neuro physician is with us hello Doctor it's pleasure having an hour programs

doctor could you tell us what are the common complaints you come across from

your PD we usually see cases of headache when I go seizures and a stroke in our

ability normally stroke law is an emergency and headache by far is the

most common complaint which in neurologists yes how then how the

patients will find it headache is a serious problem headache is a very

common complaint as you all know it I mean everybody suffers it at some time

or the other yeah now when do we see a doctor

the thing is there are certain symptoms which are like red flags where the

patient has to go to the doctor one is increased sensitivity to light and

sounds which is associated with the headache any vomitings which are

associated with the hiding sensation same sensation as well as actual

vomiting so uh-huh they are also a red flag loss of consciousness associated

with this headache episode so we can take these condition as a red yes so and

sometimes the patients also develop weakness of limbs one side or the other

leg they can have weakness in the hands or the face when there is headache

simultaneously so these are sort of a markers red flags where they have to

think something is seriously wrong and then issue yes then you have severe

doctor could you tell us now what is vertigo vertigo is actually a spinning

sensation where the patient feels that he is moving around in the room or

sometimes in some cases feels the room moving about it it is also a very common

complaint we usually come across this it it most of the time is benign that is

there is no serious underlying disease the patient can have some inner ear

imbalance and that causes vertigo and in some cases it can be a sign of some

blood clot in the brain stroke so it should be a serious condition yeah as I

told you the 90% of the time it's benign the causes

will be very benign like inner ear imbalance can cause it and only

medication will suffice where as in 10 percent of the cases it can be a marker

for some serious underlying abnormality so I think when a patient has what it's

better to go to the doctor to get it check whether it is a matter of concern

or not as you said stroke and what is the difference between stroke and

vertigo no stroke and paralysis are usually confused most of the time stroke

is a condition where there is a lack of blood supply to the brain and the

patient gets some symptoms like weakness in one hand or leg in which in common

terminologies paralysis analysis you know paralysis is actual weakness of a

body part like it can be weakness of a hand or a leg or facial deviation that

is face paralysis

Causally Explained: Bipolar Disorder(What, symptoms, diagnosis,treatment) - Duration: 4:27.

Hey Guys!

Welcome to another video of our "Casually Explained" series.

In this video, we are going to talk about "Bipolar Disorder".

With the growing level of urbanization, somepsychological problems like stress, insomnia,

and bipolar disorder are also growing.

The bipolar disorder which is also known as manic depression accounts for nearly 30 percent

of the people suffering from mental illnesses.

As the name suggests, the Bipolar disorder causes 2 extreme & intense emotional stats

that occurs from time to time.

Having a bipolar disorder is similar to riding the roller coaster.

Like the ups and downs of the roller coaster ride, the person with bipolar disorder feels 2 emotional states.

The first emotional state consists of manic and hypo-manic.

In 'Maniac' state, the person feels overly excited & confident.

The person may exhibit three or more of the following behaviors:

speak in a rapid, uninterruptible manner, short attention span, racing thoughts, increased

goal-oriented activities, and agitation.

They may also exhibit behaviors characterized as impulsive or high-risk.

All of these symptoms lead to impaired ability to socialize and work.

This state can be compared with the ups during the roller coaster ride.

In this state, the person can have hallucinations too.

They may feel unstoppable, or as if they have been "chosen" and are on a "special mission".

This may lead to violent behavior and, sometimes, hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital.

The hypo-mania, as the name suggests, is similar but milder than manic.

So not all the symptoms of the manic state are shown here.

Some people who experience hypomania show increased creativity while others demonstrate poor judgment.

The hypo-maniac state is like riding the roller coaster on the flat surface.

The second emotional state is the depressive episode

Symptoms of the depressive phase include persistent feelings of sadness, irritability or anger,

loss of interest, sleeping too much or not enough, changes in appetite and weight, problems concentrating,

These are followed by hopelessness, feelings of worthlessness, and thoughts of death or suicide.

In severe cases, the individual may have delusions and hallucinations too.

Generally, the manic and depressive episode each continue alternatively for weeks or even months.

But in the mixed state, they can occur simultaneously.

For the diagnosis of bipolar disorder, the manic or hypo-manic episode is necessary.

Many affected individuals are initially misdiagnosed as having major depression in absence of the

manic or hypo-manic state.

Causes of bipolar disorder

The reason behind the brain showing such extreme mood swings is still not clear in the scientific community.

But most of the researchers believe that it is related to genes.

Some other causes behind the bipolar disorder include environmental factors, physical illness

& childhood trauma.

Moreover, the bipolar disorder can occur to anyone at any age but the teenagers are more prone to it.

Treatment of bipolar disorder-

With the help of psychotherapies like cognitive

behavioral therapy, psycho-education, interpersonal & social rhythm therapy etc, the bipolar disorder

can be treated.

But it's treatment is not easy and it takes a lot of time.

As mental illnesses still have a stigma attached to them in the society, social support is

needed along with medication and psychotherapy.

In lack of social support around 1 in 9 people affected by this disorder commits suicide.
