Rekordbox tutorial: getting started beginners guide (part 1) - Duration: 22:06.

this is a beginner tutorial on Pioneer DJ Rekordbox, getting started with

Rekordbox, so let's get started with Rekordbox.

consider subscribing if you already haven't and hit the bell button so you don't miss anything

hey guys welcome to a new video. how are you doing I hope you are doing marvelously well

this video is a Rekordbox tutorial about how to get start with Rekordbox

it's a: let's get started for beginners so if you're already familiar with

Rekordbox you can skip this video. what is Rekordbox and why should you

use it? Rekordbox is the management software of Pioneer to use in your CDJ

what you can do of course is slap your mp3 files on a USB stick and plug

them into your CDJ's for example but if you analyze them with Rekordbox and

make playlists you have some more advantages, like for example: if you have

a genre playlist you can select the genres, if you have analyzed the beatgrid

so you know which count is the first count, so you can really easy use the

sync button for example. that is stuff that you can do with Rekordbox. so you

have a advantage when you use Rekordbox what is the difference between Rekordbox

and Rekordbox DJ? Pioneer has a name giving convention that is a little bit

confusing I know there's a distinct difference between Rekordbox and

Rekordbox DJ. Rekordbox is the management software so you can make

playlists, analyze your songs, make sure that the first count is on the first

beat in the beatgrid on your CDJs also, but with Rekordbox DJ

you can perform, so you can play songs with a controller for example. so instead

of using your CDJ's you can use the software Rekordbox as Rekordbox DJ

and then you can perform, for Rekordbox DJ you need a separate license

Rekordbox is free. And to make it even more confusing: Rekordbox DJ is

integrated in Rekordbox it's the same software if you download

Rekordbox, Rekordbox DJ is secretly already in

that software you can't access it because you need a license key for that

if you have a license key then you get an extra option in the software so you

can use the performance mode of Rekordbox and that performance mode is Rekordbox DJ

so here it is getting started with Rekordbox beginners tutorial

we have to download Rekordbox first before we can use it, so we go to the

website rekordbox.com and there is an item on there download Rekordbox 5

for free. yes I agree. download. and we'll now download. we have to unzip the file

that is now unzipped, now we can install it

now we have to fill in our credentials now we are presented with two options

you can choose the export mode or the performance mode. as I stated before the

export mode is your management mode, so Rekordbox and the performance mode is

record box DJ. We'll choose the export mode. Kuvo: no. Rekordbox gives you the

option to install the necessary drivers for their equipment, so their pioneer DJ

controllers, DJ controllers, or your CDJ's or your DJM mixer. but for now

we're gonna skip this. now we have started Rekordbox. let's first explain

what the different screen elements are first of all on top we have the player

then here on the Left we have our playlists and on the right bottom we have

our tracks. as I said before Rekordbox and Rekordbox DJ are in the same

software. you can switch by clicking here to the export mode, the performance mode

in the lighting mode. the lighting mode is new in Rekordbox 5. the

performance mode is Rekordbox DJ. and as you will see that is somewhat of a

different layout than Rekordbox, the management software. the management

software Rekordbox is the export mode

what we can do there are a couple of different ways you can import songs in

Rekordbox. first you can say: file -> import -> and import one track or a folder

or import a playlist. what I'm gonna do now is import a folder. it's really easy

to have one dedicated folder for all your DJ music. the problem is if you want

to move your record box library later on, or move to a new computer (you buy a

new computer for example) it's easier to move that library over if all the stuff

is in one place. if it's scattered all over the hard drive, you have to find all

your individual songs and ... take it from me, that is a

really annoying task. so import folder and I'm gonna search for the import

folder that I want to use. then I'm gonna search for my music. "DJ music" and I have

all my stuff that I want to import in the 2010 folder. let's open it and Rekordbox

starts to import all the songs Rekordbox 5 & 4 have some screen

real-estate problems. you can see over here if you have a bigger screen than me

bigger than 13-inch, you can see it says analyzing one thousand and something

songs. you can also see what he's doing because here over here it says

0 percent and somewhere over here, you will find what he is doing

99%. if it's done you'll see (if you have album art) you'll see the album art here

and you'll see the waveform over here let's first wait for that import process

to complete now that the input is done I'm going to

show you another way how to import songs in Rekordbox. I'm going to Finder

and I'm going to select a couple of songs. and now I'm gonna drag them over

to Rekordbox. and you'll see that Rekordbox starts to import those songs

now let's make some playlists. a playlist is basically a logical grouping of songs

that means that you can group songs in a playlist so you can easily find them for

example you can make a playlist for a certain event or you can make a playlist

per genre for example. you can do that over here on the left side of the screen

over here you see playlists. to add a new playlist just press the plus button and

you are prompted to make a new playlist "my new playlist". make it a name that you

are finding useful. what I do I do a lot of playlists per genre. so

let's make one. let's make an Electro house. what we now can do, is we can

select different items. I'm just pressing the command button and clicking on the

songs. and now I can drag them over to my new playlist, or I can drag some other

songs to "Electro house" and when you look in the electro house folder you will see

Electro house and you will see over here my new playlist. it's really easy to have

some more structure so what you can do is make a folder and I right click on

playlist and I say create new folder. and I say for example what I will do is I

will give it the name of the year so the 2010 directory and you can make of

course another playlist: "another playlist" in that ,or you can drag your existing

playlists over here

by the way it's not a problem to have your songs in multiple playlists for

example "again faster", I can drag that to "another playlist" or I can drag that to

"my new playlist", no problem at all

if you want to find your songs you can search them

you can search with the search box over

here. you can search in a playlist but you can also search through your whole

collection. in my case I want to search in my collection so collection is

selected. now I search for "hello" and all the songs with "hello" will show up but

when I select "another playlist" there is only "again faster" in here. I will search

for "hello", you will see nothing turns up. and if you want to delete your search

you can click the cross icon over here for more videos about DJing and

producing, subscribe to my channel and hit the bell button to stay updated

when we go back to collection, it is possible that you don't see the exact columns

that I have over here. what you can do is right-click on one of the headers over

here, right click and then you'll see that there pops up a screen and in that

screen you can select which columns you want to see. the columns with a V in

front of it those are checked and that means that

these are showing in your overview. let's say that I want to have the "album artist"

added also, I say "album artist" and you will see "Album artist" is added over here. you can

drag those columns if you want to have that somewhere else

if you want to listen to the song you can click on the waveform and then it

will jump to the part of the waveform that you are clicking. in my case you

won't hear anything, because if I let you hear what I have in my collection I will

get a copyright slap on the *wrist* of YouTube so I won't do that. and you can

stop the song by pressing the stop button in front of the track. you can

load a song in the player by double-clicking on the description, not

on the preview, not on the waveform because then it will jump into that part

of the song. double-click it and then you'll see that it is loaded in the player

by the way if you see two players there is an option over here, that you

can switch between and it says now one player so that is at this view

but I can switch if I want to two players then I have two players. one over

here and one over here. and I can drag some song in player 2, if I want to

now you can see I have two songs in/ underneath each other. I can also have a

view of a simple player. that is this over here or I can have the view of a

full browser without any players. I will switch to the one player for now. because

I want to show you something. I have "crazy for love" over here, on the top

you'll see the album art, the title of the song, the artist of the song, the

length of the song, the key of this song. and this is a Camelot key otherwise you

will have a minor or B major or something over here. this is the BPM the

beats per minute. again you can click somewhere on that waveform and it jumps

in the player over here to waveform. when we look at the part below the upper

waveform we will see a large view of that wave. you can even make it

larger if we click over here. and we can zoom out if we want if we click over

here, if this is annoying then we can click it to the left and if

it's not displayed we can click it over to the right here

you can order tracks by dragging them up or down. that's only possible in a playlist, so it's not

possible in the collection. just grab it and move it up move it down for example

so you can make a list in the order that you want

the next thing that I want to show you is hot cues and cue points

the difference between a hot cue and a cue

point is a hot cue is directly, immediately accessible and a cue point

is not. a cue point you can use to mark certain differences in a song between

for example the break or a drop or the intro, the outro and a hot cue you can

immediately access. so it immediately jumps to that point in your song. that way you

can skip parts of the song for example but you can also use it to recall a

fraction of a song and jump immediately back to the point that you were playing

before. you can have 10 cue points in a song and three hot cues. I say three

because on the older CDJs, the CDJ 2000 nexus and the models before, have only

three hot cues, the newer models the nexus 2 and other DJ controls for

example have 8 hot cues. but if you want to stay compatible with the older

players then you have only three hot cues at your disposal. when we want to

set hot cues or cue points we first have to load in a song in the player. in the

1 player mode (and that's over here) in the 1 play mode and we double click on the

description then it will load in the song

and I want to start with the cue points now we are over here, this is the grid of

the song. but I want to go to "cue and loop". now I can say I want to set

cue points for example to mark the difference between the ... between the break

and the drop. so I will play this song

and I want to set the CUE. now I click on "memory". and then the first memory point

is set. how can we see if it's set? well you see on the right side you see memory

is lit up here, if you want to go to hotcues ,what the hot cues are in a song, we

can click this item, but we are now in the memory tab. that is for the cue points

we can set a name for a cue point the first cue point is on the beginning

of the song, Rekordbox sets that automatically. that's the first one, let's

give it a name. names are by the way totally optional. and this is the break

for example. and we can set another cuepoint over here. then we have to drag

again to the right. then say play and now set Cue, so it jumps to the first beat. now

drag it, if you want to the left, then set again memory and you'll see it will show

up here. now we have set a cue point for the drop. but if it is not the correct

point, we made a mistake for example, when we drag the screen again to the left

then we see that right of those names is a X icon. you can press the X icon for

example if I want to delete this point I will say X and this is gone. I will say X

again and now this cue point is also gone. but I

want to set it again, so I say "memory" and I will set it again for the break. now I

can switch between those cue points by saying this left arrow and right arrow

now I jump back a cue point. and when I say left again it will jump back again a

cue point. there's also a X button over here and that of course removes the

current cue point. now let's head over to the hotcues. how to set the hotcues?

I will select the hot cue tab over here so I can see what hot cues I already

set, you see that over here are the letters a b c d e f g and h. what I can

do, if I set a hot cue over here, when I say: that is my hot cue A, then I click

this button and you'll see hot cue A is over here. I wanna set hot cue B for example

over here. let's cue it, no that's not right, I wanna have it here, and I set

hot cue B over here. and I ... when I for example want hot cue C over here. Cue it, C

But, oh, made a mistake. how do I remove them again? again you can press the X button

over here, or there is an X button with the hot cue over here. I'll press this x

now let's export stuff to our USB thumbdrive. I do not go deep into

details about exporting to USB, I made a separate video about exporting to USB

I will link it up in a card above there are some things that you have to

be aware of. I'll put my thumb drive into my computer and you will see, I will drag

the screen a little bit to the left *right* over here you will see that my 16 gigabyte

USB stick is over here. there are no tracks on it, but I can say for example

I want an entire playlist. I want these six songs of this playlist I want to have

them on my USB thumb drive. I'll right-click on the playlist and I'll say

export playlist to my 16 gigabyte thumb drive. then it shows me a message. don't

ask me again. okay. now on bottom of the screen

you'll see a progress bar, now my exporting is done. what I can do is

remove the thumb drive. but don't pull it out of your computer immediately when

you try to eject your USB thumb drive the regular way via Windows or via

the Mac that won't work. your USB thumb drive is taken hostage by rekordbox. you

need to eject it from Rekordbox. there is no other way around

eject it from Rekordbox, by using this button. remove USB thumb drive. I'll click

it. and now I can safely remove my USB thumb drive. and now we can put the USB

thumb drive in the CDJ

it will do nothing now, but if you select USB on the CDJ, then you'll see that

it displays a message "my settings data was found. push the menu button to load

those settings". those settings you can set in Rekordbox. I will go over those

settings in the next video now you can see that we have over here

all the stuff that we set in Rekordbox and in this case I set a playlist, so

we'll go with a scroll wheel to playlist press that and you will see that is

"my new playlist" that I just created in Rekordbox. now I can open a song and play it

NG Spies - Gwent in-depth Deck Guide - Duration: 21:13.

Hi Gwent players, Green Cricket here doing weekly in-depth Gwent guides, chosen by the

community, which is you!

Just leave a guide suggestion below and the one mentioned the most will be selected for

next Wednesday's guide!

This week we analyse Nilfgaard Spies!

We look over the Card and Decklist, a Mulligan guideline

we check out our general gameplay plan and how to play against each different matchup.

At the end, we also look at an example match!

Subscribe if you like what I'm doing and let's head right into it!

The core card of this deck is Emissary, which is placed on the enemy's side of the board

with the spying tag.

Every time we play this, we can look up two bronze cards from our deck, choose one and

play it.

If we only look at the card itself, then we see that is is not that powerful, but our

other cards interact with spying enemies and therefore trigger bonus effects.

Impera Brigade buffs itself for each enemy spy on the board and played afterwards.

Impera Enforcers deal two damage to an enemy, and 2 for every spy played from then on.

This means that as soon as we played 2 of either of these units, every Emissary will

earn us points either as buff through Brigade or damage onto enemies with Enforcers.

So if you could get all your Impera units on the board, then each Emissary would get

you 10 points in addition to playing a bronze unit from your deck.

Infiltrator can toggle the spying tag on any unit, enabling you to trigger the abilities

of our Impera units another time.

Nauzicaa Brigade deals seven damage to a spying unit and if it kills the target, then Nauzicaa

Brigade is strengthened by 4, which enables a decent round 3 finisher, which we talk about

in the gameplay section.

Vicovaro Medic can resurrect a unit from the enemy's graveyard, enabling us to play more

Emissaries because Emissaries always land in the enemy's graveyard and not in ours.

Alternatively, we can also steal big units, which often comes handy, when you play against

Skellige.

Ceallach offers another way to create Emissaries because when you play him, you can choose

to spawn either an Assassin, Ambassador or Emissary.

By playing him together with Emyr and then using Decoy onto him, we can generate 3 Emissaries

already.

Three Emissaries played from our deck in addition to 3 Emissaries we can revive with Vicovaro

Medics is more than enough to thin through all our Bronze cards.

This is also the reason why Assire plays a big role in this deck because she can put

key cards into our deck in round 3 like Nauzicaa Brigade and or Infiltrator.

Joachim is a 5point spying unit, which buffs one of our bronze and silver units by 10 and

is best used in round 3, when you thinned so much, that you know exactly what you will

get with him.

Cantarella is a simple spy, but if you play her onto a board with some of your Impera

units, you will not lose as much value as you typically would with a spy.

Iris is your round 3 joker, especially if you have access to Nauzicaa Brigade, which

can destroy her for a big value push.

Dandelion lets you draw your remaining gold and silver cards in round 3 after you thinned

out all your bronzes, Igni is in there for solid value, and Menno does four damage or

lets you destroy a spying unit.

Menno is best used together with Infiltrator, who toggles the spying mark onto the biggest

enemy unit so that Menno can destroy it.

Rainfarn is your spy access card, able to get you Iris, Joachim, Cantarella or Emissaries.

Typically you keep him for round 3 to do a big push together with Joachim, but getting

Cantarella in round 2 may be crucial as well.

Especially if the opponent plays spy from hand.

In that case, Rainfarm will prevent them from drypassing because you are 5 points ahead.

Now let's look at the Mulligan.

Cards you want to keep are: Caellach and Decoy to get those Emissaries

onto the board and to start your spy chains.

One Emissary if you have Caellach or two Emissaries if you don't, to be on the safe side.

Impera Enforcers are good to have on hand because you need to play them pro-actively,

while Brigades also work in retrospect.

2 Vicovaro Medics on hand are good as well, so you don't run into the risk of getting

presented with two of them after playing an Emissary.

And gold cards are always useful.

Cards you want to get rid off are: Impera Brigade, since you want to play them

through Emissaries.

Infiltrator, because you want to look it up in the later gameplay to mark a good Menno

target and there is simply no space for them in your starting hand.

Get rid of Cantarella, Iris or Joachim if you have all three of them so that Rainfarm

can pull one of them in round 3.

The general idea of your round 1 mulligan is to enable you to get all those bronzes

on the board, so you are sure to draw your big cards in round 2 & 3 and to enable Assire

to put back exactly the cards you need to re-access them.

This ties closely into our gameplay plan.

We split our gameplay into two phases: The first one is our Spy-Engine and thinning

phase and the second one is our big unit push phase.

In the ideal case, we can split the rounds into two, each one featuring exactly one of

those phases.

Round 1, therefore, would be our Spy-Engine & thinning phase.

We put Enforcers onto the board and then create as many Emissaries as possible through Caellach,

Emyr into Caellach and Decoy onto Caellach, therefore pulling even more Emissaries out

of the deck.

Through Enforcers we then kill some Emissaries, so we can resurrect them with Vicovaro Medics

to thin even more.

If you have two or more Vicovaro Medics left in the deck, then I would hurry to get an

Emissary into the enemy's graveyard, so you don't run into a situation where you draw

both Vicovaro Medics, and you don't have any targets for them.

You can also use Nauzicaa Brigade to kill off an Emissary, so it becomes strengthened

for round 3.

Some Phase 1 tips: Using Infiltrator onto a 7 point unit enables

Nauzicaa Brigade to hit for full value.

If your Impera Brigades and Enforcer engines survive until later stages of round 1 and

you are ahead, then you can consider playing Cantarella, because it will trigger all your

engines getting you into a position where you have card advantage and are ahead.

Either the enemy plays their spy as well, getting you ahead even more, or you'll secure

yourself card advantage for round 3 and maybe pushing the enemy out of the round.

Igni in a short round 3 often struggles to get targets, so use it to push even more in

round 1.

Round 2 we either drypass or play Assire if the enemy drypasses, to get Nauzicaa Brigade

back into our deck and to mess with the enemies graveyard, by (for example) putting our dead

Cantarella back into their deck.

Round 3 is our big unit push phase.

Iris is one of our biggest point generators, so we need to set up the board for her.

At this point, we should only have one or two bronze cards left in the deck, ideally

the one we put back with Assire.

Therefore Dandelion: Poet will have a very very high chance to draw us our gold and silver

cards while putting another Iris target on the board.

As soon as we have three units on the board, we play Iris (or get her with Rainfarm) and

then follow up with Joachim (or Rainfarn into Joachim) to get Nauzicaa Brigade from the

deck, making this a 19 point play alone.

Also, Nauzicaa Brigade will destroy our Iris, further buffing up our units by 25 points

in total.

If you think that the enemy can destroy Iris, then you should wait to play her until you

have enough units on the board.

Keeping Menno Coehoorn is a good idea as well because sometimes enemies try to buff up Iris,

so nauzicaa brigade can't kill her, but Menno will always be able to trigger Iris.

Menno is our second big value push card, by using Infiltrator to mark a big target like

a big resurrected Greatsword and then using Menno to kill it.

Summarized, we would like to have following cards in the deck/hand in round 3:

Dandelion: Poet, Rainfarn, Menno Coehoorn, Joachim, Iris, Infiltrator, Nauzicaa Brigade,

Vicovaro Medic.

I've added the Vicovaro Medic because he provides us two Iris targets and he always finds a

decent target to resurrect in the enemy's graveyard providing you with decent points.

Let's look at the matchups and how we need to adapt to them:

Greatsword This is probably one of our best matchups.

You can disrupt their Ship-Greatswords engines by placing your Emissaries in between them

saving some damage from the Enforcers.

Instead, use your Enforcer shots to kill off a newly placed Greatsword to further delay

their setup.

If their setup gets disrupted by your Emissaries and Enforcers you will be victorious in a

long round, so fully commit to that.

Also, keep Vicovaro Medics to steal their big buffed up Greatswords before they can

play them.

If you won round 1, you should do this in round 2 already, so they can't use their Freya

in round 3 before you can utilise your Medic.

Veterans They have consistent high-value output, but

in a long round, your spies can overtake them.

Get your Enforcers onto the board early, so the chance of surviving their Tuirseach Hunter

damage is higher because often they want to finish their Veteran setup first, even though

Hunters would receive the buff afterwards as well.

Like in the Greatsword matchup, keep your Vicovaro Medics so that you can destroy their

graveyard in combination with Assire.

If they can't resurrect their big units in round 3, you will have an easy time with your

big plays.

Coinflip Elves Theoretically, they will have a better long

round, but if your Enforcers can kill off all the little elves like Elven Scout, Elven

Mercenaries, Wardancer and such, then Vanguards won't find that many targets to buff, giving

you the edge again.

Your enemy knows that, which is why they will utilise Ida and Cleaver to get rid of your

Enforcers.

If they manage to do that and already have dropped a lot of Elves including Aelirenn,

then consider passing, because your setup is not complete yet and they already have

wasted some elves.

In late game try to line up some Elves with Enforcer and hit with a double Igni.

Alchemy Alchemy is a pain to play against because

your Enforcers won't be able to stick to the board.

If you are on red, then get all your Enforcers out and let them be killed by their Witchers.

Then you can pass one card up, enabling you to start fresh without the extra points the

enemy has already gathered.

Before you play your Impera Brigades assure that there are three spying enemies, so they

are not able to kill them with only one witcher.

Mirror Match The key is to get more Enforcers onto the

board than your opponent, so get them out asap and use the shots fired from your Enforcer

to kill off the ones of your enemy's.

Use your Vicovaro Medic to steal the enemy's Nauzicaa Brigade to deny them some points.

Putting back your Cantarella from their graveyard into their deck can hinder your enemy's round

3 strategies if they run cards like Dandelion Poet or Vilgefortz.

Handbuff They have some really good value plays, but

you can defeat them in a long round.

Get your Enforcers on the board, while they are doing their setup and then push with as

many spy engines on the board as possible to secure the round.

If your enemy passes after your Enforcer setup, then pass and play a long round 2, where you

push as much as possible.

You should get enough points onto the board to bleed your enemy of the handbuffed unit,

which will win you round 3, so keep a big push tool like Rainfarn, Joachim or such.

Use your Enforcers to line up your enemy's units and hit a double Igni, but Igni onto

a single spotter is also okay if you use Vicovaro Medic to revive it on your side of the board

for a 24 point play.

Deathwish Get your Enforcers out early, before an enemy

Cyclops can get rid of it.

Other than that, you can follow the normal gameplan, because in a long round you should

be able to win it.

Beware that Cyclops can easily trigger Iris for you, so only play her, when you have five

units on the board.

Nekkers Playing Emissaries in front of Vran Warrior

allows you to use Enforcers onto a different target and also forces your enemy to play

more Consume units to complete their setup.

Push in round 1, because your engines provide really good value, and your spies will disrupt

them.

If the enemy passes, then push round 2 and bleed them of as many key cards as possible.

Use Assire in round 3 to disrupt their graveyard and to put Slyzard targets back into the deck,

so they may be able to play Nekkers, but they are not able to eat all of them.

Henselt Use your Emissaries to destroy Crewmen Pockets

and play Enforcers early, because Henselt will try to focus them down.

Chaining spies enable your Enforcers to get rid of some of the machines, and by using

Enforcer Damage, you can line up a lot of machines so that you can hit a big Igni.

Don't play Cantarella until Thaler has been played or Dun Banner will jump out of his

deck.

Other than that, play the long round and utilise your big value push tools to overpower Bloody

Baron.

Foltest Swarm A long round is good for you and your opponent,

but they will out-tempo you in the end, so pass after you thinned through your Bronzes

and you feel a Yennefer or Foltest is about to hit.

If they play Siege Support, then get rid of them asap, because they will also buff up

all your spies played onto the board.

Enforcers can help here, but also Infiltrator in combination with Nauzicaa Brigade.

Assire can put back their Blue Stripe Commandos to prevent Dijkstra from creating value.

And now let's look at an example match!

MEAL PREP for SPRING | healthy recipes + PDF guide - Duration: 15:21.

- Hey, guys, and welcome back to my channel.

You absolutely loved my first meal prep video,

so today I am back with another,

and this time it's meal prep for spring.

I try to eat seasonally as much as possible,

and right now there is so much fresh produce

in the markets, including asparagus, and cucumbers,

and arugula, and spring onions, and blueberries.

If you watched my first meal prep video,

then you know that my approach is to prepare

ingredients over full meals for more flexibility

and nutrient variety throughout the week.

It's sort of like having a mini buffet bar in your fridge.

But at the same time, when you do whip up a meal,

you want it to be fast and easy and on your plate

or table in under five minutes.

So in today's video, I'll show you how to meal prep

11 ingredients, and give you a few ideas

of meals and recipes that you can make throughout the week.

But as always, feel free to adapt the quantities

or flavors to best suit your personal preference.

Alright, let's dive in, and I'll show you

what I've meal prepped this week.

You should always start your meal prep by writing down

what you'd like to make to be most efficient

with your time, but for this meal prep,

I've actually made something special for you.

I've created a PDF guide, so you don't have to worry

about taking any notes, and I'll tell you how

to download this at the end of the video.

Cashew milk is my favorite nut milk,

and it was actually one of the very first videos

I created on this channel.

It's super easy to make, but you do need

to soak your cashews overnight.

I've already gone ahead and done that,

so now I'll give them a good rinse and add them

to my Vitamix.

Then, I'll add four cups of water, a tablespoon

of maple syrup for a little natural sweetness,

a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt,

and then blend it all together.

The great thing about cashew milk is that you don't

have to strain it, and that means that we can use it

right away to make our second ingredient, which is

chia seed pudding.

Chia pudding is such an easy breakfast and can be

jazzed up with so many different flavors.

To make the chia pudding, all we have to do

is add half a cup of chia seeds to one of our glass locked

storage containers, and add two cups of our freshly made

cashew milk.

Give it a stir and set it aside, but we'll want

to give it one more stir in about 10 to 15 minutes,

once the seeds have started to gel and absorb

the liquid.

Then, we can pour our remaining cashew milk

into a glass jar, like my favorite Weck juice jar,

and stir that in the fridge for cereals or lattes

throughout the week.

For this week's starch or grain, I'm preparing wild rice,

and if you've never had wild rice before,

it's got this delicious nutty flavor and chewy texture

to it, which makes it perfect for salads.

So we'll rinse the rice, and add that to a pot with water

and set our timer.

The rice can take 40 to 50 minutes to cook,

but we'll check on it again after about 40 minutes.

Next, we'll cook up some asparagus and shrimp,

and since both will only take about two to three minutes,

we're going to cook them at the same time.

To prepare the asparagus, give it a good wash

and break off the woody stems.

Then, wash your shrimp as well and set it aside.

Fill a wide saute pan with water for the asparagus,

and fil a pot of water for the shrimp,

and then bring both of those to a boil.

Add the asparagus and shrimp, but do keep a close eye

on them so that you don't accidentally overcook them,

because again, they'll only take about two to three minutes.

So while they're cooking, create a quick ice water bath,

and set that to the side.

Once they're done, use tongs to remove the asparagus,

and a skimmer to remove the shrimp,

and let them fully cool in the ice water.

Then, drain them in a colander, transfer them

to your favorite storage containers,

and place them in the fridge.

(gentle music)

At this time, I'll give my chia pudding

one more quick stir to make sure there's no chia seeds

stuck to the bottom, then place this in the fridge as well.

With so many fresh blueberries in the store right now,

I wanted to take full advantage, so I'm preparing

a quick blueberry puree to add to my chia pudding.

I'll add a pint of fresh blueberries and a tablespoon

of honey or maple syrup to a pot,

and cook them on medium heat for about 10 minutes.

As the blueberries cook, they'll start to break down

and turn into more of a sauce or puree.

I'll also help this by using the back of my spoon

to smush and break up the blueberries as well.

Then, transfer the blueberry puree to a storage container

and place it in the fridge.

At this point, our wild rice should also be done,

so give that a stir and transfer it

to a storage container as well.

(gentle music)

One of the things you guys asked for after the first video

was more sauces and dressings, so today we'll whip up

an almond butter dipping sauce, and it will go perfectly

with one of the meals I have in mind.

Now, you could use peanut butter as well,

but since I had a fresh batch of homemade almond butter

in my fridge, that's what I'm using today.

So we'll add half a cup of almond butter,

five tablespoons of tamari or coconut aminos,

a table spoon of black strap molasses,

which is always a great flavor enhancer,

two teaspoon of toasted sesame oil,

and two teaspoons of white wine vinegar to a bowl.

To that, we'll add the juice of a fresh line

and a few tablespoons of water, just to thin it out.

Then whisk all of that together until it's nice and creamy,

and place it in the fridge.

(upbeat music)

For a simple yet vibrant and spring appropriate

salad dressing, we'll make a quick and easy

lemon vinaigrette.

Add one third cup of olive oil to a bowl,

along with one or two cloves of minced garlic

and the juice from two large lemons.

To that, we'll add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard,

a half a teaspoon of honey, and a pinch of salt and pepper,

then whisk it all together and pour it

into a storage container.

(upbeat music)

One of the example meals I'm going to show you here

in just a minute calls for julienned carrots and cucumbers,

so that's what I'm preparing next.

Just peel and slice two carrots in half,

then cut each half into slices, and stack a few

of the slices to create thin julienne cuts.

We'll do the same thing with the cucumber,

and it's totally up to you if you want to keep or discard

the julienne cuts that contain the seeds.

To store both of these items, we'll add

a damp paper towel to the bottom of the storage container

and add the veggies on top.

Because we're not storing these in water,

as we did in the last meal prep video,

they won't last quite as long, but they'll definitely last

for the first two or three days, which is when

I plan to eat them.

Last on our list is slicing up some red cabbage,

so just slice up as much as you think you'll need,

then cut it in half, break it apart with your fingers,

and place it in a storage container.

You could also use a spiralizer, as I've showed you

in my spiralizer beginner's guide video,

to make really easy work of this as well.

Alright, so now that you have these 11 ingredients prepped,

let me give you a few ideas of what you could make

in just a few minutes by combining them with ingredients

from your fridge or pantry.

For breakfast, make an easy chia pudding

with a few dollops of blueberry puree and almond butter.

It tastes exactly like a PB&J sandwich,

except we've turned ours into breakfast,

and we'll top it with fresh berries and a sprinkle

of chopped pistachios for a little burst of color.

For a morning drink, it's easy to whip up

a matcha latte with our homemade cashew milk.

Just add a teaspoon of matcha to a cup,

along with collagen or any other adaptogens

you might want to add, and a smidge of boiling water.

Then whisk it together until it's frothy.

At this point, I do 50/50 of water and cashew milk,

but you could add all cashew milk as well.

So heat up the cashew milk, and use an electric frother

to froth it up, then pour it into your cup

for a delicious matcha latte.

(upbeat music)

For lunch or an afternoon snack, it's easy to whip up

Vietnamese spring rolls with our prepared ingredients.

Just slice a few shrimp in half and set those aside.

Then, we'll take some rice paper wrappers,

and I've linked this brand below,

and submerge them in a bowl or dish of warm water.

They only need a few seconds to soak,

as they'll continue to soften up

while you're adding ingredients.

So add a layer of baby spinach or lettuce,

some of our julienned carrots and cucumbers,

a few slices of red cabbage, one or two asparagus,

and some mung bean sprouts, and then roll it up.

Now I find that it's easiest to roll away from you,

as you can continue to tuck it and roll at the same time,

and you do want them as tight as possible.

When you're about two third of the way rolled up,

lay down three or four shrimp halves,

and then continue rolling.

For this version, I'm not tucking the ends

of the rice paper wrapper in, as it's kind of fun

to see the veggies poke out the sides,

but if you'd like them more fully contained,

you can do so.

I also like them extra long, as that means

I get a few extra dips in the almond butter dipping sauce,

which is always a good thing.

So let me show you this one more time.

(upbeat music)

Next, we'll make a super easy and delicious

wild rice and arugula salad.

The full recipe for this salad is on my website,

but I'm just eyeballing a single portion here.

So add some baby arugula to a bowl,

along with a few spoonfuls of wild rice.

To that, we'll quickly dice up a cucumber,

and if you're wondering why I prepped

the julienned cucumber but not this,

it's because I knew I'd eat the julienned cucumber

within the first few days, and to be honest,

dicing is much easier and faster to do on the fly.

Then, we'll slice up a spring onion and add that

to the bowl, along with a few fresh mint leaves

that we've chopped up.

Add a small handful of dried cranberries or raisins,

a sprinkle of sliced almonds, a little salt and pepper,

and a drizzle of your homemade lemon vinaigrette.

Toss it all together, and enjoy this light and healthy,

yet filling and hearty salad.

(upbeat music)

For another spring appropriate salad,

we'll make a shrimp, asparagus, and avocado salad,

and this one also comes together easy.

Just slice a few asparagus and add them to a bowl

along with baby spinach and a few shrimp.

Slice up a spring onion, some fresh parsley,

and half an avocado, and add that to the bowl.

Then, season with salt and pepper, drizzle

with your lemon vinaigrette, and gently toss it

altogether for a salad that looks and tastes amazing.

(upbeat music)

It should come as no surprise to you that we'll finish

off today with a macro bowl, because macro bowls

are always my fridge clean out salads

at the end of the week.

Add spinach or arugula to a bowl along with wild rice

and shrimp.

Slice up a few asparagus and half an avocado,

and place those on top of your bed of greens,

then dice up some of your red cabbage,

and you can also add carrots and cucumber

if you have any of those left, and a small handful

of sprouts.

For a little extra crunch, add some white and black

sesame seeds, then drizzle with either your lemon

vinaigrette or your almond butter dipping sauce,

as both are great on this.

And there you have it, an easy shrimp macro bowl.

(upbeat music)

Now, as I promised at the beginning, I've created

a PDF guide of this spring meal prep for you.

It should hopefully make your life a little bit easier

in the kitchen, because not only does it have

all of the cook times listed and storage reminders,

but it also links to the full recipe

on downshiftology.com if one exists.

And because you guys loved my first meal prep video

so much, I went ahead and created one of these PDF guides

for that meal prep video as well.

You can find the link to download both guides

in the description box below, and if you haven't yet

watched my first meal prep video, you can do that

right here, and watch my video on my favorite

meal prep storage containers.

SIMPLE PRESENT/ DEFINITE GUIDE WITH PDF AND MP3 FOR SUBSCRIBERS / ACTIVATE THE SUBTITLES (CLASS 22) - Duration: 18:14.

My name is Rodger Koller

and this video is going to be very quick

This is the Basic Course, 2.0- Class 22

and today we're going to talk about the Simple Present Tense

or as some people call it:

The Present Simple

I want to talk about the simple present, but

ALL ABOUT IT

I want this video to be a reference for you

so if you're studying the simple present

for a test or for something in your life

it doesn't matter when

you can come back to this video and watch it again

so I really want this video to become reference

but I really want this video to be quick

so I really need

that you follow the method of this channel

THOROUGHLY

You just have to watch this video, first with the subtitles in your language

so please, activate the subtitles

in your language first

and then you should watch it again but now with the subtitles in English

because then you can learn different vocabulary and expressions

and then you should watch it the third time, without subtitles

so that you can practice your listening skills

and by watching it three times, I'm sure

that you'll understand the simple present perfectly

because I'll really go straight to the point

Yes, I'm going to speak fast. I'll go straight to the point

because I really want this video to be quick

And I don't want to waste your time, so

without any further ado, let's get started

So, the simple present, Oh! By the way!!!

I have to tell you that I'm going to talk about all the verb tenses

I'm ging to talk about all the verb tenses in English

I'm going to talk about all of them

Each one of them will be in a single video, so

I'll make one video for each verb tense

because then you can go back and watch them as reference

when you study them

This video is part of the basic course, because in the basic course, I have to teach the Simple Present

but even if you are an advanced student

and you want to remember the rules for the simple present

You can come back to this video

and watch it again

but following the method

and it's extremely important

that you download the pdf file for this class

because I'm going to speak fast

I'm going to give you some examples, but

in the pdf file there will be a complete and thorough explanation of the simple present

with the definition with a very serious and organized explanation

and with more examples and exercises for you to practice

so you can watch this video and read the pdf file

and then I'm sure... You will understand the simple present tense

for the rest of your life

So, now without any further ado, let's really get started!

The simple present tense represents two simple things

The first thing is ROUTINE

so, if you're talking about routine, you are using the simple present

For example, I'm going to talk about my routine

I wake up at 5 am, I brush my teeth

and sometimes I take a shower

when it's really hot

but when it's cold, I don't take showers

then I have breakfast. I normally eat four bananas every morning

and I drink Toddynho with vodka

after that I take a shower again...Sometimes...Sometimes I play video game

but then I go to work. I work from 9 am to 9 pm

as a translator

and then I come back to my house

and I work more

in my house because I make videos at night

so on, so forth

so you talk about your routine

when you talk about your routine

you're using the simple present

so, it's really simple!

Rodger!

Yes?

it's really SIMPLE because it is the SIMPLE present

it is the SIMPLE present

the SIMPLE present tense

SIMPLE

Yes, you're right about that

and we also use the simple present to talk about current facts

so if you talk about facts of the Universe

of facts about your life or facts about yor mother's life

it doesn't matter

if you're talking about facts

you're using the simple present

so...Some facts about my life:

I have two cats

I am extremely handsome

My laptop is black

I'm a professional translator and a teacher

I can dance very well

I can swim

so these things are in the present but they don't represent my routine. They are facts about my life

Tell me a fact about yourself

A fact about myself?

The fact is...I love you

Let's continue

Ok, now let's divide this video into three parts

Affirmative, Interrogative and Negative

Let's start with the affirmative

I play golf on Saturdays

So...It's my routine...It's part of my habits

I play golf on Saturdays

In the present the verb is hardly ever conjugated

Because.....Pay attention to the verb "play"

I play...You play...We play...They play...

The kids play

Notice that the verb "play" doesn't change

The verb itself is not conjugated

There is only one moment that we need to conjugate the verb in the present

It's when we talk about another person

but when we talk about only one person...For example:

I play football...If we talk about my brother

I say "My brother plays football"

So, I'm talking about another person

but only about one person

because if I talk about two people

the verb is not conjugated. For example:

I play football. Marco and Johnathan play football

The verb doesn't change

when I talk about two or more people

But when I talk about another person

but only one person

We have to add an S

to the verb... I play football...Antonio plays football

Antonio plays...So...This "plays" is representing plural!!!?!

No!

On the contrary!

It's singular!

When I say "I play football"...It's singlar, right?

When I say "They play football"...It's plural, isn't it?

Because THEY play...THE KIDS play football

So, there's no difference

between "you play"..."They play"

The verb is the same

YES! But when I talk about another person

Example...Antonio

Jessica

But only one person

We add an S to the verb. For example:

Example: Antonio plays football. He plays football...

Jessica "plays"... Because she is another person and singular

Basically, for he, she and it, we have to add an S to the verb

So, I play football/ You play football/ He plays football/

She plays footbal/ It plays football/ We play football

You play football/ They play football

So, basically we have to add an S to the verb if we're talking about he, she or it

Yes, you just have to add an S

an ASS? I love it!

I'm not talking about that kind of ass

But you have to pay attention because sometimes you don't have to add only one S

Most of the time we just add an S to the verbs

but sometimes we have to add an ES

So, for example, when the verbs end in o, s and x or h

we have to add an ES, for example:

I watch TV/ You watch TV/ He watches TV/ She watches TV

It watches TV but They watch TV

You watch TV

We watch TV

So for he, she, it ... We add an ES

because "watch" ends in H

So verbs that end in H, O, S or X, we have to add an ES

SO, for example... I kiss very well

My girlfriend kisses my body all the time

She kisses my body

I kiss her body

But, nobody kisses my body

Exactly!

There's another characteristic for the affirmative

it's when the verbs end in Y

For example "play, cry, study, stay...etc"

so on, so forth

Look! I say: "I play football"

He plays football

She plays football

I study Japanese

She studies Japanese

It is different when I use "She"

Ihave to remove the Y and add an IES

So, I study...She studies

Icry every day

He cries every day

But, I play football

She plays football

Ok, I'm a little bit confused now

because for "play" you just added an S

But for "study"

you removed the Y and you added IES, why?

Good question...It happens because

Pay attention to the verb "study"

The letter before Y is a consonant

so when the letter right before the Y

when it's a consonant, you have to remove this Y

and add IES

When we're talking about he, she or it

but if before the Y, there is a vowel

you just add an S

For example: "I play" , "He plays"

I cry / He cries

But seriously, download the PDF fil for this class

and read the thorough explanation for the simple present

many times and do the exercises there

Now, the interrogative form:

So, for questions in English in the simple present, we have to use auxiliaries

and for auxiliaries we normally use

and we can also use the verb "to be"

I'm going to ask my student some questions using the verb "to be"

Are you Brazilian?

Yes, I am

Is your mother Brazilian?

Yes, she is.

Is your father Brazilian?

No, he isn't.

Is your sister a hot girl?

Yes, she is. She is delicious.

Did you notice how I asked questions with the verb "to be" in front of the person?

So, I used the verb to be.

I'm going to make another video about the verb "to be" because it's a special verb

but, basically that!

and normally we ask questions using:

We use DOES for he / she / it

But pay attention to how we conjugate the verbs in the questions

Do you live in England?

Does your father live in England?

My father lives in England.

Do you like chocolate?

I love chocolate

Rodger, your skin looks like chocolate!

Yes, my skin looks like chocolate!

and my skin is delicious.

Your skin is delicious.......... How do you know that?

I don't know how I know that, I just know it

but notice that when I asked using he, she or it...

My questions were with:

Rodger!

You're saying "Does she like...?"

Shouldn't we conjugate the verb for he, she, it... Example: "Does she likes?"

No! Because there's something very nice!

For the interrogative form, we don't conjugate the verbs at all

So, we don't conjugate the verbs in the interrogative form

only in the affirmative form

The only thing we have to pay attention

is that we have to use *DOES* for he, she, it

and *DO* for I, you, we, you, they

But please download the pdf file because there is going to be a complete

and detailed explanation of why it happens

It's important to bear in mind that we just conjugate the verbs in the affirmative form

because in the interrogative form, we don't conjugate them

Now, let's talk about the negative form

We don't conjugate the verbs in the negative form

So, for the interrogative and negative forms, we don't change the verb for anybody

It's the same verb for everybody

only in the affirmative form we have to add an S to the verbs

Now I'm going to give you some examples for he negative form

I don't take a shower every day

You don't take a shower every day

and you know that

He doesn't ake a shower every day

I don't watch TV every day

You don't watch TV every day

He doesn't watch TV every day

Pay attention that the verb doesn't change:

The verb doesn't change

The verb doesn't change

it doesn't matter if it is he, she, it, we, you, they, I

It doesn't matter

The verb doesn't change in the negative form

We don't conjugate the verbs in the negative form

You just have to pay attention that in the negative, we use DON'T for I, you, we, you and they

and we use DOESN'T for He, she and it

That's the only difference

But it's very simple right?

We just have to remember that we just conjugate the verbs in the affirmative form

Please, download the PDF file for this class

and read the complete explanation and do the exercises

That I've prepared for you

I don't take a shower every day, because I like it dirty

I remember

Ok, man. But tell me something different, tell me something else that you don't do...

Well, I don't drink milk every day

I only drink milk on Saturdays

Today is Saturday!

Can I drink milk in your house?

Yes, why not?

But I'm going to mix it with Toddynho

and a little bit of vodka

Of course, we can also use the verb "to be" for the negative form

and the verb "to be" in the negative is:

For example:

I'm not Chinese

It's a fact

and I'm using the verb TO BE in the negative

He isn't Japanese

She isn't Australian

But I'm going to make a special video about the verb TO BE, because it's a very special verb

and it's different...So, basically this video was about

everything you need to know about the Simple Present

and of course, you need to download the PDF file for extra explanations and

exercises. Please subscribe to the channel and sownload the PDF file for this class

Also, download the MP3 file from this class

Koh Chang Island - PRISTINE SEAFOOD FISHING VILLAGE and Spicy Curries | Food Travel Guide! - Duration: 24:30.

- Good morning I hope you're having an awesome day.

It's Mark Wiens, I'm in Koh Chang Island which is in Trat,

in the eastern part of Thailand.

This is day seven of our Eastern Thai food and travel tour.

But it's a jungle cover rustic island

with beautiful beaches.

We're gonna drive around the eastern side of the island

and explore some of the fishing villages.

We're gonna get some amazing scenery,

we're gonna go see some beaches

and of course we are gonna search out some

incredibly delicious food.

And especially some seafood.

And I'm gonna share all the food and everything

that we do with you today in this video right now

so, we're getting ready to leave it's about 7 a.m.

(uptempo music)

so it is really cool that we're able to

have our car here in Koh Chang

so that we can drive around.

This gonna be an awesome day.

Just quickly to tell you, we are staying on a beach

in an area called, Kai Bae.

And this is one of the most,

this entire western side of Koh Chang Island

is the main side where you'll find most hotels,

most guest houses, most life.

But the eastern side is known to be more quiet,

more peaceful, a little more rustic.

So that's the side we're especially gonna focus on.

But really we're gonna focus on the food today

(uptempo music)

We just drove down the road a few kilometers.

We're just before Klong Prao,

which is the next kinda beach area.

But there's a restaurant and this is where we need to stop

to eat breakfast before we move on.

(speaking in foreign language)

This is one of those spots

where you can go down the line of pots and open the cover

and see what they have for the day.

I'll let you in on a little secret.

Yesterday, we took the day off from filming

and actually we ate at this same place.

We were just driving pass,

I saw that lots of van drivers and tok-tok drivers

were stopping here to eat.

And I knew it was a place

we needed to stop to eat for lunch too.

So I'm glad they're open this morning.

This, they actually serve Southern Thai food.

Like not this region,

but from the southern peninsula of Thailand

and their food is awesome.

It's also halal food.

(speaking in foreign language)

Oh, this place is absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, and I ordered actually the same exact dishes

that I ordered yesterday because they're so good.

This is the dish.

Almost everybody eating here orders this.

It's just a beautiful beef soup.

The chunks of beef, the fresh chilies in there,

look at that, just entire chilies in there.

The fresh onions.

Ah, okay let me just take a bit.

Oh, and the crispy fried shallots.

Oh, that is melt in your mouth beef.

And the stock is so beefy and so rich and beautifully salty.

And then you can taste the herbs

that have been boiled down in the soup,

the Kaffir lime leaves, cilantro roots in there as well.

The part that I love the most

is that they combine fresh

uncooked onions and chilies and lime juice,

as well as some tomatoes in there.

And then they pour the boiling soup over those vegetables.

So you've got both cooked ingredients

as well as raw ingredients,

which gives it that punch of flavor.

And those crispy shallots as well.

Man that's good.

Next dish I got is

(speaks in foreign language)

this is beef in a dry curry.

So you can see that curry paste

which is just kinda caked up on the meat there

with Kaffir lime leaves.

It's absolutely stunning.

You've got that cake,

that crust of chili curry paste on there.

I love it.

Another thing that's great about Southern Thai food

is you've always got a plate of

(speaks in foreign language)

which is a plate of raw vegetables and some shrimp paste.

And I'm going right in.

This is white turmeric, I believe.

Yeah, that's your wake up call in the morning.

Finally thing I got her is some

(speaks in foreign language)

which is dried, sun dried fish,

and then deep fried.

And she said she makes this all herself.

Oh, look at that fish.

That's seriously good stuff.

You can taste that it's sort of been dehydrated in the sun.

But the dehydrating the

(speaks in foreign language)

meaning one sun, one day of sunshine,

it gives it a more unique texture.

Like a little bit, slightly turning to jerky but not quite.

(bright music)

There's nothing like a 7:30 a.m, morning meal

that breaks your sweat of the day

and just leaves you like,

shirt slightly dripping, but feeling outrageously satisfied.

And now that we've finished with breakfast

we can continue driving.

(uptempo music)

oh man, this side of the island is so incredibly relaxing.

We are stopping at a coffee shop.

It is called, The Coffee Home.

It's right along the ocean.

You can sit, you can relax.

They have a garden.

Oh, this is gorgeous.

This is great.

Coffee is okay.

Now we can officially start the day though.

(uptempo music)

The coffee here is okay, not amazing.

But the scenery, the atmosphere is spectacular.

That is one relaxing cup of coffee.

We're on our way, next,

I hope we're gonna go check out a coconut farm.

The place is called, The Organic Coconut Farm.

It's right on the side of the road.

It's just a beautiful little, kinda shack type of place.

So next up let's have a coconut.

(speaks in foreign language)

Yes, really nice.

And then, you'll find everything there.

Or I can write it down for you.

(speaking in foreign language)

Straight up blended coconut

and coconut meat and the coconut water.

Oh.

Oh, that's awesome.

Oh, and the foam, the coconut foam on top.

Oh, that's superb.

I like that he just doesn't add anything,

he just relies on the coconut.

It froths up, it's absolutely sensational.

(guitar music)

Oh, that's outstanding.

I mean, it's perfectly sweet

and a little bit sour and pure coconut.

(guitar music)

(speaking in foreign language)

Ying said I have to come check out the toilet.

Which is back here in the coconut field.

Oh, here it is in the palm branches.

Oh, and of course a banana tree

in the toilet that's awesome.

(Mark laughs)

This is the type of bathroom I've always dreamed about.

The banana trees, surrounded by palm branches.

And just check out this thrown.

The podium.

You can do your morning exercise at the same time.

Man, he's just an amazing friendly man.

Just passionate about the fruit that he's serving.

He will talk to you,

he will take care of you when you're sitting here,

and I fully support what he's doing.

I love it.

This is great.

Look at that, it's just like jelly.

Mm.

(speaking in foreign language)

- Delicious

- Really good.

It just melts in your mouth.

- Yeah.

- It's perfect.

Got some bananas.

And in Thai this is called a

(speaks in foreign language)

Which is just like a wild egg banana, or apple banana.

Mm.

(woman speaking foreign language)

It's so good.

Yeah, it's like orange on the inside.

Wow, that is a superb banana.

(speaking in foreign language)

He gave us some bananas on the way out.

His name is Khon Drani.

Pay him a visit.

He has amazing coconuts and fruit.

And what stands out even more than his fruit

is how nice and how friendly he is.

Next up, we are going to Salak Khok, which is a,

it's a fishing village in a bay with mangroves

it looks amazing.

We're gonna eat some seafood there.

(uptempo music)

This is an old fishing community.

It's gorgeous here.

We're at the pier.

We're gonna walk around.

Oh man, the peace and quiet,

the fishing boats, the bay, it's gorgeous.

Can you see that dog taking a nap on the sunken boat?

And the water is really peaceful

because it's an inlet, it's a bay that comes in.

If you go further that way, you'll get to the open sea.

But that's why this water remains so quiet.

It's covered in mangroves.

The mangroves are gorgeous as well.

And one of the main attractions here

is to kayak through the mangroves,

but then also just to come here

and just observe the traditional Koh Chang fishing village.

One of the ways to support this community

is to go to the seafood restaurant.

They have a seafood restaurant,

one main seafood restaurant here,

where the fishermen bring their catch.

And so you can go there to eat seafood.

It's very much community run and driven,

which is what I like about it.

So we're gonna go see what seafood they have for the day.

(uptempo music)

This place is relaxation on another level.

It's so relaxed in fact, that we came here

and the chef is actually,

the chef has gone somewhere,

so they had to call up the chef

to tell the chef to come back here to cook.

One of their specialties here is kang.

Which in English is mantis shrimp.

The giant alien looking mantis shrimp,

which I've already had a number of times in Trat.

It's very common, it's very popular.

And so they have a fresh tank of them.

Those are giant.

But something else I have to show you over here is,

giant arapaima, but you look over this,

look at how big that fish is.

That's like the size of a full grown man.

The food has all arrived.

It looks spectacular.

But, by all means the center piece,

the trophy of the meal are these mantis shrimp.

They're just, they're huge.

They're like a foot long.

They kept the whole heads and the tentacles

and the pinchers on them.

They're kinda scary looking.

And these are deep fried with garlic

and maybe some oyster sauce on top.

You can see those crunchy pieces of garlic.

Oh, it looks awesome.

It's definitely the length of your face.

Oh hello, nice to meet you.

And you can see that shell,

but then on the inside there that's the meat.

That's what you're going for.

It's kinda like lobster and shrimp mixed together.

Oh wow.

Oh, the freshness.

Oh, the garlic.

The taste is in between crab and shrimp and lobster

kinda all mixed together.

The texture is a little bit stringy but silky.

It's sweet.

They're superb.

Yeah this is the meat right out of the tall.

Look at how succulent, how moist and how juicy that is.

It's unbelievably delicious.

Another dish we got is called

(speaks in foreign language)

Normally in Thailand it's called

(speaks in foreign language)

but here they call it

(speaks in foreign language)

This is raw shrimp.

It's kinda like ceviche.

Raw shrimp in here, lots of lemon grass, chilies.

They put some carrots and cashews in here

and then it should be like a lime dressing.

And you can see the shrimp are just,

they're raw, but they're just cooked by the lime juice.

Mm.

Oh.

Oh, that's one of those dishes that like,

kinda punches you in the face.

Mm, it's sour, really nice and sour.

All that finely shaved lemon grass in there,

what gives it such a freshness.

There are chilies in there.

You've got the crunch of the cabbage and those carrots

and then the cashews.

Final dish we got here is

(speaks in foreign language)

And (speaks in foreign language)

is a common form of preserving.

It literally translate to one sun.

Meaning one day of sun.

So they hang out the seafood in the sun,

let it dry in the sun for one day.

And then it's normally deep fried.

So this area is known for their squid, one sun.

And so you can see it's sort of crinkled up,

it looks a little dry and then it's deep fried.

On second thought, after looking at it

I think it's cuttlefish.

Mm.

Mm.

Yeah, wow.

That is absolutely fantastic.

It has a little chewy factor to it.

But you taste the saltiness as it's slightly preserved.

It's like rubbery but not at the same time.

And just packed full of flavor.

Oh, this makes for the perfect,

like, chili, garlic platform.

What a perfect little ledge.

(guitar music)

Or with that sauce.

I'm going in for the tentacles.

In Thai they call it the

(speaks in foreign language)

like the mustache.

And I'm gonna use that mustache to kinda scrap up

as much chilies and garlic as possible.

(guitar music)

That's a bit to remember.

(guitar music)

That was a stunner of a seafood meal.

Do not let the emptiness,

and if there are no people here, just come here.

It's great.

The seafood is delicious and fresh.

Our bill was pretty expensive.

I mean it is pretty expensive.

But over half our bill was

because we had those mantis shrimp.

So if you don't have the mantis shrimp

you can really reduce your price.

And you can get some of the other dishes.

Alright and that,

hold on.

And that completes our visit to Salak Khok.

It's really a beautiful fishing village.

The seafood is great.

It's well worth your effort to come here.

From here we're driving down the coast and we're going to

(speaks in foreign language)

Which is, in English, it's Long Beach.

(Bright music)

See, at some parts the road was covered in jungle

and kinda overgrown.

Mika is taking a nap right now.

So they're waiting in the car.

We were planning to swim here

and play in the sand for a little while.

We'll see if Mika wakes up.

But for the time being let's go take a look

at the beach right now.

Yeah it is pretty spectacularly quiet and peaceful.

The water it's pretty nice.

There's kind of a lot of garbage though.

Too bad it's not a bit cleaner.

There are a couple of restaurants,

or maybe just one restaurant, kinda bar area.

People are chilling it's very peaceful though.

Very, a very relaxing place.

(uptempo music)

Mika's still sleeping so I think we're gonna continue on.

But I'm not all that impressed with Long Beach.

It's a nice beach, it's nice and quiet,

but looks like it's seen better days.

It's kinda run down, it's kinda dirty.

Lot's of garbage has washed up.

I was much more impressed with Salak Khok.

From here we're driving on to Salak Phet.

Which is the next bay.

And we made it to Salak Phet.

That was just a short drive.

But another beautiful drive.

The first place that we're stopping off here is

a mangrove plank walkway.

(speaking in foreign language)

This is already gorgeous.

But, part of the reason it's really cool is because

maybe it is abandoned, it is really quiet.

You do have to be a little careful

of the missing planks and the loose planks.

Wow, watch out, your head.

- Wow.

- Wow

You get to this certain point

and the mangroves really open up to an expansive greenery

with the mountains in the background.

It's really kinda a shame though

that they haven't maintained the walkway, the boardwalk,

because it's in pretty bad shape.

My tip is that you really stand in the center

where the concrete beams are.

But it's gorgeous and peaceful and quiet.

(uptempo music)

Made it to the very end of the platform.

Actually I thought it was supposed to go a loop trip.

Maybe, I don't know.

But this is definitely the end.

Heading back to the car and from here

we're gonna go check out one more seafood restaurant

within Salak Phet.

And I think that might conclude the day.

But, what a fantastic day it's already been.

(uptempo music)

There are two main seafood restaurants to choose from.

One is called Salak Phet Seafood and Resort.

And the other is called

(speaking in foreign Language)

Saeng Arun

So we're gonna try to go to Saeng Arun

it looks a little more low-key.

And we gotta walk down the little lane to get there.

You would sort of walk through their house,

which is like a full dock in of itself.

And then you get to the restaurant in the back here,

with the view of the sea.

Ah, yes.

(uptempo music)

Didn't order very much, just a couple of dishes.

I just wanted to try this place

and just to enjoy the view of Salak Phet bay.

And the, yeah, just the late afternoon scenery.

And it is spectacular.

We have the sea breeze.

This is called

(speaks in foreign language)

These are little carb cakes and then deep fried.

I'm not sure if they're encased in tofu skin.

I think they are.

Mm.

Mm.

Hmm-mm.

Maybe it's mixed with egg, but it's crab.

You can taste the onions and garlic in there

and then kinda crunchy skin.

And really what you're supposed to do

is dip it in this sweet plum sauce.

The sauce is very sweet.

But that does accompany well

the salty, pepperiness of the sausage.

The next dish we got is

(speaks in foreign language)

which is this type of stir-fry with hoi-shell,

which are the scallops.

And you can see it's full of,

ooh, there's some random leaves in there.

It's full of krachai, which is fingerroot.

These are little small, hopefully,

I think they're local scallops.

Onto the rice.

I love that fingerroot in there.

And then you've got the scallops

which have a bit of a bounce to them.

Oh yeah, we've got a hanger.

Oh, it just slide off.

(chuckles) Okay.

Okay, I'm moving on to one more dish.

This one is (speaks in foreign language)

and it looks to be like (speaks in foreign language)

which is mullet fish.

And it's a sour soup.

Wow, we got a bunch of heads down there.

Oh, there's a bunch of fish.

Oh okay, they're just small fish

but there's a lot of 'em.

And immediately you can smell that kinda sour

I think tamarind in there.

And there's ginger too.

Mm.

Mm.

Ooh, this soup is nice with the ginger.

Mm.

It could be a little more sour.

It's not that sour.

Mm, but the fish broth and the ginger.

The ginger actually, there's so much ginger in there

it sort of burns going down you throat.

That's delicious.

Yep, that's mullet.

Very firm.

(guitar music)

So that brings us to the end of this.

What a fantastic day it has been in Koh Chang,

along the east coast of the island.

The ending seafood meal it was okay,

but it wasn't spectacular to me.

For me the first seafood restaurant at Salak Khok

that was really the more, the awesome experience,

it just had more character to it too.

Another thing I wanted to tell you

before ending this Kho Chang travel, food, video guide.

Yesterday, I didn't film on video,

but I took a few clips.

We drove to end of the west side.

You can continue along,

it's a really windy, amazing road,

but then you get to a place called Bang Bao.

Which is a pier.

There's a lot of souvenir shops.

I didn't try any of the restaurants,

but it's a nice place to see as well.

And then if you continue on,

there's another beach called Khlong Kloi,

which is also a really

chilled out, really relaxing place

if you're looking for a place to stay for a few nights

that's gonna be peaceful and quiet,

that's also an amazing place.

So that's gonna do it for this one day tour of Koh Chang.

Visiting some of the sites and especially enjoying the food.

I will have the information of the things we did and ate

in the description box below,

as well as some links that you can check out.

And I wanna say

huge thank you for watching this video.

It's been a fantastic, fantastic day.

And we're just gonna drive back

to the other side of the island now.

So thank you very much for watching.

10 Things to do in Valencia, Spain Travel Guide - Duration: 14:56.

Continuing our travels through Spain, our next stop was Valencia.

Located along the coast, Spain's third-largest city is renowned for its mild climate, futuristic

constructions, and of course, paella, and after a few days in the city, we were wondering

what had taken us so long to visit?

We'll be the first to admit that our time in Valencia was mostly spent eating, but when

we weren't restaurant hopping or snacking our way through markets, we were exploring

the city on foot and the destination quickly rose to the top.

In this Valencia travel guide we're going to take you guys on a tour of the city and

show you some of the things you can do on your visit.

So of course before we can begin sightseeing we need food and we've gone all out here.

We found a tapas restaurant right across from the Central Market.

It is called Boatella Tapas.

Yeah.

And half the food has already arrived.

So we have it is literally right downstairs from where we are staying.

Yeah.

And we've noticed it is busy.

Oh more food.

More food.

Check that out.

(Speaking Spanish)

So you eat it with the skin.

You can take off the little tail part at the end but it is uh cruncy.

A little crispy.

You eat it with the skin.

Okay.

Muchas Gracias.

Right okay so now that we have more food at the table I'll actually talk about all of

the dishes.

There is still Paella coming but that will take about 20 minutes to make so we have the

fish croquettes.

Yes.

We have fried artichokes.

Yep.

We have patatas bravas which are like these spicy potatoes served with uh mayo.

Yep.

Um, so the shrimp.

Right.

And the calamari.

Yeah and that is not even the paella.

And the bread.

We've got a lot more to come.

And paella still to come.

So yeah, we're going to dig into this.

Alright time to try this.

So I've got 4 of the things and you know what I'm getting a shrimp too.

Okay.

I've got 5.

Now I've got 5.

So I'm going to try the calamari first.

Mmmm.

Oh man.

Is that good?

So good.

We're going to be eating a lot of seafood here I can tell.

Croquette.

These are the croquettes.

Mmmm.

Let me know if it is similar to the ones we had in Portugal.

The Bolinhos de bacalhau.

No very different.

Different?

Yes, these are very different.

These taste are saltier and they have more of a potato consistency.

Okay.

Than a fish consistency.

And these are the patatas bravas.

Patatas bravas.

Mmmm.

Nice and spicy.

Yeah.

And that is what they are supposed to look like.

Yep.

But they've been giving us fries with spicy sauce in some restaurants.

And apparently you are just supposed to bite right into it.

Yeah, well you can pull the legs off if you like.

Yeah.

Or not.

Hahaha.

It goes all in with Sam.

Oh that is my favorite one.

Yeah?

Gotta love the shrimp.

The gumbas.

Oh yeah.

Muy rico.

(Speaking Spanish)

After that delicious lunch, we were ready to go sightseeing around Valencia.

Our first stop: the Silk Exchange (Lonja de Seda - Llotja de la Seda).

So we've had our lunch.

Now we are ready for the sightseeing.

And our first stop is the Silk Exchange.

It was only 2 Euros to come and visit this place.

And yeah this used to be the sight of the silk trade here in Valencia.

And they have beautiful gardens with orange trees.

Amazing gothic architecture.

Yeah.

It is actually after walking around for a little bit it is a little bigger than what

I anticipated.

Yeah, for sure.

It is very good value.

It is only 2 Euros for general admission.

And 1 Euro for seniors which is what my parents fit under.

Haha.

From the exterior, this may look like a castle or a fortress, but this structure was actually

devoted to the mercantile transactions in the silk trade.

We visited the the Courtyard of the Orange Trees, the Trading Hall with its towering

columns that resemble palm trees, and then on the second floor the Consulate of the Sea,

where maritime and trade affairs were dealt with.

From there, we went on a bit of walk around the Old Quarter (Ciutat Vella) without much

of a destination in mind.

We saw some street art browsed through a few shops, and randomly stumbled across the narrowest

building in Europe - that's the terracotta one squished in the middle.

Alright Sam we have lots of schedules behind your head.

Give us a little run through.

Well I'm glad you're there to decipher them for us.

Well apparently if you want to climb this tower (El Miguelete) it is Monday through

Saturday 11 am to 1 pm.

And we've just missed it.

Yeah, we spent our 11 to 1 scarfing down food.

So we missed it.

Maybe we'll have a chance to come back but not entirely sure.

Since the tower was closed, we decided to stop by Horchateria Santa Catalina to try

a drink that you either love or hate: horchata.

We are going to drink horchata for the 1st time.

Yeah.

That basically makes up for not climbing the tower.

Because it is literally straight across the street.

This cold milky-looking drink is made with chufas, better known as tiger nuts in English.

It's especially popular during the warmer months as a way to cool down.

And because we wanted to do things right, we ordered a "farton" on the side, a long

spongy bread perfect for dipping.

Que the eyerolls.

Sam is fuss=potting because there was lipstick.

She was trying to make me use the lipstick straw and I find that really gross.

Okay anyways let's try it.

Over the top.

Hahaha.

No, I like this.

I am the only one out of the 4 who likes this.

I haven't tried it yet.

Okay you haven't tried it.

Okay one out of three that likes it.

It is pretty good to be honest.

Alright describe it.

Well it is really unique.

It is nutty.

Hahaha.

It is nutty.

What is it made with?

It is made from the nut of the tiger.

No, just kidding.

Tiger's nuts.

Tigernut.

There is one just out back.

Hahaha.

It just strolled in.

It is tasty.

Our next attraction was Valencia Cathedral (Iglesia Catedral-Basílica Metropolitana

de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Valencia - Església Catedral-Basílica Metropolitana

de l'Assumpció de la Mare de Déu de València), which is home to a Holy Chalice that has been

defended as the true Holy Grail.

If you have no clue what that means or this only brings back foggy memories of Indiana

Jones and the Last Crusade, the Holy Grail is the cup that Jesus used during the last

supper and there are a few contenders scattered around the world.

What we do know is that the chalice in Valencia Cathedral has Arabic inscriptions dates between

the 4th century B.C. to the 1st century AD, and has been used by many popes.

So if you're coming all the way to Valencia, this is a neat piece of history to see up

close.

Okay so we just finished visiting Valencia Cathedral and I've got to say it was impressive.

It is a bit of a pricey attraction.

It is 8 Euros per person.

But it is home to the Holy Chalice uh which is kind of cool and they also have a whole

bunch of little chapels within the cathedral that kind of go all around.

It is almost like a museum within a church.

Yeah.

it is very impressive.

Yeah.

Like I'm not always the hugest fan of going inside churches.

Even Sam enjoyed it.

Haha.

I enjoyed it.

It was very good.

If there's one dish that we had to try in Valencia, it was paella.

Many non-Spaniards view paella as Spain's national dish, but Spaniards will tell you

this is a regional Valencian dish.

There are many variations that can be found across Spain, but we ordered it the Valencian

way.

(Speaking Spanish)

Ah okay.

Okay.

Alright guys so the food is here and we are going to start off with the Valencian Paella

(Valenciana).

Si.

And let's talk about the ingredients.

So this one comes with chicken.

Yep.

Rabbit meat.

Yep.

And it also has snails and it has green beans and it has cardo beans and what is this rosemary

right here?

Yes.

This looks so good.

I'm going to scoop some up.

And the rice is cooked in saffron I believe.

Yes, that gives it its yellow color.

Yes.

And we should also talk about the size of the pan.

So the waiter was just explaining like this looks massive.

It is only for 2 people but what they do is if they have more people eating out of it

like 3 or 4 they just keep adding more rice and it will be thicker.

So it is thicker?

Yeah.

So this is a bit thin.

But this is for 2.

Yeah, and we have another one so.

It looks a bit excessive.

Haha.

So yeah we're just going to dig right in.

Just grab a little bit of meat.

I imagine this must be the chicken.

And let's try this.

Mmmm.

It is really nice.

The meat is crispy and golden.

So is the rice.

I love it when you get the golden rice like that.

Mmmmhmm.

That is the best part for sure.

We'll be scraping the pan at the end.

Yes.

Absolutely.

But paella wasn't all we had at the restaurant.

We also ordered Fideuà which can best be compared as the noodle version of paella.

so next up this is the alternative to Paella.

This is Alicante's version.

Yeah.

And it is made with noodles.

That is right.

Fideuà.

But before I even talk about this I have to first talk about the Paella now.

For the four of us to finish that I give us an A+ because that wasn't easy.

That was a lot of food.

Yeah.

And now we're moving on to round 2.

Yes.

We have another big big pot full of food to eat.

Yeah look at those.

I'm just going to use the spoon here.

So this one has um prawns.

It has cuttlefish, it has a different kind of noodle.

Mussels.

Oh mussels too.

Red peppers.

That looks amazing.

It has got a bit of everything.

It smells really good.

It has like a very strong fish seafood smell.

So I should say not fish seafood smell as you can imagine.

So now it is time for the first bite.

It looks good.

It looks so good I've got to make sure I get some fish in there.

Or some seafood I should say.

Why do I keep calling everything fish today.

I don't know.

Hahaha.

I've got noodles.

Creatures of the sea.

Creatures of the sea.

Frutti di mare.

There you go.

Mmmmm.

Wow.

The one thing that they do have in common is that the noodles are kind of cooked crispy

similar to the rice.

Oooh.

But it isn't quite as crispy as the rice.

It just has a very it has a different texture.

It is kind of nice to try both of them so you can compare and contrast.

And what is nice about um it is also nice a very flavorful and salty with the saffron

and also the juiciness of the seafood.

Wow.

Wonderful.

Yeah, there is just a lot going on.

A lot of flavors.

I would call it a flavor explosion.

It is delicious.

Let's continue enjoying then.

It is day 2 here in Valencia and we are visiting the most iconic site.

What is Audrey?

The City of Arts and Sciences (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències - Ciudad de las Artes

y las Ciencias).

Yep.

The City of Arts and Sciences.

And so far I mean like I've seen some pictures and videos of this place but I had no idea

just how big it would be.

Like we've just been walking around the different complexes and buildings.

And it is massive.

Like we haven't even gone inside anything yet.

We've just been exploring the perimeter and it has been beautiful so far.

The sun has come out.

And yeah we're just going to wander around.

The City of Arts and Sciences, is a cultural and architectural complex that looks quite

spacey and futuristic.

The complex itself is made up of various structures.

My personal favourite was the domed-glass garden that's filled with palm trees, orange

trees and sculptures.

Other structures include the planetarium, an interactive science museum, an aquarium,

an opera house, and a plaza designed to hold concerts and sporting events.

We can't emphasize enough that this is a vast space to cover on foot, which brings

us to our next point, there are bike rental shops in the neighbourhood, where you can

get yourself a set of wheels to explore the City of Arts and Sciences and also Turia Park

(Jardí del Túria - Jardín del Turia).

Alright so my Dad and I we're making the most of beautiful day.

We've decided to rent bikes and we're just going along the big park here in Valencia.

It is gorgeous outside isn't it?

Yeah, this bike park walking park would be good for anybody.

I know.

Anybody rollerblades, skateboards.

Yeah.

Bicycling.

Just walking.

Strolling.

You wouldn't believe how many people are out right now.

And we found a bike rental place.

We're getting our bikes for it is only 5 Euros and we get 4 hours.

So it is a pretty good deal.

We're not going to be going out for 4 hours but uh it is a great deal.

Yeah.

Oh that is an awesome deal for European prices.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay so you just went on a little bike adventure.

Yeah.

Tell us about it?

So for an hour and a half Pumpy and I did a little trip.

And uh it was absolutely incredible.

Like the development of this park all throughout the city is incredible.

And we just like scratched the surface.

I don't even know if we did even 5 or 10 percent of the entire length.

Like this goes on for ever and ever.

We just did the one end of it.

And it just makes you think like imagine how cool it would be if you actually lived here.

Had your own bike and could do the entire route.

It would just be awesome.

Like we just barely scratched the surface today.

We also made time for a food adventure in Valencia's Central Market (Mercado Central

de Valencia - Mercat Central).

Although this is primarily a place to buy your fresh fish, vegetables, meat, and fruit,

you can also find some stands that sell smaller snacks and traditional Spanish dishes, but

we'll cover the market thoroughly in another video.

And to wrap up our trip to Valencia, we'll leave you with a few nighttime shots of the

city washed aglow.

We hope you enjoyed this Valencia travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things

to do around the city.

Wishing you happy travels and we'll see you in the next video as we continue our travels

in Spain!

A Grad Student's Guide to Avoiding Plagiarism - Duration: 13:29.

Plagiarism, Paraphrasing, and Patchwriting: Using Sources Responsibly,

A Guide for Students. Plagiarism is a term that refers to a variety of academic

infractions ranging from the careless or incorrect use of sources to deliberate

cheating by the theft of intellectual property. As you can see here,

according to Georgia Southern, a range of activities can qualify as plagiarism.

Plagiarism includes but is not limited to directly quoting the words of others

without using quotation marks or indented format to identify them, using

published or unpublished sources of information without identifying them,

paraphrasing material or ideas without identifying the source, unacknowledged

use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling

of term papers or other academic material. Although most students would

never consider deliberate cheating of the sort described in this last bullet point,

they still may find the other rules governing plagiarism to be

difficult to keep straight. The problem tends to increase with research-based

writing. This presentation will help provide you with guidance in navigating

the waters of writing with sources.

One scholar explained, "Although most students can define

plagiarism acceptably, 'taking someone else's words or ideas and using them as

one's own,' they often have a difficult time applying that definition in real

situations." Does this sound like a problem you've encountered? One student

says, "Everything about plagiarism seems so vague...there are so many exceptions."

What may be confusing Robert here is the fact that there is no one correct way to

use a quotation or write a paraphrase. Writers even have options on how to

introduce material from a source or include material in parenthetical

citations. Another student says, "If you read a paragraph and summarize it in

your own words, I don't feel that's plagiarism. I mean that's not copying

word-for-word. If you, you know, use a direct quote, you have to, you know, cite it."

Gina's words reflect that she shares what may be the most common

misunderstanding of students working with sources: they assume that changing

the wording of the original source a bit is enough to avoid the accusation of

plagiarism. It isn't. When you use material from a source, unless it

qualifies as common knowledge found in many sources, you must either directly

quote the author's exact words, indicating the quotation with quotation

marks or block format, or completely paraphrase by changing both the author's

wording and sentence structure. In either case, quoting or paraphrasing, you must

document the source of the material with an in-text citation. Jennifer says, "In my

case...plagiarism was unintentional...I didn't understand the text." Another

problem students frequently encounter occurs when they try to use sources

containing complex or nuanced arguments along with disciplinary jargon. It may be

tempting in such cases to adapt chunks of the author's original prose into your

paper, but such a practice frequently crosses the line into plagiarism. A good

rule of thumb is "Don't use a source until you can clearly explain what the

author means to another person." If you can, you're much less likely to

plagiarize. In Jennifer's case, she did not mean to break the rules, but she did

so unintentionally. Unfortunately, to many academics,

ignorance of the law is no excuse. What Jennifer did when she inadequately

paraphrased her source is what many students do when they are struggling to

write an academic paper with sources. Composition Studies scholar Rebecca

Moore Howard realized that most students want to handle sources responsibly but

are often confused by the rules governing plagiarism. She identified a

coping mechanism such students employ, one which she called patchwriting. As I

describe it, you may recognize the strategy as one you've used yourself.

What is patchwriting?

It's copying from a source text and then deleting some

words, altering grammatical structures, or plugging in one-for-one synonym

substitutes. Has this happened to you?

Howard identified several reasons students patchwrite. For example,

students do not understand what they are reading. Often students resort to

patchwriting when they have not grasped the complexities of the dense academic prose

of peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic texts they are expected

to use as sources. Another reason is that patchwriting can be a gesture of

reverence. Howard argued that students admire the language of the source and

strive to imitate it; hence, they patchwrite, often while citing the source.

Howard also stresses that patchwriting is a step in the learning process:

"Students are attempting to join the academic community by merging their

voice with that of the source as a way of collaborating with its language and

ideas." Although Howard understands students' motivations, she also warns that

patchwriting is a transitional writing form; it is never acceptable for final-draft

academic writing. Academic writers are expected to

demonstrate an understanding of the texts they cite. One of the ways you can move

past the need to patchwrite is by paraphrasing correctly and completely

rephrasing author's ideas in your own voice while still citing the source.

Patchwriting, while understandable for students learning how to understand and

handle sources, often is identified by professors and other knowledgeable

readers as plagiarism. Do not rely on patchwriting in your papers. In one of

her books, Howard explains that early in her career, she gave the following

assignment to a class. Here is the assignment she gave: to read a selection

and consider its implications not only for a reading of Genesis but also of

Plato's Phaedo. Here is a short section from the original source Howard assigned

and expected her students to use in this assignment. These are the author's exact

words: "Such 'story myths' are not told for their entertainment value. They provide

answers to questions people ask about life, about society, and about the world

in which they live." Here are some examples of some of the attempts of

Howard's students to fulfill her assignment using the quoted material

from the previous slide: 1."Specifically story myths, are not for entertainment

purposes, rather they serve as answers to questions people ask about life, about

society and about the world in which they live." 2."Story myths provide answers to

philosophical questions about life, society, and the world."

3."Davidson explains that story myths answer questions people ask about life,

about society, and about the world that we live in." 4."The

first type of story myths, which are used to explain a principle or answer a

question about life, society, and the world." As you can undoubtedly tell,

although none of these samples is exactly like the original, every one of

these examples of Howard's students' writing contains unquoted wording that

is very close to the original--too close. In her book, Howard includes many more

similar examples from the same class. These are only a few. It seems clear that

the students were not trying to cheat-- after all, they were all using the same

source, one that Howard had assigned to the entire class. Several of the students

even named Davidson as the author of the source. However, technically, they could be

considered guilty of plagiarism. They were patchwriting, but patchwriting,

though understandable. got these students in trouble. One tip to avoid

patchwriting is to make sure that you fully comprehend your sources. One way to do

this is to carefully read your source-- preferably several times--and then

putting aside the source, try to paraphrase sections without looking at

the text. Then go back and look at the text and compare what you wrote to the

original. Doing this may help you understand difficult concepts in a way

that will increase the accuracy of your paraphrasing. Another tactic is to check

the professional literature for a review of the source in question.

Reading a review or article which refers to the source may help you comprehend it

and write about it with more confidence in your own work. Doing this will

decrease the likelihood that you will have to depend on patchwriting.

Turnitin, a well-known example of plagiarism-detection software, has been made

available to Georgia Southern University instructors, and they may opt to use it

in some of your courses. While the idea of plagiarism-detection software makes

many students nervous, if your professors activate Turnitin, it can be a useful

tool as you work with sources in your writing. Your professors may encourage

you to submit your own work to Turnitin and see your own originality report.

In this way, you can often identify areas that need more extensive rewriting to

avoid patchwriting or plagiarism. Here are a few additional reminders: carefully

review the rules for quoting and paraphrasing in your handbook or on a

reputable site such as the OWL Purdue. Ask for help should you be confused by

the rules of the documentation style such as APA, MLA, etc., you are expected to

use. Please note that like text, images you find in articles, websites, books, etc.,

usually need to be cited when you want to incorporate them into your writing.

Here you see listed the sources used in the preparation of this presentation

documented in APA style. Moving past the need to patchwrite is not something

most people can do all at once. Like any aspect of learning, it takes practice.

Remember, however, that the University has resources that can provide help. You're

not alone. Last, it's important to realize that learning to understand complex

sources and handling them responsibly and

ethically in your work are skills that contribute to your ultimate membership

in the wider academic community.

Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) – International Terminal - Arrivals and Ground Transportation Guide - Duration: 8:45.

Hipfig Travel Channel offers DIY travel video guides for more than 25 cities in

Asia, US, and Canada. If you like this video then subscribe, give us a thumbs up,

or a comment. Welcome to Hipfig'sTravel Guide series

on Tokyo, Japan. In this video we'll share our experiences with Haneda Airport also

known as Haneda International Airport and Tokyo International Airport. Use this

Haneda Airport guide to help you with your smooth travel through Haneda

International Airport. Haneda Airport is the older of the two

main airports in the Tokyo area; the other airport being Narita International

Airport. Haneda Airport is located less than 30 minutes south of central Tokyo

it handles both domestic and international flights. International

flights fly in and out of the international terminal building. Domestic

flights use terminals 1 and 2. International passengers arriving at

Haneda International Airport will arrive in the international terminal building

Follow the clearly marked signs to immigration and customs once you

disembark your plane. Haneda Airport signs are in English and in Japanese. The

first place you'll encounter before immigration is the quarantine counter. If

a medical form was distributed on your plane then fill in all required fields and give

it to the official in the quarantine counter. Once you pass the quarantine

counter then proceed to immigration. If you're not a citizen of Japan, fill out

the disembarkation card given on the plane. Once you're complete immigration

you can follow the signs to baggage claim. Get your checked baggage in the

baggage claim area and then proceed to customs. An inspection may be required

depending on where you're arriving from. Make sure to fill out your declaration

card and give it to the customs officer once in the customs area. Once you leave

the custom area proceed to arrival hall also

as their arrival lobby. If you're transferring to another international

flight then after you disembark your plane walk to the security checkpoint

for international connections. It's located in the arrival concourse on the

second floor. Just follow the signs for international transfers. If you're

transferring to a domestic flight you will follow all the arrival procedures

of the international arrivals but after customs you'll need to transfer to the

domestic terminals 1 or 2. There are several ways from the international

terminal building to domestic terminals 1 or 2. There's a free shuttle bus

which operates frequently between all the terminal buildings but you'll have

to go outside of the security check area and then go through security again at

the new terminal. To get to the free shuttle buses to the domestic terminals

take the elevator or escalator down to the ground floor to bus stop number zero

of the International Terminal. If Tokyo is your final destination then continue

to the arrival lobby. In the arrival lobby you'll find a currency exchange

counter and an ATM on the left and there's even a shower room if needed for

a small fee. There is a tourist information center on the right-hand

side as soon as you get in to the arrival hall. Haneda Airport has many

electronic displays providing information for all sorts of public

transportation into the city. Haneda Airport offers lots of different kinds

of bus services to Tokyo. Check bus schedules and purchased tickets before

boarding the bus at the ticket counter or the ticket vending machines at the

arrival lobby. At the arrival lobby bus ticket counters are on the left side and

the ticket vending machines are on the right side. If this is your first time we

suggest going to the ticket counter and as they can answer your questions. to get

to the bus stops follow the bus signs in the arrival

to the other end then take the elevator or escalator down to the ground floor

and wait at the correct bus stop number for your bus. Information is in English

and Japanese. If you would like to take a taxi

follow the taxi signs and go down to the ground floor using the escalators or

elevators go outside the curb and look for the taxi queue. It's near number 22

an attendant will direct you to your taxi. A taxi will cost you around five

thousand to eleven thousand yen which converts to about 50 to 100 US dollars

or more depending on the destination and time of day

there is also a surcharge during the late night typically 20% between 10:00

p.m. and 5:00 a.m.. A fast and convenient way to get into the city during peak

traffic time is by monorail or train. The Tokyo monorail connects Haneda

airport with Hamamatsucho station on the jr yamanote line. the Yamanote line

is a circular line which connects major areas in Tokyo like Shinjuku, Tokyo

Station, and Shibuya. Although the tokyo monorail is not a JR line

it's covered by the jr pass and there is a jr counter next to the monorail

entrance if needed. They're open from 6:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.. The Keikyu train

line is located on the opposite side of the Tokyo monorail. The Keikyu railways

connects Haneda airport with Tokyo's Shinagawa Station and that Asakusa

subway line as well as the Yokohama and Kanagawa Prefecture. You'll find the

ticketing machines and information center near the Keikyu train entrance

along with a route map and times. To buy a ticket in cash, use the ticketing

machines. Find your destination and the corresponding station on the map above

the Machine. Press the language selection button and select the language you need

press the ticket button. Press the fare button for your destination indicated in

the map. If you're unable to find the fare search by station name

if you need help ask the information counter

the vending machines do not accept credit cards. It's always a good idea to

have local currency, yen, on hand. Once you have your ticket in hand follow the

signs for either the monorail or the Train and go through the entrance. The

keikyu line entrance will take you to the underground Haneda Airport

international terminal station. The monorail entrance will take you to the third

floor Haneda Airport international terminal station. Some hotels around

Haneda Airport offer complimentary airport pick-up and drop-off. Follow the

signs for the free shuttle to domestic terminals. By the way there's a Lawson

convenience store on the ground floor of the International Terminal if you needed

anything. The free domestic shuttles come at

regular intervals and it first goes to terminal 2 then terminal 1. Exit at terminal 2

for the hotel shuttles. Our hotel shuttle picked us up in a parking lot between

parking lots p3 and p4 just across the street from terminal 2. Currently this is

the only place where hotel shuttles can park to pick up their passengers. FYI

there are other things that might be interesting at the airport if you go up

to the third floor from the arrival lobby. You'll encounter the "Edo Butai"

event stage, and the "Edo Ko-ji" restaurant and shopping area which is is

designed like an old Japanese town. There's even a planetarium. Haneda International

Airport has made every effort to make an efficient, convenient, and pleasant travel

experience for travelers. It's highly recommended. Happy Travels. Go to hipfig.com
