Hello Friends and welcome to the DP tutorials
In this tutorial, let me give a brief Introduction To Project management and Primavera
Project management life cycle includes 5 phases initiation planning execution controlling
and closing
The main purpose of the project management is to achieve all the project goals while taking
into account of all the constraints
Typical constraints associated with the projects are time scope and budget
The main objective of the project management is to ensure that all these processes are
streamlined to make sure that the project is completed on time and within budget and
within scope.
And Then what is Primavera?
Primavera is a project management tool used for planning, organising securing and managing
the resources that are needed to complete the project on time and within budget
And then
What is this P6 used for?
Primavera software is used for managing the organisations programs and projects effectively
irrespective of the complexity of the project like you can manage one project and you can
scale this up to 200 projects.
This tool provides real time visibility of the status of the project and then further
used to report to top management for making enough business decisions., you can manage
resources effectively using this primavera tool.
Schedule: the purpose of scheduling is to manage the amount of time that a project takes
.You can get to know number of activities that you have to perform while detailing the
scope of work from start to finish of the project
Critical activities: Every schedule consists of some critical activities which will be
logically linked together to forecast the total project duration
And now let's see some terminology used in project management
Critical path: This is the longest path of the project and any delay to any activity
of the path will have a serious effect on the overall finish date of the project.
Total float : This is the amount of time that an activity can be delayed without impacting
the succeeding activity
Lag: This is the duration that an activity can be delayed or accelerated, there are two
types of lag. if you are delaying any activity it is called negative lag and if you are accelerating
any activity, then it is called as positive lag.
Positive is for benefit and negative will be impacting your project duration.
There are 4 types of relationships between two activities.
Finish to start, finish to finish, start to start and start to finish.
We will be discussing these relationships in detail while preparing a schedule.
Then next is predecessor and successor this describes the order of an activity in a sequence.
For example, there are activities a and b , if b is followed by a's completion then
be is called as the successor of activity a and a is called as predecessor of activity
b.
