How to Get A's in College | Hacks to getting a 4.0 - Duration: 15:58.
hello welcome back to my channel my name is Shannon and I'm here to remind you to
always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn then always be a unicorn before
this video starts like this video no really just hit the like button because
you're gonna enjoy these before we get started I just want to say this is just
the video these are just my opinions and if you have different opinions than me
you should definitely let me know in the comments if you clicked on this video it
is because you are a college student or going to be a college student and you
want to know how to get A's and college so why should you listen to me well I
have three degrees I graduated summa cum laude I even got an award for the
highest GPA in one of my majors during my graduating year so basically I know
how to get A's there are plenty of videos out there that will tell you to
work hard to study and I'm not going to tell you any of my study tips or any of
the ways that I studied in this video this video is about how to get a's and
if you're smart enough to be watching this video you're smart enough to know
you gotta work hard and study you don't have to be a genius to get a's in
college 41% of grades awarded in college today ras graduating summa cum laude is
about being able to maintain your GPA over time and that includes in your
later years when courses just start getting much harder because you are getting more
in depth into your material so what I suggest is try to get a lot of A's in
your early years so that when you're in a more difficult class in your later
years you can maybe afford to get a B and it won't jeopardize your GPA
managing your schedule my first tip is about managing your schedule personally
I took like seven classes a semester which I actually had to apply for cuz my
school would only let you register for six which is 18 credit hours and I
wanted to take 21 and I also took between two and four classes
during the summer I also did not work so it was easier for me to take so many
classes but my advice to you you can take like four classes plus two during
the summer you'll still graduate on time but you'll have one fewer class than
most people have most people take five classes during the semester and then
don't take any summer classes but if you take four instead of five obviously that
does reduce your workload and you'll just have a lot more time during crunch
periods like midterms final exams all those times when papers are due you'll
find yourself with one class worth of extra time I understand that some people
may not be able to afford to take classes during the summer but this is a
part of a strategy and I will discuss that later in this video
I understand it's still very important to graduate on time some of your last
year you can take the five courses in the fall and the five courses in the
winter semester and you'll still graduate in May as far as working goes
personally I did not work during college but I also took a lot more courses than
what I'm recommending here also there is some research that shows that college
students that worked up to 20 hours actually had a small bump in their GPA
whereas those who did not work actually got a lower GPA but people who worked
over 20 hours a week actually had a marked decrease in their GPA so if you
are going to work I recommend doing so no longer than 20 hours per week and if
possible get a job on campus I know some people who are really successful at
having a job and also being able to get some of their readings done or some like
homework done at their job so some people that worked in the residency that
were just signing in guests and basically watching the door people who
were working at the fitness center at the recreational center that would just
you know help people sign in if they forgot their key fob but most people
could just click in and and be let go so it was just a desk job where their job
is essentially helping anyone who approaches the counter and it didn't
really take up a lot of their time I know a few other people who worked for
the faculty in their department that was later on in college they developed
relationships with their professors and the professors asked if they wanted to
work with them at the college as an assistant so if you want to do that just
try and develop some of those relationships earlier in college and
those were really simple jobs - very similar to working at the fitness center
or helping people in residency this is all to help you manage your schedule and
manage your time and have as much time for studying and have as much time for
homework as possible while also maintaining your social life I think
that's having a social life and college is very important and if you can manage
your time outside of school and work very well then you can actually still
have time for a very vibrant social life when you sign up for classes
my advice is to not sign up for a 8am classes if you can it all avoid it
please do not sign up for 8am classes I'm not saying that you won't show up
maybe you are an early bird but if you sleep in and you might maybe your
studying up late studying for a test you at the same day and you have in class in
the you have 10:00 a.m. class where you test you may very well sleep in and miss
that 8:00 a.m. class whereas if that class was at 2:00 p.m. and you had a
10:00 a.m. test that you would studied all night for you'll make it to the
10:00 a.m. class and then you'll do your test and you'll make it to the 2:00 p.m.
class I will also say that for me even somebody who gets A's as far as 8 a.m.
classes go those were the ones that I was most likely to miss the issue with
missing classes is not necessarily missing the classes in and of themselves
some people are smart enough that if they consult the materials that are
given to them they're smart enough to learn the materials the problem comes in
the fact that many classes including ones that were at the colleges that I
went to offer credit for attending class and remove it if you miss class I had
several classes that if you missed more than two classes you started to get dots
on your grade and this accounted for 10% of my grade for the most part and 10 % of my grade is way more than I can afford to lose and especially given that
I need to get above a 90% in order to maintain my GPA so I missed almost no
classes because the second I missed a class that's an extra half a percent
that I have to make up in my coursework my next tips are about interacting with
faculty I'm not saying that your teacher has to like you for you to get an A I'm
saying that it helps be respectful be polite ask intelligent questions prove
that you're paying attention there are all sorts of studies that prove that
teachers and humans are biased just hope and try to create the circumstances that
result in that bias being for you rather than against you there's a few ways you
could do this one is established that you're a good student if you sit in the
front there's actually studies that show that students who sit in the front get
better grades than students who sit in the back there's also studies that show
that students who dress better were perceived by teachers to have a better
academic potential than students who were dressed poorly not saying you have
to be the best dressed person ever I'm saying show up looking put together show
up like you want to create a positive impression ask good questions
remember that interested is interesting teachers like students who ask good
questions that proves that you're paying attention if you're able to get this
positive impression you'll develop a halo effect and your teacher will just
assume that you're good at things and assume that you're an overall good
person which makes you good at other things it doesn't only protect you from
bad things like it and like a poor grade it also helps elevate you so that your
teacher will just automatically give you the benefit of the doubt
this benefit of the doubt is very valuable in the right circumstances I
have definitely used my teachers positive perception of me to negotiate
with them if you ever need to negotiate with a teacher for example for an
unexcused absence like one time I wanted to go on a Google hangout with the body
shop and help promote their sleeping masks and my midterm exam was on the
same day I got my teacher to excuse that absence for that excuse knowing that I
was just gonna go on a Google hangout and promote the body shop sleeping mask
another time I had a panic attack in the middle of class during an exam and I
asked the professor to leave in the middle of the exam
had I not developed that rapport with that professor he could have assumed
that I was going to go look at materials that I had not properly studied but
instead he understood that I just needed to use the restroom for a few minutes
not developing this halo effect or this positive impression of yourself for your
teacher can even have some devastating effects for example let's say someone
cheats off your paper well your professor doesn't know which one have
you cheated and they don't have a positive impression of you but maybe
they have a positive impression of the person who cheated off of you well made
your teacher now just assumes that you've cheated
that's a terrible consequence for something that's not entirely in your
control but you have the power to develop that
positive rapport with your professor that will make everything easier from
negotiating additional time to complete an assignment to reconsidering a grade
that they gave you my last tip is about what we discussed earlier when I said to
take two summer classes I want you to think about those classes
you have to take that you don't enjoy that you're not very good at and I want
you to take those two classes during the summer but why why should I take these
classes during this summer I love summer it hit these classes think about why you
would take a class during the summer semester is it a possibility that the
reason that you're taking that class during the summer is because you failed
it during the semester and now have to take it during the summer if that's a
possibility for you consider that it might be a possibility for the other
people in the class does that not then overall lower the academic potential of
the room compared to the academic potential of the students in her
classroom during the fall or the winter semester if we can agree that the
academic potential that room is lower than the academic potential of the fall
or winter semester rooms then we can say that the overall bar is lowered if the
bar is lower then that means that you have a higher potential to get a better
grade in the summer then you would in the fall or the winter the reason this
is true and that you won't just get the same C or D that you would have gotten
during the fall or winter semester is because of the way that the institution
likes to see things the way that the institution likes to see things is on a
pretty bell curve they want to see a few people at the top that I've faced they
want to see a few people at the bottom and they want to see a bunch of people
in the middle during the fall and winter semesters the bell curve is still gonna
look like this but because the academic potential in the room is higher it's
going to be more difficult to achieve the higher rungs of the spectrum if you
lower the bar and the bell curve remains the same it becomes easier to attain the
higher levels of the spectrum so because the faculty likes to see this bell curve
the professor is going to try to retain the bell curve they can't fail everyone
just because they failed in the fall or winter or or just
because they don't like math and they're taking in the summer so that they can
have more time to focus on it just because the students on a whole are not
as strong in math doesn't mean that the professor is going to say oh well
they're not as strong in math so we're just gonna fail them all or we're just
gonna give them all C's that's not what happens the professor to a certain
extent by the institution is expected to give out grades that would produce a
bell curve if the professor were to give everyone C's and DS the institution
would say why are you not teaching well why are you not teaching students to the
extent that they can achieve a B in your class so what does this mean this means
that if professor notices that the classroom as a whole is not as strong in
that subject as for example a fall or winter semester that Professor designs
the exams maybe there's easier questions on the exam maybe maybe
there's some extra bonus questions on that exam so if you can take those
summer classes maybe the subject that you're not as strong in or that you're
not as interested in you can get a better grade than if you would have
taken it during the semester with the students who are strong in it or are
interested in it I hope that I explained that right let me know in the comments
what you think about how I'm explaining how it's easier to obtain an A in a
summer classroom circle of peers than in a winter or fall semester circle of
peers so those are the tips that I have for you that are sort of unconventional
tips for getting A's in college this video is just opinion it's just what I
think let me know what you think in the comments about some of these tips I know
some of them are really weird or silly or strange or out of the box let me know
what you think do you think any of them would work do you think any of them
would not work well let me know in the comments what you think about these tips
and I will see you in the next one bye and you'll just have a lot more free
time or time for focusing oh my goodness
focus Shannon students who dress better are perceived to have a greater academic
pertential oh my gosh I said "per-tential"

Animals of NYC to get their holiday blessing soon - News Live - Duration: 4:51.
Sunday, Dec. 9 — one week from this Sunday — is my 10th annual Blessing of the Animals
It's to pray for their health and well-being for the New Year. To bless them, protect them and love our closest best friends who share our lives, our homes, our hearts, and are always there for us
As usual, it's at Christ Church, 60th and Park. An hourlong-ish nondenominational, ecumenical service with a homily, Bible reading, Roosevelt High School choir led by Akira Regan, and procession to the altar for the blessing
We start PROMPTLY at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30. Come early — not last minute, because you mightn't get in
It's 700-plus pet owners with dogs, cats, birds, turtles, rabbits, gerbils, fish in a bowl, whatever
Everything with fur, feathers, fins or fluff. Even the balcony is mobbed. It's free for everyone
All. No reservations. No calls in advance. No RSVPs. No reserved seating. But only owners with pets
No animal without its owner. No owner without an animal. Those creature-less can pick their own house of worship for 2019's blessing
Remember: beforehand — to avoid poo in the pew — walk your Waldo, Whoopee or whatever your he/she/it creature is
And also . . . maybe . . . try to bark, growl, squeak or meow it. I'll be there with Juicy, my 3 ¹/₂ pound Yorkie, to greet all of you
After an animal-related Bible reading, homily, prayer, hymn, carols and police horses (well-behaved, they stay outside), down the aisle to the altar for blessing come police dogs with handlers, Farm to You Revue's goat, pig, alpaca, etc
, Humane Society rescues and each of us with our pets. There's the church's senior Rev
Stephen Bauman and senior Rabbi Peter Rubinstein. I once saw His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan pat a lying-flat Chihuahua smaller than his shoe, Rev
Bauman endeavoring to hug a massive Saint Bernard, and Rabbi Rubinstein swamped by a family of cats and kittens
We're sponsored by the Wilpon, Kalikow, Catsimatidis and NY Post families. Clearing the road and avenue requires permits, for which we thank the city and The Post's Stephanie Kempadoo for arranging, NYPD assistance for which we thank Commissioner O'Neill and Lt
McHugh for providing, and the church itself, which Roseann DeGennaro organizes. Gratitude to the Zimmerman/Edelson p
r. office. We have volunteers, printers of programs, cleanup crews, doggy wipes and bags, helpers, buses, donated toys for the needy animals and two vets present — the Animal Medical Center's Dr
Douglas Palma and Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic's own Dr. Brett Shorenstein. And we gratefully accept any donation for animals in need
Takes an army to pray for a puppy. So: Hugh Jackman with his two, Alec Baldwin with the pair he always walks, Martha Stewart and her chow, Justin Theroux who almost has a private zoo, Ivana and her Yorkshire terrier, Janeane Garofalo who was addicted to Poms
Come one, come all. The whole city's invited. Dinner is for Cher-ing So, back to the two-legged species
Neil Simon Theatre is where "The Cher Show" opens Monday. Tuesday night at 7:45, West 52nd was jammed
Mobs crowding to get in. Cher and some guys ordered dinner steps away at Gallaghers
They did steak, she did sole. Whatever happened, she grew agitated and had to leave
Immediately. Without dinner. Up the street she ran to the theater. The guys followed carrying her plate of fish
According to City Hall's creative statistics, crime in our town is down by several percent
Attention all you crooks and muggers: You're just going to have to try harder. Only in New York, kids, only in New York
