I'm super excited about this video because I feel like it relatable to everybody.
Have you ever had to start over?
Yes.
Hi guys I'm Whitney.
And I'm Ryann.
We both have very different starting over stories.
I got a divorce!
Whether you are moving, starting a new job, getting a divorce, getting married, having
a baby, going to college, graduating from college, getting your first job... there's
lots of ways to start over.
And we're gonna talk about that right now.
Alright so I am starting over.
A few years ago I got a divorce, and here's what I've learned.
One, is it sucks.
Its gonna hurt, it's gonna be painful, you're going to have to go through the stages of
mourning to get through it.
Obviously they say time heals all wounds, and it's true.
Two, is if you have children involved, obviously that adds a different layer, but just trust
in yourself and trust in your instincts and know that you are doing the best job you can
cause you know that you're putting your child first.
I remember that first time he went to his dad's house and my house was just, quiet,
and that was...
That sounds amazing!
That took time to get used to.
I ended up taking that time and pouring it into myself.
Three, paying bills on your own is not fun, but you can do it.
Four, community.
Through my church I got involved in a women's small group and it changed everything for
me.
The ability to be able to lean in to others and have them lean into you is life changing.
And lastly, and most importantly, counseling.
It's very important to be intentional, to get a counselor, just to have somebody to
talk to.
Healthy.
Healthy.
Get healthy.
Eat avocado every day also, now this doesn't relate to a divorce, it's just good for your
body.
So now you're on the other side of the rainbow, are you dating?
Yes, I have, thanks for asking.
Tell us about this lucky gentleman caller.
Well, he is really lucky, obviously.
That, again, is another transition and another new, crazy, weird feeling.
But so far so good.
I think when you release a little bit of control, and just let things happen, it turns out okay.
Oooh, that's the theme of this video, I'm just realizing.
Letting go of control, because you can't predict the future, all you can do is just live right
now and go for what you want to happen, and do your best.
Do your best, always.
So my story is, I was living in Los Angeles with my family of four and decided I wanted
to move back home where my family is, my sister's just blocks away.
So we packed everybody up, drove everybody over here, and had to find a house, had to
live with my mom for seven months... and had to find jobs.
Neither my husband nor I had a job when we decided to move.
So here is what I learned...
Number one, it takes a full year to feel settled in your new location.
Number two, reconnecting with friends.
I feel like I'm still failing at this right now, but I have learned that that is very
important.
You need to feel like you're a part of the community wherever you end up whether its
your hometown or a new place.
So I'm gonna start stalking you people!
Another thing, too, is I did get a job really quickly when we got here, and then just kind
of sat in it for seven months, even though I knew it wasn't the right fit for me.
I needed to do that, financially. Do that, by all means, get a job, but know that you're
not stuck.
Whatever you do right when you get there, you're not stuck.
If you're moving near family, have them watch your kids as much as possible.
I've found this to be a key to happiness.
We know that we have help, and people we trust.
Like I would trust her in almost any situation.
Maybe not like if she was running the spelling bee for my kids or something, but other than
that...
Rude.
Let's end this video with our goals moving forward.
My goals for this year are to continue settling my family here, to reach out to some friends
reconnect with them, make some new friends, maybe... and make my house a home.
What are your goals?
My goals for this year are to continue to work on myself, continue to love myself, and
lean in to my friends and family.
