3E @ VRX Boston 2018 - Kyle Jackson, TaleSpin | Th3rdEyeXR - Duration: 2:00.
Hi, I'm Kyle Jackson, I'm the CEO and Co-founder of TaleSpin.
At TaleSpin, we're working on bringing together domain expertise from computer vision,
machine learning, game design and development, enterprise IT, and then also
business transformation to architect solutions that are gonna change the way
we work. We're focused on mixed reality over the long term, right now we're using
virtual and augmented reality to test ideas and drive ROI based on just how
different this spatial medium is. So after three years of working with large
enterprises, we've been able to really distill down to a couple of core
products that we're focusing on - one around collaboration and other around
business intelligence. Both very collaborative, both meant to be multiplayer,
cross-platform. Basically meant to be the start of a kind of this
distributed, intelligent, on-demand, knowledge future. Right now, we're still
building foundations for products that will release two, three years from now,
but servicing needs that are that are here today, and use cases that we're, you
know, getting great results out of them.
What's really exciting is that a lot of people that are kind of on the forefront of what's going on where ROI is being
driven back into business. Some of the biggest businesses in the country are
looking very closely at the future of work, and how these things come together,
and how it's going to redefine our daily experience, and they're looking
at that through a very human lens - not necessarily a business lens.
Those things are aligning. I've had several conversations around all of the other
intangible things about these mediums that we hope to bring your surface, so
that's been both really exciting and insightful. The conversations that we've
been able to have here driven our roadmap and our plans forward significantly.

[B-side] Eating authentic Guangdong food in Boston - Duration: 13:24.
Hey guys. It's not even November yet
but it's crazy windy today.
Inaudible
So the Chinese restaurant I am going today
is only known among Chinese people
I just happen to find out myself.
But the problem of this place is that they don't speak English.
They have English menus though.
The duck dish we are going to have today
you have to make a reservation 3-4 days before.
Cause it requires a lot of prep work
Every time when I call here the chef picks up
and he hungs up cause I don't speak Chinese
Luckily this time an English speaking lady picked up
So I gathered friend to try out the duck
Almost there.
This is a little off from the main Chinatown.
but you still see Chinese stores and people
Hi.
Hello.
What's up?
Please blur me.
Okay. Okay.
Folks here don't want to show their faces today
We gotta repeat what we said already
Wow. Long time no see!
So the due date is next month?
A girl?
I met a friend here.
He's the guy who confirmed that this is the place to go for Guangdong food
Let's order
Spicy food for you.
Soupy one for you.
Let's order spicy cold pig ear.
Are there any warm spicy food?
That's hard to find in Guangdong restaurant.
The clay pot rice is also good.
Chinese style clay pot rice.
You can have eels for topping
Shall we get eels and get invigorated?
(eels known to be good for stamina)
This is also good.
This place is good at Changfen
It's the rice roll you can find in dimsum restaurants
The mainland style looks more scrambled
they don't roll (not true)
We gotta try this one.
Are we not getting the thing?
Oh yeah I already ordered.
What's that?
The duck
Ew the head looks gross
Well, gotta put napkins on top.
This is the duck we are gonna have today.
Poor thing.
Let me tell you how I found this place.
I was searching for eels
And there's a special kind of eel lives in paddy fields
It's named 'D'rung-hurry(bank buster)'
cause it destroys the banks between paddy fields
Koreans don't eat them but they make some kind of extract with them
But in HongKong and Guangdong it's a popular fish
And this place turned out to be one of a few places which sells the eel claypot rice.
How was the trip to China?
Oh it was great.
Xi'an is really awesome.
Oh my brother was in Xi'an too
What did he do?
He was an exchange student. / Oh really?
Yeah lots of people go there.
They have many universities.
Isn't it countryside?
No way!
The population is 13 millions
Really? My brother didn't like it cause he said it's in the countryside.
Oh it's very developed. When was he there?
Like 3 years ago.
I heard there's 3 million increase in population over the past ten years
This is the spicy pig ear.
You can also get this in Daelim-dong in Korea.
Tasty! / Yummy!
The seasoning is very different
I feel like I've tasted this before.
Tastes similar to spicy acorn jelly
I can also taste perilla
They put sesame oil
and probably mala spice
Do you eat cilantro?
Yeah I do.
What about you?
Oh yeah.
There are many people who can't eat cucumber
Yeah it's like an allergy
Where is Guangdong in China?
Near Hongkong
What's this?
This is the changfen
Look it's wrinkly
unlike the one in dimsum restaurants
But this is how it looks like in Guangdong
And we pour soy sauce mix like this.
it's totally 'bu meok'
(There is an old debate whether it's best to pour sauce on top ('bu meok') or dip food in the sauce('Jjik meok') in Korean culture)
Boom up?
Ah 'bu meok'
I thought you said 'boom up'
You can also add eggs
or shredded cabbage
And there's a special steamer that is a metal drawer
You put the batter mix and ingredient in the drawer
and when steamed you roll it with a scraper
ah that's why it wrinkles.
Here we have today's star
Chinese like to keep the head all the time
They pack seasoned sticky rice between the skin and meat and deep fry it
If you look at the rice you'll see tiny fish bones. I think the sauce is fish based.
Let's eat.
There are also small sausage pieces
Yeah it has a lot of stuff.
and this one is not cheap. it's $50 something (59.99)
cheaper than I thought
considering the labor it takes
The rice looks really good.
It's seasoned with duck fat
Oh the skin is really crunchy
Damn it's so good.
I see shrimps too.
It has many layers of flavor.
I think this is a good Christmas dish.
Or for Thanksgiving day
This is just stir-fry veggie
Bao zai fan
Bao zai fan
it's not as impressive after the duck
It also comes in an individual plate when you order a small portion.
That's gonna go well with the soup we had
But this one is delicious too
Yeah for real.
Ah is this the Chinese sausage?
yup
show it to the camera
It tastes similar to Chinese jerky I had
How's the duck?
It's great. Do you wanna try some?
Oh I am too full.
So are these all Guangdong style?
yup
What's the characteristic of Guangdong food?
Not spicy.
Although we didn't order any it's heavily seafood based
It's soy sauce based with mild sweetness
I miss the Korean style roast duck where they stuff the duck with a lot of different ingredients
Figs, sweet potato, chestnut..
And they put it inside clay and bake it
It's good that we ordered some veggie
Shall I try the duck brain?
For real?
Ew look how he's picking it.
Do you think I should blur this?
It doesn't taste very special
What if there are germs
well it's cooked
Chinese looooove animal heads
I was in Chengdu, Sichuan
I didn't know but Shu Han(蜀漢) was Sichuan
(*The ancient Kingdom in Asian equivalent to Iliad)
I visited Liu Bei(the emperor of Shu Han)'s tomb as well
That's what's fun about China
I heard Sichuan has a lot of Sanguozhi(三國志-The novel) related spots.
And marinated rabbit heads is a popular snack there
Rabbit heads?
Yeah
Without fur?
Skinned
Does it have brain as well?
Probably
Marinated?
Yeah with ma-la
You can get them in the airport too
They vacuum seal it for you.
What does it taste like?
I didn't try
why?
I don't think rabbit is tasty
I wasn't like this when I was younger
But I need some quiet time of my own after I became 30
Yeah everyone around me is like that
except me
I can spend time alone
but not quietly?
I don't think I've ever longed for it.
I can spend time alone but
Maybe you are still young at heart
I think I am just outgoing
A friend told me that I am a shy introvert
*a shy extrovert
Ah right.
If being with someone drains your energy you are an introvert
if not you are an extro
I don't think there are extros around me
And I tend to get along better with intros
And I exploit friends when I hang out with them.
(nodding)
You are so swampy
I call one friend every weekend to hang out
until he gets sick of me
So I have a batch of friends
so that I can rotate them when one worn out
You gotta slow down a bit
Eventually he gets recharged
It's nice to have a playmate for the lifetime
Yeah it's too hard to always searching for somebody to hangout
Yeah you need to have the same taste and the same style
