the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Where cattle can't graze, these prairie dogs have set up shop.
300 of these black-tailed prairie dogs
will eat as much as a cow and her calf.
300 may sound like a lot of dogs,
but their communities can be much bigger.
The largest prairie dog town ever
recorded in Texas covered 25,000 square miles
and held around 400 million prairie dogs.
But that was a long time ago.
In the 20th century, 98% of prairie dogs were wiped out.
Now there's a much smaller but stable
population, hunted less by man and more by natural predators.
