Welcome to New York City I'm Jen and I will be your local guide sharing the top 30
things to do. This goes beyond your stereotypical list. There will not be any
Empire State Building on this list but instead this is about the experiences.
This is what to do, what to eat, drink, where to stay and when to visit.
Keep watching and if you enjoy this video don't forget to give it a thumbs
up, click the subscribe button and if you please share it with your friends.
In a place nicknamed the Big Apple we have to start with food, but did you know
quick fun fact that it is called a big apple not because of apples - it has
nothing to do with food - but because of a 1920s racing column called "Around the
Big Apple" So number one we have the bagel in New York City we are known for
the bagel there's actually something in the water that makes our bagels super
unique and you can also try a rainbow bagel at the bagel shop in Brooklyn
Williamsburg I highly recommend it you can try it with eggs for a salty sweet
combo or with a smear of confetti cream cheese which is super fun and colorful
highly recommended it!
Number two have a really good slice of pizza. There are so many amazing pizza
places that are definitely worth checking out. In Brooklyn Heights there
is a fun rivalry between Grimaldi's and also Juliana's. I recommend Juliana's
which has a shorter line, just FYI, but if you're on a budget there are also
some amazing $1 slices that you have to check out and go check out my challenge
video for more. ..."It's a little cold because I was talking for too long..."
Number three have a burger! Have a burger at a place like Shake Shack, which is a
super classic or The Burger Joint, which is like a speakeasy hidden inside a
hotel. Number four have a pastrami sandwich you don't know how good this is
until you try it!
Head downtown to Katz's to have this pastrami sandwich which is a little bit
pricey but so worth it and whatever you do don't lose your ticket!
Number five food markets if you tried every single New York City restaurant
one per day it would take you about 20 years to try all of them and that's not
even including new restaurants popping up, so try a few different restaurants
and a few different culinary styles all in one at a food market. Some of my
favorite places are Smorgasburg which is especially during the summer and Chelsea
Market open all year round which has some of the best tacos!
Number six have a decadent dessert. New York City had some of the best, biggest,
most delicious desserts so while you're here you have to try something like this
ice cream here at the Brooklyn ice cream factory in Brooklyn Heights.
Number seven enjoy brunch. Come to a classy Instagramable spot like the
River Cafe behind me with beautiful views of the Brooklyn Bridge and
Manhattan skyline or go to a diner dive and have a milkshake worth sharing
that's so big but so fun and colorful at a place like Big Daddy's or Blacktap.
Number eight have a "Cawfee" (coffee). No not Starbucks I'm talking about a cute
coffee shop complete with cats, board games, records
you name it New York is known for some really great coffee and coffee shops.
Number nine take the subway or take a taxi. The number one trick to figure out
whether a taxi is taken or not is seeing if the light on top with the numbers is
actually lit up. If it is lit up that means that it is free and available, if
not that means that it is taken. If you want to learn more about the subway
check out my other video all about the subway. Number ten take a helicopter ride.
I've actually taking a helicopter ride here in New York City, in LA, in the Czech
Republic and Australia and my absolute favorite experience is here in New York
because of all the tall skyscrapers you get an amazing perspective of the whole
city from the air!
Number 11 take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry. The Staten Island Ferry is
the best free ride views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of
Liberty so you don't have to spend a full day visiting the Statue of Liberty
especially if you have a limited amount of time here watch my video for more of
where to stand and where to catch it.
Number 12 visit another island head to the family-friendly Governor's Island.
Or with one Metro swipe head in a red tram over to Roosevelt Island. Number
13 go to Brooklyn! If you have time you must venture
outside of Manhattan to other boroughs like Brooklyn my favorite spot is right
here in Brooklyn Heights where you can have appreciation for this wonder by
walking across it!
Number fourteen visit a neighborhood! Travel around the world within New York
City by visiting another neighborhood like Little India, Koreatown, Chinatown or
the new Little Italy along Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.
Number 15 go to the top of a tall building. The top three observatory decks
here in NYC that you have to pay about $30 for with an amazing view
are Top of the Rock, One World Trade Center (behind me) and the Empire State
Building. My top recommendation is to go to the top of the rock!
The Empire State Building in your view for better views of the bridges head to
the One World Trade Center, which is further downtown and has better downtown view.
67 stories up we are on the Top of the Rock. I recommend definitely come here
for sunset but come two hours ahead so that you make sure you get the right
time slot! Number 16 go to touristy spots like Times Square even though some locals
might warn you against it it is crowded for a reason
is truly one-of-a-kind place and I remember when I first came to Times Square
looking all around me it is so bright there are so many lights that you really
have to check it out. Even if it's a quick visit you need to come to Times
Square just to see it at least once!
number 17 go to a museum New York City has over a hundred museums. I recommend
you travel uptown to the Museum Mile, a collection of ten museums including the
Cooper-Hewitt, the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
If you have a short period of time come visit my favorite Museum: the
Metropolitan Museum of Art also known as "The Met." It has a really great Egyptian
wing including the temple of Dendur, which was fully relocated and saved from
the floods of the Nile, also they have seasonal costume exhibits at the costume
Institute
number 18 Go on an adventure! If you enjoy rock climbing you will love coming
here under the Manhattan Bridge and you can climb and Boulder right here
outdoors or on the actual rocks that make up Central Park. Number 19
go to a park! Even though it is called the concrete jungle there are so many wonderful parks
here. You can enjoy a beautiful day in Central Park or even the High Line which
is an elevated railroad tracks-turned park or even a park near you
number 20 Watch the sunset or if you're an early riser watch the sunrise! Two of
my favorite places for watching the sunset are here in Brooklyn Heights
overlooking the pylons or in Gantry Plaza in Queens.
Number 21 get lost in a book. If you love books you'll love the strand bookstore or
the Morgan library or the New York Public Library, right next to Bryant Park.
Number 22 See a show! Known for some of the best shows in the world you can
see revivals and classics on Broadway and for more affordable shows go to off-
Broadway or off off Broadway, the more offs
the more affordable it is!
Number 23 see a movie differently! Enjoy a movie under the stars in a New
York City Park like Bryant park or have a dine-in theater experience at a
retro-style theater like Nighthawk.
Number 24 Wear whatever you want! Most New Yorkers do wear black but you can
wear whatever you want even if you wear a rainbow colorful tutu, New
Yorkers wouldn't give you a second glance!
Number 25 have a night out on the town! It is called the city that never sleeps for a
reason. Enjoy classy cocktails at a hidden
speakeasy or dive bars that have pool, live jazz and ping pong, like one of my
favorites Fat Cat. Number 26 go shopping or at least window shopping
head uptown to 5th Avenue for some of these prettiest windows or go vintage
shopping in Brooklyn. Head to Soho for some more fun shopping and cobblestone
streets. Also check out my video about Soho for more! Number 27 follow in
famous footsteps there are so many iconic series and movies that are shot
here in New York as their backdrop from Friends to Seinfeld to
Sex in the City and Gossip Girl you can go on custom tours that follow all of
these movies and series around the city.
Number 28 stay somewhere unique! For convenience Midtown Manhattan is the
best location to see Times Square, a lot of midtown Manhattan attraction and it's
really close to the subway but I also highly recommend Airbnb. I have stayed in
Airbnbs as staycations here in New York City and definitely loved that
local authentic experience if you stay with a super host or just a really good
host they will give you recommendations of places right near you and some of
their local hidden gems. You can also use my code down below just get $40 off your
first Airbnb you can stay in a modern skyscraper or a Brooklyn brownstone just
like this one!
Number 29 do something different! I wish I could include
everything that is in New York City in this whole video but I can't so
definitely look up your favorite thing and see if there's a museum or an
exhibit or even a tour dedicated all to it. You would be surprised there are some
really fun quirky, unique things that this city has to offer that you can't
find anywhere else! Number 30 visit again in a different season! As New Yorkers think
New York is the center of the universe you will likely want to come back again.
So my favorite time to visit is definitely the spring when you can see
the cherry blossoms and it is not as warm and crowded as the summer months
which is the most popular time so my top recommendation is to visit during the
spring in April or May or in the fall during September and October when you
can hopefully see the leaves changing color which is so beautiful and the fall
weather is much better than summer. If you love the holidays you will love
visiting the city in December and January that is when you can go ice
skating at Rockefeller Center or the less crowded Bryant Park. You can even
enjoy beautiful window displays at Fifth Avenue and see the Rockefeller tree!
I'm Jen thank you so much for watching the top things to do in New York City

RAVE TIPS - First Time CLUBBING TIPS for guys!! (EDM Club Survival Guide) - Duration: 5:25.
so this week I was at the all new Club Academy la in Hollywood to see trans DJ
duo gabriel & dresden but if you've ever wanted to see an EDM DJ at a club then
you're gonna want to stick around for my 6 tips in this video ready let's go hi
everyone I'm Doug and this is fat boy Doug a channel with an epitope for life
this channel is all about giving tips and advice on how you too can live a
happy and fabulous lifestyle so if you're new here please consider
subscribing below ok so this weekend I was at Academy LA and I was there
watching Gabriel & Dresden this trance DJ duo they're part of the N Judah Beats
label which you may know of from above and beyond and they were also there at
common ground which was above and beyond store for their newest album and this is
actually Gabriel & Dresden store for their album the only Road so you haven't
heard it yet go on Spotify iTunes I'm sure you can find it it's a really good
album but on today's video I'm gonna give you tips on how to survive your
time and an EDM club so you may wonder what's the difference between a regular
Club and an EDM Club and an EDM Club it's all about that one DJ that you're
watching maybe they have special guests or openers but you're there to watch
that specific DJ at a regular Club yes there's a DJ but they're not the main
focus or there to kind of dance and socialize with your friends here at an
EDM club you're really paying attention to the music and your focus on that DJ
and the clubs themselves may have more strict guidelines or dress codes which
is my first tip check the dress code when you're going to a regular Club you
may just be wearing t-shirts shorts but on an EDM club they like to make it more
upscale they do have a dress code so you want to check on their website to see
what that dress code is specifically for Academy LA they told us no sandals no
shorts no tank tops no backpacks and no offensive graphics I've actually been to
clubs where they told guys that we had to wear button-up shirts or at least
shirts with collars so you really want to check the dress code beforehand so
you don't get turned away at the door which brings us to tip number two don't
wear anything gray or light-colored at an EDM Club you're going to be packed in
there with a lot of people so you're probably going to sweat a lot so my tip
is to wear darker clothing so you don't see
the sweat marks on your shirt you just don't want to be that guy that looks all
sweaty so even if you are really sweaty you can kind of hide that with a darker
shirt but for tip number three to make sure you're not actually that sweaty I
suggest bringing a fan so I actually checked with the Khadem ela beforehand
to make sure that I can bring a hand fan into the club again there are strict
rules sometimes for clubs so you want to make sure that you can bring a fan first
but it truly is a lifesaver when it's really hot in your packing there with so
many people it just feels so good to fan yourself plus you can make friends by
Fanning other people I actually do this a lot I'll just stand there and turn
around in a circle and fanni everyone around me and everyone is so thankful
whenever I do that it's definitely a great conversation starter they'll ask
you where you got it what kind of fans you have so if you're interested in
getting your own fan and I suggest going to WWF that fan calm I've included a
link below but it also includes a promo code for you to get 10% off on all the
fans they have a whole bunch of awesome designs that you're going to want to
check out so check the description below for that link and that promo code but
for tip number 4 another great way to make friends is to have gum with you
not only is it good to keep your breath minty fresh but it's a great way to make
some new friends by ripping your gum in half and give it to them so I suggest
getting the type of gum that's the stick of gum instead of the little capsules so
that you can rip it up and share it with someone else
alright tip number five is actually one that I shared in my rave gear video but
it's super important and as earplugs I was actually going to film this video at
the club but it was so loud and the base was so heavy that there was just no way
that you could hear me on camera they definitely upgraded the sound system in
there because I had been there before when it was still create and it was not
that loud but thank goodness I had my earplugs if these were not in my ear I'm
pretty sure my eardrums would have been blown so they're great at EDM festivals
outside but it's actually even more important to have them when you're in an
idiom club inside because the sounds can reverberate and it's just going to
even louder so you really need these to keep your eardrums healthy and my last
tip for you is don't be that rude person to push your way through the crowd so
we're all there to watch the deejay and yes it gets crowded and I'm sure your
friends are in different locations in the club but there's a right way and a
wrong way of going through the crowd so many times there are people that will
just movie aside by pushing you over and then just walking straight through to
where they need to go sure it may take a few more seconds to ask nicely to see if
you can move past this person or maybe just tap them on the shoulder and let
them know that you want to get through but that's just so much better than just
pushing your way through and my bonus tip for you is to bring your fan with
you as you go and fan the people in front of you so they can let you through
all right so I had a great time at Gabriel & Dresden but where are you
gonna go for your next EDM concert or festival I'd love to know in the
comments below and also make sure to check out my other videos right here and
subscribe to my videos here and click the bell notification so you'll know
whenever I post something new also check the description below for your promo
code for eclectic fan comm where you get 10% off everything there alright
everyone thanks for watching bye

Back To School 2018 Tech Guide - For Students On A Budget - Duration: 5:00.
I can hardly believe its already august, and for some that means its back to school season.
Either if you're currently going to high school, or if you commute to school or if
you live on campus heres a quick little guide of pieces of tech that I think you should
pick up before going back to school that wont break the bank.
First up on this list are the Sony WH-CH700N, these are one of Sony's newest and cheapest
bluetooth ANC headphones…
Obviously these headphones don't sound as good and their Active Noise Cancelation isn't
as good as their older brother the 1000XM2, but they get the job done.
I feel that having a good pair ANC headphones is important for any high school or college
student because they can help you block out loud and inconsiderate neighbors while you're
trying to study or you can sneak in a quick power nap while you're on the bus on your
way to school or work.
The Sony 700N retail for $200, but they routinely go on sale.
If you want to pick any of the products featured on this list I"ll have links in the description
below and if you use the links it really helps out the channel.
And if you want to learn more about either of these products then watch their full reviews.
Next up on this list is another Sony product, the Sony XB31 bluetooth speaker.
And this is mainly for people who live on campus.
Obviously you're going to have a lot of studying to do at school… but you're also
going to need some time to relax and hang out with friends.
The XB31 sounds good, has a long battery life, and you can also use it as a battery bank
to charge you phone.
But there are a few reasons why im recommending the XB31 over all of the other mid sized speakers
I've reviewed.
Since the XB31 is much smaller than the XB41 its much easier to travel with and to throw
into your back pack.
And its also much more durable than the JBL Charge 3 and Pulse 3 cause you don't have
to worry about damaging the exposed radiators if you were to cram either of these speakers
into your back pack.
And besides the light feature on the front is a huge added benefit.
Next up on this list is the JBL clip 3, and I love this guy cause it has become my dedicated
podcast machine.
You can use it to listen to ted talks, audio books, lectures, or educational podcasts…
while you're showering, doing homework, or just doing chores around the house or your
dorm.
And since the Clip 3 has a really strong bluetooth connection you can have it on you while your
phone is charging in a different room.
And the last speaker on this list is actually the google home mini.
Google assistant can actually help you with your homework.
If you're working on a paper you can quickly ask the assistant for synonyms so you're
not constantly using the same words, and you can also ask it to define or even spell words
you're having issues with.
But I personally really like using the assistant when im doing math or science homework.
You can quickly ask it basic math questions, unit conversions, or elemental properties…
and you actually end up saving a good amount of time cause you're not constantly having
to plug numbers into a converter or you don't have to look up certain properties on your
own.
The mini just spits it out.
If you're living on campus chances are you have access to a free gym and thats where
the Powerbeats 3 come in.
If you're looking for a pair of sports earphones to workout with I feel you cant go wrong with
the Powerbeats 3.
They sound decent, they have a very long battery life, and thanks to that W1 chip they have
very solid bluetooth connections.
They usually retail for $200, but they are forever on sale over at amazon for about $135,
I'll have those linked down below as well.
And finally to power everything on this list, it is more important than ever to have your
own battery bank.
Theres nothing worse than desperately needing to charge your phone but then realizing there
are no free power outlets.
And using the public charging station in the mess hall also isn't ideal cause you're
going to be tied down to one spot for awhile, and thats even if you're able to plug in.
And thats where the Belkin Pocket Power comes in.
Its small, light weight, and comes in various sizes.
And having that $2,500 Connected Equipment Warranty gives you a little piece of mind.
And there you have it, these are a few pieces of technology that I feel you should pick
up before going back to school that will hopefully make you a little more productive and make
your time on campus a little more enjoyable without breaking
the bank.

Rigoletto: an essential guide to what to listen out for in Verdi's most famous opera - Duration: 4:42.
Verdi was a very progressive thinker and so for him a curse is a thing of
nonsense. He wasn't superstitious he didn't believe in the supernatural so
how do you make a curse real? Well, he realized of course that a curse
is a matter of perception. Now, the actual curse spewed forth by Monterone is
full of rage, fire, brimstone, wrath everything they expect.
Fantastic music, it's extremely expressive, it's extremely mysterious,
something is going to happen. After the tumult and upset of the first scene,
Rigoletto is left on stage by himself and we hear this rather Wagnerian
chord articulated with a base rhythmic figure. It's angst, fear, worry, then he
heightens the tension by raising the top note.
He's looking for solace he's looking for some sort of comfort and we reached the
dominant, the most comforting chord in music, from here we know where we are going.
The C that he's about to sing
desperately wants to rise and that is in fact what Verdi first wrote but if this
C which is imbued with such a desire to move stays, repeats and doesn't
resolve
everything is left hanging. Verdi based this prelude on the curse. Solo trumpet
and trombone start the entire piece
and so one of the great baritone soprano duets begins. To music of surpassing
beauty we learn about a father's almost obsessive love and the daughters naive
trust. At the end of the duet Rigoletto leaves and he entreats his
daughter never to go out. The curse so prevalent in Rigoletto's mind must come
to fruition somehow and it does so, of course, through the Duke.
The beautiful girl he was talking about at the beginning of the Opera is
Rigoletto's daughter Gilda and in his second aria he says that he has never
felt like this before. So he waits till Rigoletto leaves
and he sneaks in, disguised as a poor student knowing that's what Gilda will
like, he surprises her and she is irredeemably lost. Gilda, trying to find
out what is going on in her own mind, begins her famous aria.
Blossoms to a new chord
she says his name to herself. New chord...
showing all the emotions that she's going through.
Her last line is extremely important and unfortunately prophetic. She says 'even my
last breath will be yours' and so we have all the ingredients for a great tragedy.
This is one of the great evenings in the theatre. I hope you enjoy it.

7 ESSENTIAL Study Abroad Tips | UK International Student Guide #Spon - Duration: 18:17.
hello everyone and welcome back to english with lucy I've got a slightly
different video for you today today I'm going to give you my seven tips for
studying in the UK this video is for students who are thinking about studying
in the UK or who are already studying here but want some more advice about
fitting in and finding accommodation I've made this video in collaboration
with chapter who provide incredible student accommodation across zone 1 and
2 but more about that later in this video we're going to cover
making friends the language visas accommodation choosing a uni getting in
the whole lot also I have lovingly written subtitles for you so don't worry
if you don't understand everything switch on the subtitles and we can also
talk about learning English a little bit later on right let's get started right
tip number one is do your first assignment and your first assignment is
a research assignment you need to find a good University and you need to research
both the University and the courses incredibly carefully I was an
international student in Madrid and I remember thinking I don't care where I
go I just want to be in Madrid and that was the wrong way to go about things I
had a great experience in Madrid I should have looked at all of the
universities and courses to make sure that I picked the right one because I
have a feeling I missed out on a couple of really cool opportunities you need to
ask yourself a lot of different questions you need to use a variety of
resources and find a variety of opinions as well don't trust the first person you
talk to ask as many people as you can some questions you should be asking
yourself are how is the University ranked use the league tables I'll be
putting lots of links and information in the description box
not only how is the University ranked but how is your specific course ranked
just because one University might be the best in England it doesn't mean that
their version of your course is the a good university might not have the
best ranked course but the experience could be exactly what you're looking for
make sure you look into what the course is like and how its examined some
courses are completely exam based some have way more essays and research
projects and presentations you need to look and find what you think is right
for you another question what are the entry requirements are you realistically
going to get into that university what grades do you currently have do you need
to take an extra exam chances are you might have to if you're not a native
speaker of English what's the location like we'll be talking more about
location in the next topic but I'm obviously very biased towards London
because I think it's perfect for an international student and I was a
student there for two and a half years yes two and a half years of my four-year
degree one last thing to think about when you're choosing University is which
University group you might not have heard of this before but there are
groups of universities like the Russell Group which is a group of universities
focused on research and academic achievement or the University Alliance
which are way more business engaged number two accommodation is key and this
is such a big topic for international students because it's not always easy to
find suitable accommodation in the UK because often you will have to have a
guarantor that earns over a certain amount in the UK and that is why student
accommodation directed towards international students is such a godsend
for you I cannot reiterate enough how important it is to choose the right
accommodation in the right location with the right people if you get this right
you have the foundations for an amazing experience in the UK I don't want to
pressure you but if you do get this wrong and I got this wrong before and I
had a really nasty time if you do get this wrong it can make your life a bit
of a misery for the first year of my degree I lived in zone 4 which was so
far from the centre in a really boring residential the kind of nasty area there
were no there was no nightlife there were no shops it was pretty awful and I
lived in a really badly run block student flats they told us it was all
going to be amazing and it really really wasn't however in my last year of
university I lived near to my University in a gorgeous room with lots of sunlight
a lovely view lots of friends nearby it was wonderful and I had such a great
time the difference was mind blowing I had the privilege of going to see the
chapter in Kings Cross to have a look at what I can only describe as the most
incredible student accommodation I have ever seen in my life it was just a few
minutes walk from Kings Cross station and it was this amazing glass building
with loads of outside space which is such a luxury in London there you can
sunbathe when it's glorious and sunny outside like it is at the moment and
have barbecues or chilled drinks have coffee with friends inside there's a
massive common room with football tables table tennis TVs IMAX and downstairs
there's a study area and an additional quiet area which is silent you can make
your coffee in the little kitchen there and then study with friends or when the
exam periods come around cram intensively in the silent area this
would have been ideal for me in my first year I had to take a 50-minute train
just to visit my library and it was the only quiet space I had in London when
you finish studying you can head over to the gym which was amazing it was amazing
it's better than the gyms that you actually have to pay monthly fees for
there were so many weights machines treadmills could have exercise classes
livestream to you so you can follow those and you can do your exercise with
an amazing view but for me the best part of the entire trip to chapter King's
Cross was the room I got to see bear in mind this was one of the lower-priced
rooms so I can't even imagine what the more expensive ones are like when I
walked into the room the first thing I noticed was this incredible view and the
video doesn't do it justice it was amazing you could see for miles you
could see all of the important monuments like the London Eye and the chard
imagine waking up to that every morning you'd feel like such a Londoner I
generously tested out the bed for you guys I can confirm it
very comfy you also get a little kitchen area with a hob microwave fridge
everything you need and you get a bathroom with lots of storage some of
the other chapters across London you can choose to live with a friend or a
partner which saves loads of money or in a shared flat so you have a private room
a private bathroom but you share the communal kitchen and living area finally
each chapter is unique and different so there's something for everyone there are
ten chapters in London there are two new ones being built at the moment which
will open in September there is white city in West London and also Highbury -
which is next to Holloway Road station you've got chapter Portobello which is
next to a canal you've got the chapter in South Bank which has a Sky Lounge
overlooking the London Eye the one in Spitalfields which is spectacular it
overlooks the gherkin if you're planning on studying in the UK I highly recommend
you consider chapter the team will help you find one that is perfect for you and
covers all of your needs whilst being close to your University to see all the
options visit chapter - london comm or if you're already in london you can head
to your nearest chapter and have a chat there's also a live chat option on the
website where you can ask any questions you have the link is in the description
box by the way did I mention there was a cinema number three location is the
foundation choose where you are carefully the UK is very small but we
have massive amounts of diversity what you find in the north is very different
to what you find in the south and what you find in London is very different -
absolutely everywhere else it's on its own do you want to be in a city do you
want to be in a town do you want to be in a rural location there are
universities in all of those locations I studied in the capital city my partner
well studied in the middle of the countryside in an agricultural
university we both had fantastic experiences but extremely different
experiences in my opinion and this is completely subjective I would recommend
for the majority of international students to go to
city and this is simply because there is so much more to do I currently live in a
very very rural location and every now and again I see like an au pair arrive
or an international student and they have a much harder time meeting
like-minded people but that might not be the case for everyone you might love
being in a river location now you're going to want to see the rest of the UK
when you're here what I would recommend is choosing a location with fantastic
transport links to the rest of the UK so you can visit those towns you can visit
the countryside you can visit other cities you can get the full experience
but you can still live in a busy buzzing place now for this video I'm going to be
talking specifically about London because that's where I went and I've got
loads of insight to share with you and I'm pretty sure most international
students are very very happy there there are so many different places in London
that offer different experiences and different feels about them
you've got Kings Cross which is the center of the city I'm sure you heard of
it platform 9 and 3/4 in Harry Potter where you've got some Pancras station
there so you've got easy access to Amsterdam and Paris and the rest of the
city and also it's a hub for travel to the rest of the country
you've got Spitalfields which is like the hipster area full of street art
markets quirky shops coffee shops it's really nice and then you've got places
like Islington which is like a small town within London it's got an amazing
high street with loads of shops restaurants music venues it's gorgeous
if I had to move back to London I think I'd live there there are ten chapters in
London including a few in each of the areas I've mentioned which means that
you can visit every part of the city because this is what makes chapter
special when you're a resident at one of the student accommodations you are a
member of every single one so you can visit all of them and spend time in all
of them this means you can visit every location use their facilities attend
their parties and events they've got things like book clubs movie nights
parties networking sessions karaoke nights
honestly I visited one and I wanted to be a student I wanted to relive my
student days but in a chapter because it would have solved my biggest problem
which was making friends right tip number four
familiarize yourself with the visa system early at present international
students from outside the EU or UK must apply for an international student visa
it is up to you to make sure that you comply with everything however you're
not in this alone if you have an offer from a university they want you to come
to the University they will do everything in their power to help you
get that visa remember you can also do a short term study visa which is for
shorter courses like English courses for example you'll be applying for a Tier
four student visa again information in the description box you can apply if you
have been offered a place on a course if you can speak read write and understand
English and if you have enough money to support yourself and pay for the course
the earliest you can apply is three months before the course begins and
you'll usually get a decision on your visa three weeks
after application you can arrive in the UK before your course starts and this is
highly recommended you want to have time to settle if your course is six months
or under you can arrive up to a week before and if it's six months or over
you can arrive up to a month before the great news is with most student visas
you can work and earn money so you can work up to 20 hours a week although I
really think being a student in the UK working twenty hours would be far too
much so that's very generous there are links to full guidance on visas below
but remember the university should be there to help you get through it
tip number five this is a broad one but it's meet as many people as you can now
making friends in the UK can be hard sometimes that's why I really recommend
living in student accommodation because everyone is there everyone one wants to
make friends I remember being in student accommodation and thinking oh do I talk
to them do I not and when I finally met that person later it turns out that they
also wanted to talk to me that day as well
everyone's there for the same reason to study to experience new things to make
friends the advice I can give to you about making friends in the UK
is number one sign up to clubs and events I've met so many more people
doing classes and proper focused events like dog training cooking classes
running clubs sports activities then I have on a night out when you arrive in
the UK in September October depending on when your course starts it'll likely be
a week called freshers week every night there's a party you get to meet loads
and loads of people they're not necessarily going to be the people that
you spend the rest of your year with universities in the UK have things
called societies and they're basically clubs where like-minded people can do
the things that they enjoy chess societies sports societies cheerleading
societies religious societies it's a great way to meet people like you join
as many as you can you don't have to commit to all of them pick a couple that
you like go consistently make loads of friends another one if you're living in
a big city you will realize that traveling to meet friends doesn't often
happen so it's good to live near fellow students that's why I think chapters so
great it's likely that other people from the surrounding universities will be
living in the chapter and you can go to all of the parties in events and
sessions in all of the other chapters so you suddenly could potentially meet so
many people thousands they're all students they have similar timetables to
you probably similar interests as well it's
a great opportunity number six fit in with the culture this is a
difficult one it completely depends on where you're from and how different your
culture is to the British culture but I'd really recommend that you
familiarize yourself with British culture and how we tend to do things but
take everything or with a pinch of salt trust me we don't spend all day drinking
tea and then at five o'clock get absolutely off our faces on beer well
some of us do my advice to you is make learning about British culture one of
your hobbies if you can try and meet and talk to as many British people as you
can there are so many Brits making amazing videos on YouTube all you have
to do is type British culture and loads of us will come up
but don't be scared London and many other cities are so so international
chances are that food you miss from home you'll find it in a London shop you'll
probably even find it in our world foods aisle in the supermarket the best way to
learn about British culture through meeting at British people and if you're
finding that difficult try offering your services on a language exchange website
or Facebook group lastly let's talk about your English skills you will need
to be able to prove that you can speak read write and understand English well
you will need to prove this for your visa and you'll also need to prove it to
the University it's likely that the university will request a higher
standard of English than the Border Agency when you look on the university
websites you will see what the language requirements are and different
universities will require different levels so it's worth looking around many
UK universities will offer you a language course to help you prepare and
that will be ongoing throughout your studies and there should be lots of
support as well the universities want you to do well
they don't want to just get you in and what you suffer the exam grades needed
are there for a reason and you will have support throughout your time common
exams are the IELTS the TOEFL the Cambridge Advanced the PT academic
information on all of this down there in the description box the different exams
have different parts to them they're done in different ways they also have
different costs so it's worth looking at which exam is right for you and which
exam is suggested or recommended by your University right guys that's all the
information I can give you today I really hope you enjoyed this lesson
put any questions you have in the comments and I'll do my best to have
some sessions answering them don't forget to check out chapter the link is
in the description box chapter - London comm they've got an amazing selection of
student accommodation locations and options lots of different prices lots of
different lengths of stay it comes highly recommended that's it for today's
lesson I hope you liked it I hope you learned something don't forget to
connect with on all of my social media I've got my
Facebook I've got my Instagram and I've got my Twitter and I will see you soon
for another lesson yeah

Junior Year Survival Guide: How to Prepare - Duration: 8:51.
hey Karen what's up why are you so sad what's up face huh well everyone's been
telling me that junior year is the hardest year ever in high school I'm
gonna take that SAT AP exams you just are tough and everything that's real and
hard and I'm not gonna survive school so that is not going to happen
that is BS okay everyone who says do not listen to them they ain't got it wrong
do not be that person okay you are okay you are fine you know it's going to be
fun it's high school the only difference is that you're one year closer to
graduating which should make it more exciting that you're going into junior
year so this is my junior year a Survival Guide ten things that I wish
that I knew before I wanted to junior year because I was one of the people who
was very very gullible and fell for the stuff that my friends told me are you
ready to die just kidding everyone in junior year is super super pumped but
you're also extremely nervous so first let's go for me I walked into my first
period classroom English language composition age
honors with my teacher I sat in the front row because yes you always want to
sit in the front row if you're I know your friends will probably like I'm good
secondly if you want to survive junior year you got to bring your own food
bring your own snacks classes sometimes take forever the teachers talking a lot
you're kind of falling asleep and it's super super embarrassing when you know I
was sitting in class one time and my stomach rumbled like really really hard
and it sucks because it was only a third period
I needed two more periods to get to my lunch period so it's always handy to
pull out a nice healthy snack munch on it and you're good to go we're gonna do
so third thing to survive bring up planner is crucial to see your dates you
need to be organized there is a lot of stuff engineer homework assignments
presentations and you really want to see something where you can tie manage
yourself junior year I made the mistake of not owning up on her and I can tell
you that I could have been way way way better but when freshman year came in I
had a planner you know fool nerded it out and say it's a life-changer lot but
all prepare for the SATs and a CTS so junior year is the first time that you
take the SAT and a CT for the first first time the actual test and I know it
kind of gets like the date literally when I had to take my SAT exam I was
like who the heck I it's today I have to go I don't even study I took the SAT
exam without studying if I didn't have you know I have to take the SAT again to
get a higher score because I so helping you out prepare for it early first day
of school get yourself a book don't wait til
spring season because you are not there's not enough time it's just not
possible five soul-search for your major you are
so close going into college the senior is just all about applying junior year
you need to sole search you need to know what do you want to do for the rest of
your life you want to know what you want to do you do not want to wait last
minute it's not just cut everyone out for a moment and listen to yourself and
imagine what you want to do in the future
6 take leadership positions if it's in sports clubs electives anything but yeah
junior year colleges are really looking at you that is a year that they look at
when people say yes that's cu that they look at so everything has to be
can you screw up you're not gonna get to college whoa that's not gonna happen
everyone makes mistakes you're not going to want to be perfect they just want to
see that you have a diversity of balance you know it doesn't all have to be
academics if you have other realms of you know leadership sports they're gonna
accept you still because it's making you different trust me people who get really
good in academics but don't have any type of diversity rejected you captain
in a sport being um some type of cabinet member in the colossal don't do it just
because he wanted to look good on college I took up a club of community
service and I was like oh yeah this'll look good on my college application
community service and I'm in the cabinet secretary first day of the dogs that I
went in just didn't like it it wasn't my leadership position want to
do something that represents you and that you love and you have a passion and
then you can put that on your college application you don't want to fake it
you want to be authentic seven confident so in high school you
have to have confidence you don't want to be a Wallflower you don't want to be
shy you also don't want to be too crazy just the right amount of confidence
you're not confident you don't go out of your comfort zone you're not going to
experience new things you're not going to you know there's probably something
out there for you and confidence can be like very very small I mean in a
classroom I didn't really like ass math teacher I built a bond with him and
because I built that bond later on he actually offered me a job as
an assistant which was right at school I mean that wouldn't have happened if I
never spoke up so little things like that confidence it really really counts
sneeze in front of the classroom when it's the most quiet that that's
confident eight nine and ten don't compare yourself to anyone
this is such a big one that I just knew it needed to be three numbers on the
list literally I don't know why every high schooler does this but whenever
they take an exam AP exam every one is the most immature so that happens in
high school but don't be that person and if they ask you about your test you want
a glow globe but I would just say no you know I don't want to tell you because
you don't want to compare yourself that's what everyone does in high school
and it's so yeah would it why do you care let me live in my life don't put
yourself down basically that's what you do when you compare yourself to someone
and if you are doing it to make yourself feel better then you are a horrible
person so those are my things she survived high
school they're kind of obvious but in the moment no one really knows because
they're just listening to everyone around them peer pressure that it is
really hard and it clouds your brain and you don't know but trust me junior year
is really fine except spring season because of all the exams but I mean what
you put that aside everything is cool so don't worry it's like any other year
it's just the first year that you take college courses and if you're not taking
college courses if you're taking like your regular college prep classes it's
still the same it's still the same oh my god dude I'm I'm ready for junior year
yeah junior year for sure will I really fast before you know it you will be
graduating and it's kind of crazy so take my word
so yeah I'm into that oh my God thank you so much
if you liked this video give it a like you know subscribe if you want to be
friends I guess comment if you're going into Jeannie here how you feel I want to
know you know I'll see you next time

Lissabon Guide | Verlorenes Gepäck trotz 4 (!!!) Stunden Transferzeit - Duration: 4:11.
48 hours in Berlin were enough. As you can see, we are at the airport again.
And this time we are headed to Lisbon. We will be there for the WebSummit
I haven't been there before and can't wait.
I am sure, it's going to be very interesting and that we will have a great time.
After a couple of days in Lisbon, we will be in Cascais for 1 1/2 days and then we are finally flying back to Berlin
and we will stay longer
than 48 hours.
We made it to Lisbon!
We arrived very late in the evening yesterday, because we spent quite a while at the airport after our arrival.
Our luggage haven't made it to Lisbon!
A four hours layover obviously wasn't enough time for Ibera to
transfer our luggage to Lisbon.
I get it. Four hours isn't that much time.
So yep, that's why I am wearing the same clothes I was wearing yesterday;
in which I also had to sleep btw.
And we also have to reschedule our day.
We first have to buy new clothes and washing things
so we can finally get changed and refres ourselves.
All my make-up and washing things are in my suitcase, so I don't have anything here at the apartment.
And I really hope we will have some time to see and enjoy Lisbon this afternoon...

A Quick Guide To Dealing With Poor Performance - Duration: 5:02.
hi it's Steve from salestrong with a video on dealing with poor performance and how to build a
world-class sales team today's topic is a quick guide to dealing with poor
performance the first and most important thing here is to actually deal with it
too many times in my experience we avoid those difficult conversations until it
becomes very uncomfortable for both parties
and one of the exercises I like to get sales leaders to do is the three box
challenge in the three box challenge I ask them to
consider their team and put them into three boxes the first box being who are
the role models those high performers in your team who are getting the results are
doing it in the right way who are those average performers who
with the right kind of support and development could at some point become
the high performers and who are the low performers the people that right now you
just don't feel would make it and once they've given me their percentage split
across their team in to each of the boxes then if they have any in the low
performance box which of course the vast majority do have then I ask why they're
allowing those people to exist in the state inside their team because these
people are the anchors on the team's performance potentially
disproportionately drag it back the second suggestion I have then is have a
look at yourself in terms of your leadership style and I like this model
from Mark Murphy he wrote a book called 100 Percenters and Mark looks at two scales
one is the level of challenge that managers have with their team and the
other scale is the emotional connection that they have with their team and what
Mark has found is that those hundred percenters are those the deliver a
high level of challenge but they have a high level of emotional connection with
their team as well and the question I ask you is only one of those hundred
percenters because if you are it means that you're dealing with your people in
the right way and then the other thing that I suggest is that we can actually
preempt poor performance by being more effective in our coaching and coaching
performance improvements with all of our team and as part of that process what
I'd recommend is you know we should tell
our team where they stand today what the
performance levels are like and be very clear with them on that we should also
sit down with them and work out what their business and personal goals are
over the next period of time and then it'd be lovely to think that there was just a
linear progression of performance improvement over time but this isn't
the reality that we all live within actually performance has peaks and troughs as we
all know and my suggestion is that we help coach people through those peaks
and troughs meaning that the signs of low performance can be dealt with
earlier and therefore we're able to work with that individual to correct those
poor performance issues before they become too much of a major problem the
other thing to consider in your work with performance improvement is to think
about individual situations and whether it's a competence issue or a commitment
issue or a bit of both and if we know whether it's competence or commitment
then we can start to change our style accordingly and have a much more
positive impact on whether someone improves their performance or not so for
example if someone is down here in the low competence low commitment stage then
actually it might be that they're in the wrong role and part of our coaching
might be around coaching them into different roles both within or without
the organisation if someone has low competence in the moment that they're
highly committed they've got a lot of will around it and maybe our approach
here is in guiding more and allowing them to have learning develop
opportunities that will allow their competence levels to lift the other
piece of advice that I have which is useful is having a process in place to
have the individual think through all the options that they've got we can use
both divergent convergent thinking around here divergent thinking being
think being about all the options that you have and then convergent bringing it
down into one two or three specific actions that both parties are in
agreement with would potentially help performance and then the final thing
that I'd like to look at is making sure that accountability for improvements
performance doesn't rest with a sales manager actually it should rest
with the individual who is suffering from the low performance at the moment
and what we sometimes see is a blame game going on with below-the-line
behavior where we might have people ignoring or denying there's an issue
their tail finger-pointing a wait-and-see attitude or confusion tell
me what to do or it's not my job what we want to do is break through some of
these blame game activities and make sure that the individual knows these are
the options that they've got they've chosen those options for themselves and
then they're responsible for delivering on them if you'd like to chat about this
topic in more detail and please contact me at steve@salestrong.co.uk
