ILC Country Services – Assistive Equipment, Technology and Allied Health - Duration: 2:42.

The Independent Living Centre is all about increasing people's independence, safety

and well-being.

Certainly assistive technology is our specialty and we have lots of experienced health professionals

who are able to provide information and advice around that technology.

The ILC is staffed by an amazing group of dynamic and enthusiastic people who are passionate

about providing support to people to maintain their independence.

So certainly having all three disciplines being speech pathology, occupational therapy

and physiotherapy means that were able to address people's needs in a really holistic

way to provide that service that maximises people's potential.

At the ILC we provide a range of different services for people living in the country

to access.

We have a fabulous helpline that people can ring up or email. We have a fantastic website

and an interactive national equipment database.

People living in regional areas can also access the ILC through videoconferencing and Skype.

And we also provide virtual tours of our display floor at Nedlands.

The ILC visits various regions we have our ILC country caravan that we bring to regional

areas.

We've covered the whole of Western Australia virtually from Kununurra to Esperance and

anywhere in between.

I think the hardest thing for people living in rural or remote areas accessing services

is the fact that they don't really know what's out there.

Certainly that's one of the challenges being in regional areas that access to some of those

items to physically trial and see that it's going to be the most appropriate for somebody

can be a particular challenge.

I think having the ILC come out with a van with all the equipment is making the community

more aware of what is out there.

We're bringing assistive equipment to really remote places.

And being able to service country areas with our caravan and with our country team of experts

it's a fantastic way to support people to maintain their independence safety and well-being

in their own homes.

Mainly the biggest difference is the fact that people are able to stay in their homes longer

You know This equipment is more enabling for them and gives them more independence

and that's what we want so it's great.
