Trump visits flood-ravaged Texas - Duration: 1:54.President Trump flew into a ravaged Texas on Tuesday as Tropical Storm Harvey slammed
the region for yet another day -- with more torrential showers still to come.
His visit came as rescue efforts are ongoing in the devastated city of Houston.
Ro Aram reports.
Trump arrived in Corpus Christi on Tuesday, where the storm first made landfall late last
week.
During a briefing, he praised the work being carried out by rescue officials and said he
wanted the relief effort to stand as an example of how to respond to a storm.
(English) AP - 4113243 / 3 "…it's a real team and we want to do it
better than ever before, we want to be looked at in five years, ten years from now, as this
is the way to do it."
President Trump will not be visiting the worst hit city of Houston due to what White House
spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said was his attempt to not disrupt any of the recovery
efforts.
Massive flooding has left Houston and surrounding suburbs submerged in nearly one and a half
meters of water and is forcing tens of thousands of people to leave their homes.
Two dams in the city are also overflowing, with officials desperately trying to ease
pressure on the dams by releasing water from overflowing reservoirs.
Weather authorities forecast that rain would continue through Thursday with Tropical Storm
Harvey expected to make landfall in nearby Louisiana on Wednesday morning, local time.
At least eleven people are now said to have died.
Officials estimate that nearly half a million people will eventually apply for federal aid
and the total bill to rebuild from the disaster is expected to reach into the billions of
dollars.
However, with President Trump's strained ties with Congress, he faces a tough challenge
in trying to get the funds approved.

Then it becomes a symbol for what many see as the disconnect between the Trump administration and reality; another example of the way in which this president and his family continue to define "appropriate" their own way; and an excuse for partisan name-calling.
Or so became apparent Tuesday morning when President Trump and his wife left the White House to fly to Texas for a briefing on the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, and Mrs.
Trump appeared on the lawn in black pegged trousers, black shades, an olive green bomber jacket — and her stilettos, now a trademark. Very much the same kind of shoes, in other words, she has been wearing since long before she joined her husband on the campaign trail.
