Coffee Stout & Chocolate Cake | Tales From The Ale Trail - Duration: 0:36.

Drew: Wow.

That's fantastic.

Nick: This is my absolute favourite beer.

It is...so good on so many levels.

Drew: The balance in this is so good.

This makes me want to find the nearest piece of chocolate cake and...

Nick: Nose dive into it.

There's chocolate notes, there's coffee notes.

It's a milk stout so it's got that smoothness to it.

It's sweet.

Drew: Yeah well, it really drinks like a coffee.

Chris: This is the perfect lunch time beer.

Drew: Why's that?

Chris: 'Cause it doesn't leave you sleepy.

Nick: Mmm!

This is Tales From The Ale Trail.

Making It: Everarbor Brews Plant Food From Beer and Coffee Waste - Duration: 2:56.

- We were making this stuff in my driveway at my house.

Lets just say my neighbors were not

too pleased with us cause the smell during

the mixture process is pretty strong.

(upbeat rock music)

Hi I'm Derek Skapes.

- Hey I'm Andrew Mitchell.

- And I'm the owner of The Everarbor Company.

- And I'm the marketing specialist here at Everarbor.

- Everarbor is an outdoor lifestyle company,

I think it all started with me growing up

and just always going on hikes and being outside.

- I've always kinda been the kid who like

gets home from school and just runs and play outside.

I first got involved with Everarbor

coming out of school and I had

no experience so I was like,

I'm fine with low pay,

things like that and Derrick was like

oh nice he's in college and he doesn't

need a whole lot of money, we'll take him.

- It's a family business, but it's also for friends

and then anytime we have staff,

I think I just treat them like they are family or a friend.

- It's a lot of volunteer hours,

there's a lot of when people have time.

- My mommy does the window displays all the time.

- But its really just kinda a team of people

that kinda all see Everarbor come together in the future.

- We have a clothing line that we design ourselves,

we also provide services for people with landscaping,

horticulture, and arborer culture,

which is essentially just a full tree service.

We have our fertilizer line, it's called Everbrew.

- The Everbrew is the organic fertilizer we make here.

- [Andrew] It's made out of coffee and beer waste,

- Or coffee beans, whatever you call those,

grounds, coffee grounds, that's it coffee grounds.

So we're about to go pick up the two

essential ingredients for our organic fertilizer.

- And the idea stems from work that I did

with an agriculturalist who was

very pro using coffee grounds.

Derrick kind of discovered that beer grains

were essential for when he was in the Pacific Northwest.

- I did stream restoration for salmon,

and one of the biologists there,

her husband was the owner of a brewery.

He would donate all of his

brewery waste to the Department of Fish and Wildlife

and we used that to plant conifer trees

to help the stream restoration.

- So we came back kinda mixed that with the coffee grounds.

- And the results came back like,

it blew us away.

So we quickly had to get a place where

we could actually kinda spread it out

and do the mixture and be ventilated the right way,

it wasn't gonna bother neighbors and things like that.

Between that and the clothing taking off the way it did,

we just, hence the storefront now.

Our motto here is to 'step outside'.

So we wanted to make clothing for people in Cleveland.

We have snowstorms,

and then we also have really sunny hot days,

we get a little bit of everything.

- Just because we don't have any mountains

doesn't mean there's not a lot of opportunities

for us to go outside and have a good time.

- Now that Everarbor has gotten to the place that it is

and it's starting to have an impact,

it's actually quite humbling,

but it also keeps me going,

it drives me to want to do more.

You know I try to sit back and say

okay this is, this is great, this is awesome,

but then I say to myself, alright what's next?
