Best Tips for Every Tank Heroes Ultimate - Overwatch Guide - Duration: 14:14.
sometimes in overwatch even if you don't have the best mechanics if you can land
one good old you can completely sway the fight for your team
we've already taught you how to use offensive Ultimates so today we're going
to teach you how to use the more complex but more powerful tank Ultimates my name
is Nathan and welcome to Blizzard guides
so the way this list is gonna work I'm going in no particular order I'm going
to teach you a few basic tips for how to use the tank ultimate and then I will
give you some more advanced Mechanics for using the olds so with that said
let's get right into this list at number 6 we have diva divas self-destruct is a
very interesting one so while a lot of players like to get huge team wipes with
it and while it certainly can be used for that the greater value is in the
area of denial and it's a predictable behavior surprisingly enough first of
all you want to get the notion that divas alt should be used for team wipes
out of your head while yes in certain situations there will be opportunities
for that you don't ever want to launch an old thinking wow those enemies are
grouped up maybe if I launch my bomb I can get a team wipe you should consider
how the enemies will react where they will go and if that will provide any
advantage the most obvious example is in overtime on defense using your bomb to
force enemies off the point is its strongest use similarly if you're trying
to attack on to CP you can launch your Alta force enemies off of high ground
and if they're running very set up comp this could very well win the fight for
your team so with that out of the way you should focus on three things when
denying the enemy positioning first try and deny lanes of the map not the middle
of the map you want to force the enemy to scatter in strange directions into
uncomfortable locations if you hold in the middle of the map chances are the
enemies are already out of range of the bomb or in cover so ulting in locations
that guarantee that you force a few enemies out is more valuable than trying
to force all of the enemies out since you're more likely to just get those few
enemies out which is by far more valuable secondly make sure that you
communicate to your team when you old since you're going to need to let your
team know when and where you're going to hold so that they become ready to
capitalize on the enemies that just gave up their positioning and lastly some
miscellaneous tips you can boost your old on to a wall at an angle so that it
gets stalled a bit and then suddenly pops around the corner surprising the
enemy this works best on slanted edges so the wall you're aiming at should be
angled not really perpend to you so basically you launch it it
hits the wall it stalls there for a bit but it kind of slides towards the open
area of the wall and then it continues to launch forward so on the enemies
screen it just looks like the Ziva bomb got stuck on the wall but in reality
it's actually going to pass by that wall in a couple of seconds surprising them
completely and probably guaranteeing you a few more kills than you might expect
and lastly you can also hold space when you use your alt to get a bit of extra
height out of Divac so when you alt and you press space you can use that extra
jump to get onto high ground as Baby diva should you need to escape any
enemies on the ground and number 5 we're taking a look at Winston's primal rage
primal rage is by far one of the most frustrating holds in the game which is
why this section is going to be the longest I feel like a lot of players
really need to understand this olt to get the most value out of it but it can
be devastating a lot of players just don't really understand it and
rightfully so I mean the old definitely lacks direction and it can be very
confusing combining multi-dimensional moving mechanics as well as requiring
just top tier game sense well it might seem like a very useless old useless and
overwatch is a subjective term one of the most difficult aspects of his
ultimate is just the knowledge of one and where to use the alt firstly you
should just never alt at high HP unless you absolutely need to use it to reset
jump or stall or something like that obviously while it does come down to
your game sense and intuition there are just some objectively correct times to
halt as Winston including point contention increasing uptime in the team
fight or just knocking enemies off a point or ledge one quick thing if you
put your bubble down before you old it will be useful to soak up some damage
since you won't have it for the duration of your own so another question becomes
when too old if you absolutely need to hold the capture point or contest for
overtime you should definitely 100% use primal rage to increase the percentage
or stall for your teammates to return to the point and get picks when you do
stall focus on using either the cart as cover or if you're on to CP or something
like that flick upwards so that you can avoid any damage on point and stay in
the air for a few seconds and use this short cooldown of your jump pack to only
take damage for the short moments that you actually are on point don't do that
in overtime though since you actually might be in the air too long so kind of
short hop basically don't angle straight upwards but kind of angle at maybe a 30
degree angle or so also if you rush into to point you can leap and then old and
then leap again since primal rage will reset your jump cooldown now when you're
trying to contest and disrupt the enemy there are a few things to keep in mind
firstly you want to deny a high ground with primal rage since you can quickly
get to the high ground push the enemy off and then return to the objective you
have that really short jump pet cooldown time so really utilize it when you can
secondly you also want to push enemies away from your allies should an
important teammate need it so something like your honour or maybe your soldier
that's doing a ton of damage and lastly you can just corner an enemy into the
corner and beat them senseless and set corners suppressing them with no escape
Winston's bolt is very weird also mechanically you want to jump hit the
ground so that they take the slash damage and then push them away to jump
towards them and hit them with the slash damage and rinse and repeat basically
you just want to chain that jump damage with your punch for extra damage and it
allows you to also reposition enemies that should you get really good at it
that's a bit a more of an advanced technique but you can get it down if you
practice it a lot and the last tip I can provide you is if you get pushed off the
ledge you can actually use primal rage to reset your jump pack cooldown time to
get back on to the ground but I would recommend against doing this if you
don't have that good of a reflex time just because if you do attempt to do
this there is that short second that you do have to wait when you use your alt
and you might just waste your primal rage so be very careful with that but
that is something to consider and keep in mind because it is a possibility
at number four the next tank that we're looking at is Orissa Arisa Seoul is
relatively straightforward so this should be a shorter one than some of the
other alts really the main tip is that you use it during the mid fight and not
on engagement or cleanup this old is essentially a nano boost without the
damage reduction but for your whole team if you're Gangi needs extra damage or
your Rhine is trying to secure some more kills the supercharged will aid you in
just that the old is really useful in tandem with Mercy's Phalke since the
power boost actually does stack providing you with 1.8 times damage
allowing you to practically delete the enemy from existence furthermore this
also does stack with Nana boost so Nana plus charger or Val Chris charger are
really good options Nana charger does do 2 times the damage
but that extra point 2 times isn't really going to do much also try and use
your old around corners hiding it from the enemy but not from your team since
it actually does need to maintain line-of-sight also put a shield in front
of the charger since the enemy will usually try and burst it down quickly
which actually does lead me to my next point which is the fact that you can
sometimes use it as a distraction if you need to get some flankers off your
healers you can pull them off place the supercharger and usually it will
distract them long enough for you or someone else to kill them however I
really don't recommend doing this too often since it could just end up in you
losing your supercharger in addition to not providing a good enough distraction
just like using Winston Sol to return to the ground after you've been pushed off
you need to be very careful and you need to have good game sense to use it in
this manner and number 3 we're looking at Road hogs whole hog while Road hogs
ultimate ability does a ton of damage it is actually just best served as a strong
crowd control tool the knock-back and spread of his weapon make it difficult
to confirm kills or do focus first damage unless the enemy's caught in a
trap grab or corner using it to knock back lethal targets from your teammates
is where its true potential lies so if again G is dragon blading you can use
whole hog to force him to deflect or be pushed away saving valuable seconds off
is very powerful old you can also use it to push a
Reinhardt that just shattered your team since that will not allow him to get
proper follow up don't be afraid to use it as a solo kill with a support or a
tank since if your plank hog correctly your take a breather will allow you to
get your charge very quickly full hog is just best used in the mid fight I would
stray away using it in the end of the fight or on engagement since its value
isn't really great during cleanup and using it
at the beginning of the fight only stalls the enemy for a few seconds since
you won't really guarantee any kills because of the knock back and spread
you'll just end up pushing the enemy away from the choke and you'll just kind
of not do very much and an important tip you can actually cancel your hook
animation for your healing animation with whole hog which is extremely useful
firstly if you chain hook and then immediately halt before the chain
animation completes you can either insta kill a squishy or launch a tank a huge
distance away negating some protection that the enemy team might have from that
said tank and similarly you can heal up and cancel whole hog catching any
enemies expecting the full duration of healing off-guard
those two uses are a little bit more niche but once you get that down it's
actually extremely powerful in that respect and number two we're taking a
look at Reinhardt's earth shatter right hurts ultimate is very very useful for
quickly confirming kills and negating frontline value or crowd controlling
lethal holds from the enemy however with that said it can be difficult to pull
off sometimes because of the height range nerf on earth shatter it has
causes a strange consistency on payloads as you might have discovered from what
it seems you can't shatter from the ground onto the named Bonnie or dorado
payloads but you can't shatter people on route 66 and Hollywood payloads so keep
that in mind however if you are on top of the payload you could shatter people
that are on the ground or on the payload as if it weren't there so with that out
of the way let's get right into how to get a successful earth shatter off
firstly you want to break any shields that the enemy has set up before holding
ensuring that any possible shields that the enemy might have are on cooldown and
out of the way so make sure that you burst a reese's shield down quickly or
Winston's bubble down so that way that you're not gonna get it blocked also
saria's bubbles are really annoying because they do actually block any
enemies that are behind it since Reinhardt's or the shredder acts as a
wave that gets blocked by shields or map geometry so make sure that the Zarya
doesn't have her personal or her ally bubble because that actually does get in
the way at times secondly make sure that you guarantee at least one to two
enemies in it but don't worry about getting five plus enemies or something
like that when did two confirmed kills is far more
valuable than a missed earth shatter don't jump when you shatter and also you
can just abate enemies by putting your shield up and then immediately
shattering throwing them off-guard also a quick tip for Ryne v ryan shadow
battles if the enemy Ryan fire strikes you can actually get your shadow off if
you use your alt right as that Ryan fire strikes since you
can't cancel the animation of a fire strike now if you do actually land the
earth shudder you might notice that the enemies on the ground are sometimes too
far apart to fire strike more than just one you can actually fix this however by
crouching while you fire strike doing this will lower the spot where fire
strike is thrown and thus allowing you to actually line up fire strikes that
will pass through more than one enemy which reminds me just to mention always
fire strike when you shatter and then try and line up your swings to hit
multiple targets at once you always want a fire strike since that does more
damage then your hammer does and it does it in a burst so if you shatter a tracer
that fire strike will insta kill the tracer now if you won't be able to kill
all the targets due to either too much healing or something of that sort
just try and pin the most valuable targets so something like a mercy or
Holton Genji is best which I should mention you can actually use earth
chatter to shut down bolting soldiers Ganges Winston's etc basically any
transformation also you can shut down with your earth shatter which chart is
generally more quickly than those type of olds lastly just remember that the
point of earth shatter isn't to get huge team wipes that's the saria's job earth
shatter is just more designed to crowd control and to guarantee a couple picks
in the fight while also negating the enemies front line or backline and
lastly at number one za Ria's graviton surge this is by far the most powerful
tank bolt it doesn't get that much value by itself but if you combo with other
alts it is really powerful there are three main components to getting a
successful Zarya grab firstly charging it secondly executing it and thirdly
following up so firstly charging sorry you can't really charge up grab quickly
when you have low charges so focus aren't trying to get high charge before
you really concern yourself with getting a grab off you need to focus on doing
damage to tanks and also right-clicking balled up groups of enemies since the
damage will permeate through all the enemies providing significantly more
charge than focusing one enemy with laser divas and Road hogs are the best
enemy tanks to feed off of since they will quickly give you 40 to 50% graph if
they continually get healed and the next step is execution firstly you just kind
of want to make sure that there are no divas present because they will eat your
grab if you're not careful next when you press cute jumping from high ground or
flanking and catching the enemy by surprise are your best bets aim directly
for the floor or a wall and try to avoid lobbing it at huge distances since you
do actually risk the enemy scan and missing all the enemies primarily
you just want to try and make sure that you get those key targets in the grab
but don't worry about getting huge six-man grabs
it's more important just like Reinhardt's earth shadow to get the more
important and guaranteed picks rather than trying to get huge grabs and lastly
the follow-up you want to try and get another DPS old combo'd with it or hogs
old as well now in the event that you can't do that if you're high charge or
you have a Reinhardt or Devo with you you can use them Reinhardt and diva can
both hit multiple targets at once and with your right-click and laser you can
do a ton of extra damage communication is really important so don't just grab
by yourself and some miscellaneous tips saria's grab is a projectile so Ganges
deflect can also bounce it back so you just really need to be very mindful of
that also you really want to figure out what supports the enemy has or if the
Winston has primal rage since when you do grab you need to consider that the
Winston will primal rage and the support will use their defensive Ultimates so if
you can actually kill them before you grab you'll be able to guarantee more
kills more quickly and you'll be in a much better spot for your graph allowing
you to get more kills anyway I hope these tips helped you guys out I hope
that made sense it let me know if I missed any advanced techniques that
you'd like to let other players know in the comments down below and also comment
down below which guide you'd like to see next I still have yet to do the defense

Complete Guide OpenHAB 2 Backup And Restore : MAC 2018 - Duration: 13:25.
Hey guys Matt here from MKSmartHouse.com and in this video I am going to show you the complete
way to backup your openhab server using a mac.
[Intro]
Imagine that one day you open up your openHAB app on your phone and there is nothing there,
you then quickly go to your computer and try to ssh into the server but it just keeps saying
"Connection refused".
At this point all is lost, all your hard work, all the time you put in, simply gone.
But, lucky for you that was just an imagination and it can all be simply avoided by following
this guide.
In this complete guide I will cover exactly how to backup your openhab server.
The way this backup will work is there will be an external flash drive plugged into the
raspberry pi and every day the raspberry pi will backup the openhab configuration and
user data files to the flash drive.
Now, this does solve a majority of the backup problem but what about the rest of the pi
or other non openhab related items.
Well, since we don't change much non openhab items on the raspberry pi after it is initially
set up, we will do a manually backup of the SD card onto the flash drive through the computer.
More on that later, let's just get started!
The items needed to complete this guide are the following: Number one, is a fully setup
any model of raspberry pi running openhab, I am using a raspberry pi 3 in a clear enclosure
that has a fan which generates a lot of air flow to the raspberry pi, I also installed
heatsinks on the pi for even more cooling.
I did this much cooling because I never want to run the risk of the pi overheating and
failing.
If you want a kit to protect your pi you can find it at mksmarthouse.com/shop.
If your pi is not setup check out my home automation server setup guide.
Number two is a computer running MAC OS or OS X, if you have a windows computer then
check out my guide where I do this same guide except using a windows computer.
Number three, is an SD card reader of some kind that can read the type of SD card you
have in your pi, I only need a micro SD card reader but this one reads both sizes of sd
cards.
Lastly, number four you need a flash drive that is the same size as the sd card in your
pi my sd card is 32gb so I bought a 32gb flash drive.
The links to all the parts and guides mentioned are in the video description.
Speaking of links in the description, follow @mksmarthouse on twitter, instagram and snapchat
because those are the place where I give sneak peaks on when videos are releasing and also
where I ask for your input on topics and future videos.
1.
The first thing we have to do is plug the flash drive into the computer.
2.
Next go to spotlight, type in disk utility and press enter.
3.
In the left column click on your flash drive.
The next part we are about to do will erase everything on the flash drive so make sure
you do not have anything important on it.
4.
Then press the erase button.
In the name box type in OHBACKUP and in the format select ExFat.
Click erase.
5.
Next we need to head over to the written version of this guide on my website, link is in the
description.
6.
Here we need to download the OHBackup_script.
This is the script that we setup to automatically backup openhab every day at 12am and it will
also delete backups that over 30 days old in order to not fill up the flash drive completely.
7.
So go over to your downloads folder, double click on the zip file and then drag the script
to the flash drive we will use for backing up.
Once that is copied over eject the flash drive from your computer.
8.
Grab the flash drive from your computer and plug it into the raspberry pi.
9.
Before we get any further I just wanted to show you the basic ui of this server to demonstrate
that this pi is fully configured and has a sitemap with items in it in other words it
has a data on it.
I have already done this process to my main openhab server which is why I will be using
this pi.
10.
Now open up terminal on your mac and ssh into the pi.
I recommend having the written version of this guide open so that way you can just copy
and paste the commands I am about to show you.
11.
The first thing we have to do is install support for exfat so type in sudo apt-get install
exfat-fuse and press enter.
You may need to type in your password and press enter.
11.1.
It will then ask if you want to confirm type y and press enter.
11.2.
Next enter super user so type in sudo su and press enter.
12.
Next we have to make a directory to mount the flash drive to, so type in mkdir /mnt/OHBackupDrive
and press enter.
13.
Now we have to find out what the UUID or id number of our flash drive is in order to mount
it to the directory so type in lsblk -o UUID,NAME,FSTYPE,SIZE,MOUNTPOINT,LABEL,MODEL and press enter.
14.
As you can see this is the 32gb flash drive I inserted into the pi and here is its UUID,
this is important so write it down somewhere.
15.
In order to mount the flash drive to the directory we need to modify the fstab so type in nano
/etc/fstab and press enter.
16.
Now at the bottom of the file type in UUID=C73C-F2E6 /mnt/OHBackupDrive auto defaults,auto,umask=000,users,rw
0 0 and press enter.
17.
Replace the UUID with the UUID of your flash drive.
18.
Once you changed the UUID press control x then y and enter to save.
19.
Now to execute the mounting procedure instead of rebooting type in mount -a and press enter.
20.
To confirm that it mounted to the directory type in df -k /mnt/OHBackupDrive and press
enter, you should see how much of the folder is used and some other information.
21.
Ok, now we are done with super user so type in exit and press enter.
22.
Next up is to copy the script from the flash drive to the bin folder do this by typing
in sudo cp /mnt/OHBackupDrive/OHBackup_script /bin and press enter.
23.
Next we need to give the script permission to execute, so type in sudo chmod u+x /bin/OHBackup_script
and press enter.
24.
To execute the script type in sudo /bin/OHBackup_script and press enter.
25.
You should see it say Openhab backup script and Success!
Backup made.
26.
Now, let's confirm that it did save so type in cd /mnt/OHBackupDrive and press enter then
type in ls and press enter.
You should see a zip file.
Great!
OpenHAB was successfully backed up.
27.
Now let's make this backup process happen automatically everyday at 12 am.
28.
Type in sudo crontab -e and press enter.
It might ask you which editor to use, type in 2 to use nano and press enter.
29.
In the bottom of the file type in 0 0 * * * /bin/OHBackup_script what this does is execute the backup script
everyday at 12 am.
30.
Now press control x then y and enter to save.
31.
Like I mentioned in the beginning the script only backs up openhab stuff like your items,
things, sitemaps, configuration files etc, so stuff like the the mqtt server settings
will not be backed up, those things we need to backup manually.
I recommend backing up manually before/after every time you make a change to the raspberry
pi that is not directly integrated with openhab or when you make an openhab software update.
32.
In order to backup manually we need to first shut down the pi so type in sudo halt and
press enter.
33.
Once the pi is fully shut down and the lights are not blinking, unplug the power cable,
sd card and flash drive.
34.
Then plug the sd card and flash drive into the computer.
35.
Next open up applepibaker, if you dont know what apple pi baker is then go check out my
automation server setup guide mac version.
36.
Anyway type in your admin password for your computer and press ok.
37.
In the pi crust section select your sd card and then click create backup.
38.
It will then ask what to name it also where to save, name it what you want and choose
your desktop as the location and click ok. 39.
Once it finished open up finder and select your flash drive.
Right click, create a new folder, and name it SDCardBackups.
40.
Now, right click on the img file and click compress.
41.
Once it finished compressing drag the zip file from your desktop to the SDCardBackups
folder.
42.
Once it copies over you are completely done backing up your automation server.
43.You can now eject the flash drive as well as the sd card and plug them back into the
pi. 44.
Once they are plugged in you can connect power again.
45.
Congratulations, you are now safe from potential failures and part of the small percentage
of people that actually backup their OpenHAB server.
Help spread awareness of backing up openhab by sharing this video everywhere you possibly
can and save people from the headache of a failed server with no backup.
To demonstrate a change made after a manual backup I am going to make a modification to
the sitemap file.
As you can see the sitemap is changed.
Now for demonstration purposes I am going to issue a OpenHAB Runtime backup with the
command sudo /bin/OHBackup_script normally your backup would occur automatically at 12am
but for the purposes of this video I am going to back it up now.
You can also use this command if you are about to do any modifications to the configuration
files and want something to fall back on just in case you mess up.
For demonstration purposes I am going to simulate a raspberry pi failure that can happen to
anyone and results in a complete data loss.
[Hits raspberry pi with the hammer]
Now lets go over how to restore your openhab server if it did go through a failure.
1.
You would first plug both a new sd card either the same size or bigger than the original
and the OHBackup flash drive into the computer.
2.
Then open finder to your SDCardBackups folder and drag the backup you want to use to your
desktop.
3.
Once it finishes copying double click on the zip file to expand it into a proper img file.
4.
Then open up apple pi baker, type in your admin password and press ok.
5.
Now click on your sd card in the Pi-Crust Section.
In the Pi-Ingredients section click on the 3 dots.
It will bring up a mini finder, navigate to your desktop and click on the img file we
previously expanded from the zip file.
6.
Then click restore backup.
Once it is formatted eject the flash drive and unplug both the sd card and flash drive.
Plug both items items into the pi and plug in the power cable.
7.
Once the pi boots up ssh into it through terminal.
8.
The first thing we have to do is get into the backup drive and see which zip file we
want to restore to so type in cd /mnt/OHBackupDrive and press enter.
9.
To see what's inside type in ls and enter.
I am going to backup to the latest zip file which is this one.
10.
Next we need to stop openhab so type in sudo systemctl stop openhab2.service and press
enter.
11.
Now we are going to restore openhab so type in
sudo $OPENHAB_RUNTIME/bin/restore /mnt/OHBackupDrive/INSERTBACKUPNAME.zip before you hit enter replace INSERTBACKUPNAME
with the name of your backup and press enter.
12.
It will ask you to confirm, press y and enter.
13.
Finally, start up openhab again by typing in sudo systemctl start openhab2.service and
press enter.
14.
Your openhab server should be fully restored.
If I open up the basic UI you can see all the data is still there including the recently
made modification to the sitemap.
Finally, that concludes this complete guide to backing up and restoring your openhab server.
In the description you will find links to all the parts and devices used in the video
as well as a link to mksmarthouse.com/shop where I have a wide range of smart home kits
that you can put together such as blinds, led strips, sprinkler system and door sensors.
Alright thank you for watching and If you have any questions leave them in the comments
section below or head over to mksmarthouse.com/forum.
Good Bye!

13 Essential Bucket List Trips to Make Before 30 | World Travel Guide - Duration: 14:48.
You've just finished school.
You want to travel the world.
But you don't have that much money.
You're young. You're broke.
But guess what? You're rich
with the most valuable resource of all: time.
However, once you turn thirty, your time is sucked up by
work and family commitments, and most people put off
big travel dreams until retirement,
by which time they are too old to enjoy the best things about travel.
It's a sad reality. I recently turned thirty,
and I can vouch..you do start to slow down;
you don't have as much energy,
and I realize there're certain trips you should take before you turn thirty.
Whether you're fresh out of school, in the depths of a quarter life crisis,
or like me believe that age is just a number,
this video will inspire you to get out and see the world while you still can.
And If you haven't already, hit that subscribe button.
Turn on notifications. Give this video a big thumbs-up,
and share it with your travel buddies if you haven't already.
These are thirteen trips you need to take before you turn thirty.
Let's do it. Let's go.
First up: backpacking through Europe with your best friends.
I know it's a little bit cliche, but trust us,
this really is an incredible experience.
We did it. I still remember my first backpacking trip with my best friends from high school.
It is a great experience for first-time travelers
because it's relatively easy to get around.
There's a lot of diversity in a small area,
and most passports have visa-free travel.
Most importantly, it's a great trip to take with your best friends
because as you get older, unfortunately life happens....
People get busy. Priorities come up,
and it gets harder and harder to dedicate time to go travel with friends.
But pretty much everyone dreams of going to Europe.
So, it's the perfect trip to take after graduation
before work, school, and life take everyone in different directions.
Travel by train using a Eurail Pass.
Make new friends in hostels, and learn to say"cheers" in as many
languages as your liver can handle. Trust me.
This will be a trip you're going to remember for decades to come.
In your twenties, you don't have a lot of cash,
but you do have a lot of time.
That's why it's important to take a big trip before you're thirty.
Sure. Europeans get to enjoy month- long holidays
throughout their entire career.
But in the United States, once you start working,
you're going to get two weeks of vacation time per year maximum for the rest of your working life.
That's why you should consider taking a month or two to travel before you really get focused on your career.
If you have student loans, we're not suggesting that you default on your creditors
and flee the country, never to return again.
But we are suggesting that you put this moment into perspective.
You might not know exactly what you want to do with your life,
but you're also freer than you'll ever be again.
In the U.K and Australia, it's quite common to take a "gap year,"
a year between school and life to
work and travel abroad.
If you want more information about how much it costs to travel the world for a full year,
click on this card to see the full video.
A gap year is not an option for most people.
But don't worry. A big trip does not have to take a full year or cost a lot of money.
The key to longterm travel on a budget is picking a part of the world
where you can get by on $25 to $50 a day-
places like Southeast Asia, Latin America, and
the cheapest country of all, India, where you can easily
get by on $1000 a month.
Do the big trip now because nobody on
a death bed ever wishes he had spent more time in the office.
But what if you can't convince your friends to come with you?
Then it's time for a solo trip.
There are few times in your life when no one is depending on you.....
when you don't have a job, a mortgage, and a family
all looking at you to pay the bills.
That's why of all these experiences on this list, traveling alone is
one of the most important ones to do in your twenties,
unless you get divorced and start trying to figure out the meaning of life again
and then go on an Eat Pray Love mission for a year,
because that could happen, too.
That definitely happens. No judgment there.
Traveling solo takes you away from the expectation of society,
a family, and even of your friends.
It allows you to discover who you are and what you truly like.
And most importantly, it teaches you to be comfortable being alone.
Southeast Asia is the ideal place for a solo trip.
It's cheap; there's plenty of other travelers around,
and sipping a beer on the Mekon River is the perfect way to figure out
what it is you want to do with your life
when it's time to settle down and get a real j-o-b.
Whoa....whoa...whoa.
Who said anything about getting a "real job" just yet?
Between school and a career there are plenty of opportunities
to work temporary jobs that allow you to continue to travel.
If you want to learn more about those, click on the card up there.
You could sail around the Mediterreanian(??) on a private yacht
and dine on fresh scallops.....
the leftover scallops from the yacht owner,
but nobody's counting.
You could teach English in Japan
or tend bar in a beach front cabana in Rio de Janeiro.
Rather than living to work, work to live, and see where it takes you.
For example, after I studied abroad in New Zealand,
I worked a season in Queenstown, basically doing odds and ends,
anything to pay the rent and buy my snowboard lift passes.
New Zealand and Australia are a great location for the working holiday visa.
There's more information about that in a video
that we're going to shoot soon.
So subscribe and turn on notifications, if you haven't already.
If you don't have a lot of savings and aren't ready for a 9 to 5,
consider a working holiday visa.
Working holiday visas are only valid for people under thirty years old.
So what are you waiting for?
Plus if you're worried about taking time off to travel
and how it's going to look on your resume`
just remember that most employers value life experience.
And going traveling gives you a ton of life experience.
At some point everyone should travel like a free spirit.....
no plans, no expectations, and not a lot of money to make it happen.
Your twenties is a time to read Thoreau and Kerouac.
To scrape together your meager savings,
pack your life into a backpack and
hit the road with thumb out-stretched.
Use Couchsurfing.org to find free places to stay
Woof.org to find farms where you can trade a day's labour for room and board,
and hitch hike from A to B.
If you travel like this, you really don't need much money at all.
This trip is important because it teaches you how to trust-
to trust yourself, to find a way forward,
to trust strangers to help you when you're in need,
and to trust life to give you what you need when you let go of your expectations.
Embrace serendipity. Say "yes" to life,
and enjoy the journey because if the destination
is marriage and a family, the time to take this journey is right now.
Good luck convincing your significant other to go hitch hiking and couch surfing.
But if you do find someone who's down for that,
you've got a keeper.
Unfortunately, when you hit thirty,
one of the first things to go is your energy..
that unbridled passion to just do stuff all the time.
Trust me.. I've just turned thirty, and all I want to do is just sit on the couch
in my pajamas, watch Netflix, and take baths with epsom salt.
That is why you should travel to a festival in your twenties.
The wilder, the better....
and ideally one that lasts for about a week.
Raise steins in October Fest in Munich.
Run with the bulls in Pamplona. Oh my god.
Or travel to the craziest carnival on your continent.
It could be Rio; could be New Orleans;
or it could be Venice, Italy.
Of course, music festivals count, too..
Glastonbury in the U.K., Coachella in California,
or if you're really going for it...Burning Man.
Just remember: be safe; stay hydrated,
and wear sunscreen, folks.
You're not going to be twenty forever.
Next up: travel for love.
Travel is one of the best ways to meet a potential lover.
If you meet on the road, chances are
you already have something in common....
that you like to travel.
Whether you believe in fate or not,
you'll never know what a chance encounter could be
unless you go for it.
Our parents met on a train in the 1970s (actually 1980) in Switzerland.
And if my mom hadn't asked my dad to see his map,
chances are we wouldn't be here.
So go visit that beautiful foreign exchange student you met in college,
and next time a handsome guy asks you if you want to go on an adventure,
say yes.
And if you're already in a relationship,
travel can be a great way
to find out how compatible you really are,
especially when things don't go smoothly.

to travel better as a couple, click that card.
Beyond traveling for who you love,
travel for what you love on a dirtbag trip.
A dirtbag trip is when you use all of your time and money
to pursue one of your favorite hobbies,
usually at the price of comfort.
The term originated with hardcore rock climbers who would camp out
in Yosemite Valley in California to climb
the face of El Capitan for months at a time.
Whether you rock climb, surf, snowboard, or scuba dive,
it's all about trying to spend time
doing what you love.
As you grow older, work and family take up more of your time,
and hobbies become vital for your well being.
So make them priorities now.
Your future self will be happier and healthier for it.
No matter what your preferred hobby,
everyone should spend some time backpacking in nature.
And everyone should use their own two feet
to climb a mountain, both metaphorically and literally.
Right now, you are in peak physical condition.
Climbing a mountain is not going to get an easier.
So find your nearest mountain and climb it.
Once you have the basic gear, camping is extremely cheap,
and it's a great way to travel and save money for bigger adventures
abroad, whether that's climbing Macchu Pichu,
Mount Kilimanjaro, or seeing the glaciers of Patagonia.
Speaking of glaciers, you should visit them while you can.
Warming waters are bleaching the Great Barrier Reef,
rising tides are swallowing Venice,
and glaciers are melting everywhere.
Who knows what these places will look like in ten years?
Visit them now.
See the impacts of climate change for yourself,
and learn what you can do to make a positive difference.
Share your firsthand experience with skeptical friends
and family members back home, and hopefully we can
all find the collective will to do something
and preserve these places so that our own children
can visit them in their twenties, as well.
Another essential experience is cultural immersion.
Travel almost always gives you perspective
because it shows you how other cultures do things.
But often times we're so eager to see
as much as we can that we move from place, to place,
to place, frantically snapping photos,
and in the end, you see nothing.
At least once in your twenties, stick around a place
long enough to get some cultural immersion.
The best way to immerse yourself is through language.
Use this opportunity to brush up on your high school Spanish
in Antigua, Guatemala, or learn French in Paris
or dive in the deep end and learn Mandarin in rural China.
If you're not a language person, don't worry.
Maybe just do a home stay or take a cooking course.
Or just stay around long enough to feel like a local,
whether it's a two week intensive course or two years
with the Peace Corps, taking the time to lose yourself in another
culture is very much worth it.
Still with us? Good.
We've discussed a lot of trips so far,
and chances are that even the most footloose traveler
can't check them all off before thirty.
As you approach the big 3-0,
you tend to learn how to prioritize things in your life.
Let's talk about your bucket list.
The bucket list is a list of things that you want to do before you kick the bucket...
that is before you die.
When you're twenty, you feel like you're invincible,
but the sad truth is that you are not.
Between Marko and me,
we've had nearly a dozen friends pass away
before they turned thirty.
We are not here forever.
It sounds morbid, but accepting that life
is going to come to an end really helps you prioritize
how you spend your time and your money.
The key is: dream like you'll live forever
and live like you'll die tomorrow.
Look at the ideas we've just given you.
Add in a couple of your own,
and ask yourself.....what is the one trip
that you really want to do before you die?
It can be big or it can be small,
but pick the dream that's closet to your heart,
and promise yourself you'll do whatever
it takes to make it happen
before you turn thirty.
Because if you tell yourself you'll do it when you retire,
it may never happen.
We're now at the end of our list.
Let's talk about the end of your twenties
and the importance of meaningful travel.
When you're young, it's natural to see travel as a
check list of countries to do and even as a way
of seeking status among your friends.
Once you've partied in Europe,
taken selfies in Rio
and collected a dozen passport stamps,
you might feel an odd emptiness.....
a feeling that it's not the world that is to be
conquered, but the self.
Enter the spiritual journey
using travel as a tool for personal growth,
whether it's a meditation retreat in Thailand,
volunteering at an orphanage in India,
or the most literal spiritual journey of all,
walking the pilgrimage of Camino de Santiago
in Northern Spain.
The spiritual journey is one that never ends,
and it helps you articulate that feeling
that you had the first time you traveled....
this idea of the non duality of nature
that despite our superficial cultural differences,
underneath we are all one.
Whoa... Far out.
You and I, the same thing.
