Hi, I'm Dr. Joe Nemeth. I'm a periodontist in Southfield, Michigan and I want to

talk today about gum recession, the causes of gum recession, treatment for

gum recession, specifically the pinhole technique for gum recession. So what is

gum recession? Well gum the recession is when the gum

moves away from the tooth so more and more of the tooth starts to show. The

root of the tooth starts to show and this can lead to increased sensitivity a

unacceptable or a smile that's not very attractive and as the gum continues to

recede the tooth may be more subject to decay. As the gum recedes the bone

recedes and you know if you continue to lose gum and you continue to lose bone

the tooth really becomes at risk and you actually risk losing the tooth. So

there's lots of consequences to untreated gum recession. So let's talk

about the causes of gum recession. Well one of the primary causes is genetics. If

you inherit, genetically, if you inherit thin gum tissue, that thin gum tissue is

much more likely to be subject to recession than someone who has thicker

gum tissue. Another cause that I frequently see I would say probably 70

to 80% of the patients that I see for recession have had orthodontic treatment

and sometimes that recession doesn't occur till a month a year, two, five, ten

twenty years after the orthodontics, but very frequently the orthodontics has an

effect on the bone and the gum, that sets the stage for recession in the future.

Another major cause is vigorous tooth brushing.

Most of the patients that I see are very very conscious of how clean their mouth

should be and they're super duper cleaners. They may brush their teeth

three, four times a day, really scrub them. Well, the more you scrub if you over

scrub and if you over-clean you're actually traumatizing

that tissue and causing it to be more likely to recede in the future. Also, if

you clench you grind your teeth that can be a factor. If you have fillings that

can irritate the tissue and sometimes cause recession. I had a patient the other

day who had recession after she had used a whitening strip to whiten her

teeth. So sometimes the chemicals from whitening materials, strong chemicals can

actually cause gum recession. So, those are some of the frequent causes that we

see when we see gum recession. Traditionally, in repairing areas of gum

recession periodontists take tissue from the palate. Now, that can be pretty

uncomfortable, it can be pretty painful actually. Cutting gum tissue out of the

roof of the mouth is really what it is. Plus, you can only do a limited number of

teeth because you can only really take out a certain amount of gum tissue from

the palate at one time actually, of course it's limited. So, I use the

pinhole technique exclusively, virtually exclusively. I never never take tissue

from the palate if I can possibly avoid it, which is almost all the time. So

here's an example of a situation where a young man came in, he had had recession

on the back of one of his lower front teeth. Now a periodontist twice in the

past he had been to periodontists who tried to repair this with what's called

the gold standard which is taking tissue from the roof of the mouth and trying to

cover the recession with that. Both of those attempts failed. He came to our

office and it was an interesting challenge and we did it with a

modification of the pinhole technique and we got a very gratifying result, much

much better and the patient of course was much happier than what had happened

in the past. Now we also had another patient who flew in from South Korea. She

wanted to have her recession treated. She was an American citizen but lived in

Korea. She flew in to see me. We did her whole mouth, and once. Again, we didn't take

tissue from the palate. You really couldn't treat the whole

mouth by taking tissue from the palate anyway, because you couldn't get enough

tissue. So we did the pinhole technique which is minimally invasive, usually

little or no pain or discomfort. It's really really great it's worked so well

for me and my patients. We did her whole mouth. This is what it looked like before,

after the result is great. She was extremely happy. We were extremely happy

and it's very gratifying to be able to help patients like this who've got gum

recession. Some of whom have been through previous treatment that hasn't worked

that it maybe has failed, and then we can very often help them and treat those

areas effectively with minimal discomfort and maximum effectiveness.

It's a great technique, great procedure. So if you have gum recession, don't

hesitate to give us a call we'll take a look and see if we can help you. We

probably can, and if you have any comments make sure and let us know. We

want to keep you informed. Keep you happy, keep you healthy because if you have a

healthy mouth, you're going to have a healthier body. Take care, have a great day!

Lush Deep Dives: Tame Tresses with Hair Treatments - Duration: 9:46.

- What's up?

We're gonna talk about hair treatments today.

Hair treatments are a really great way to add

a boost of moisture to the hair to help repair it.

It's a really great way also to get into Lush haircare

if you've never tried it before.

So, I'm gonna talk a little bit about

some of the different kinds that we have,

how to use them and then you can tell

me which ones you're really curious about

and which ones you've tried and stuff down below.

So first let's talk about why

you would use a hair treatment.

A hair treatment is a great thing

to use for lots of different reasons.

Let's start with the most obvious,

your hair needs help.

If you have wrecked it from dying it

or over styling it or using too much heat,

then especially the bottoms are gonna be experiencing

a lot of breakage and a lot of moisture loss,

so a hair treatment can really help out with that,

it can help to add extra moisture to the hair,

it can help to strengthen it,

we have a lot of olive oil in them,

and it can really help just revitalize that hair.

Another reason is because you feel like it.

So, at Lush we always say listen to your skin

and that goes for your hair, as well.

So, if you're dong a Fresh Face Mask or a foot treatment,

you might as well do a hair mask, too,

'cause you're just gonna hop in the shower

and rinse it all off anyway, right?

So, if you're having a night in

and you just wanna do something a little extra special

for yourself, a hair treatment is a really great way

to give your hair a little bit of extra love.

It's also a really great thing to do

if you're just getting into Lush hair care.

So, at Lush, in our conditioners, we don't use silicon.

So, silicon is,

it feels good (sighing) on the hair,

but it's actually not repairing or strengthening

the hair itself, it's really just coating it.

So, I like to think of our conditioners

as really strengthening the hair from the inside

and really working on the hair that you have.

So, when you are starting with a new Lush conditioner,

using a hair treatment for a couple of weeks

is a really great way to kind of bridge that gap

between stopping a life of silicone use

in your hair products and moving over

to a more natural way of conditioning your hair.

So a hair treatment is a really great first big step

along that path to health for your hair

and kind of getting back to your roots, so to speak.

So we have a couple of different kinds of hair treatments

at Lush, I'll start with the classics.

This one is H'suan Wen Hua, some people say shwan when wah,

and that is okay, but you'll hear all manner

of pronunciations, I say swan like the bird,

when wah, okay?

Swan when wah, that's how I say it.

H'suan Wen Hua is (sighing) really a classic hair treatment

in that (sniffing) it's almost like a hair dressing.

So (sniffing) when you smell it,

you're smelling some bay leaf and some cinnamon,

so those two things are really going to stimulate the hair

and the cells so it's gonna be bringing oxygen rich blood

to the cells to nourish, to encourage healthy hair growth.

This one also has olive oil

and that's great for tensile strength.

Tensile strength is how hard you can pull

on something before it snaps.

And it can actually increase that tensile strength

in your hair threefold over just plain, dry hair.

So, olive oil is really great to help strengthen the hair.

This one also has some fresh banana,

some fresh avocado, so you can imagine

what that does, just giving like yummy moisture

to the hair and then some balsamic vinegar

and you can actually smell

a little bit of that in here, too.

Balsamic vinegar is great for making the hair shiny.

So when you're thinking about the combination

of those things, we're thinking about stimulation,

we're thinking about hydration,

and we're thinking about strength.

So, there's a lot of really great things going on

in H'suan Wen Hua.

To use a hair treatment, any hair treatment

that we have, you just put it into dry hair,

leave it in for 20, 30 minutes,

and then you just wash it out.

So, why do you put it into dry hair?

That's a really good question.

When your hair is wet, it's already soaked up

a lot of water and it can't really soak

up more product, like the hair treatment,

so you want the hair to soak up as much

of it as it can to really do the best work

and so you wanna put it on dry hair where

your hair's really thirsty and soak it all up

and then leave that to do

the good for that 20 or 30 minutes.

I usually like to put a little wrap on my head,

sometimes I'll even just put a plastic grocery bag

or a little bit of plastic wrap or something like that

or like a reusable shower cap would be great.

And that'll kind of keep a little bit

of your head's heat inside there, too,

and will kind of give it like a little bit of extra warmth.

But I like to do that and maybe do

that while you're taking a bath or watching a T.V. show

and then you can shower it out afterwards.

So those are our traditional potted hair treatments,

but we also have a really cool idea

which is hair treatments on a stick.

So, the inspiration from this came

from a Belgium coffee shop.

Mark Constantine went into this coffee shop

and they had hot chocolate on a stick,

so, just like you can imagine, this is like a block

of chocolate they put into the mug

and then stirred it up and had this lovely hot chocolate.

So, what a great idea for a product!

And so this is where hot oil treatments were born.

So what you do with it, there's instructions right on here,

you just pour a little bit of boiling water into a cup,

you stir it around until it's melted

and it's a nice creamy consistency just like

a potted hair treatment and then just let

it cool just enough, and you know, cool to the touch,

so you're not sticking your hands in a really hot product.

Put it in, leave it in, just like we talked about,

for 20, 30 minutes and then you rinse it out.

So, I made one, I Martha Stewarted this for you.

This is our Hair Doctor which has some seaweed in there

and mint, really good for kind of troublesome scalps

and then this one is our New hair treatment.

So, it's called New, just like the shampoo bar,

if you're familiar with that.

It's got a lot of cinnamon and clove in there,

it's really stimulating.

So this one you can see is a different color,

but this is kinda what you're looking for.

So after about, you know, 10 minutes or so,

it's gonna be this nice creamy consistency

and you just kinda keep stirring it up every now and then,

make yourself a tea and have your tea while

you're waiting for it to melt down

and just kinda keep on stirring it up.

So, when it's cool enough that you can put

your hands into it and get it in, go for it.

I usually like to, 'cause I have a lot of hair,

so what I usually do is I'll kinda start

at the crown of my head first,

and get that going and then I'll kinda put it in a bun

and then I'll kinda do like another layer,

get that going and then kinda like add to the bun,

and add to the bun until it's all taken up

and that's just like a neat way to do it.

But you can do it however you like, of course.

So, this is what you're looking for,

and then it just works just like a potted treatment.

And speaking of potted treatments,

you can put this into a jar or maybe an empty black pot

that you've got and use it for up to a month,

depending on the thickness of your hair

and the length of your hair,

you might use up to half of this.

I've got pretty long, pretty thick hair

and I'll probably use about half of this,

maybe even a little bit more, to do a hair treatment.

If your hair is thinner or shorter,

you'll be using less of it so you can definitely

hang onto this for a little while.

It is a self-preserving product,

which means there are no synthetic preservatives in here.

So now that we've added the water,

we do just wanna be mindful of it.

So, like I said, it would be good for about a month,

but after that, it's freshness is kind of passed you by,

so you wanna get a new fresh one.

So, depending on what you need,

we've got lots of different options for you to try.

So, and that may even change, you know, from week to week,

you might want to try something different.

So if you want something really light

and fresh and stimulating,

we have something like our New hot oil treatment,

the one I just showed you, we also have Roots,

which gives this really zingy, fresh feeling

on the scalp, it really tingles.

You could also try something nice and light,

like Marilyn, we have that in a hot oil treatment

and in the potted treatment,

which is where it originally came from,

so you can kinda like take your pick based on the format.

That's a really nice one for finer hair

or lighter hair that'll just give you

that really simple, gentle hydration,

it's not quite as rich as some of the other ones,

it's got some linseed in there and that'll just help

to make the hair really nice and silky.

We also have a couple for more troubled scalps,

so Hair Doctor here is got some seaweed,

some peppermint in there and this is really gonna be good

for just scalps that need a little bit of extra love

and are maybe feeling a little itchy

or just needing a little bit of a revitalization.

So Hair Doctor would be a really good one for them.

Send them to the doctor!

So, you're probably doing some Fresh Face masks already,

next time you do one, throw a hair mask on, too,

and see how it works.

I guarantee you're gonna come out

the other side feeling really sexy

with some lovely bedroom hair

and feeling really good about what you've just done.

So, come into the shop and call us or look online,

we can help you find the right one.

I wanna know what you've tried,

what you think about them,

so comment down below and then we're gonna keep

on doing some more of these,

so write down what you wanna hear about next time

and we'll be sure to talk about it.

Kybella: Use and Treatment - Duration: 1:48.

> There's another treatment to also destroy fat cells it's called kybella. --

Right -- I see it right here... > These are the two non-surgical fat reduction

procedures and we're doing. Kybella is an injectable product so this is a sample

of the drug right here comes in a small vial like this okay

we'll draw it up into small syringes and then we'll inject the the area for

treatment so this is FDA approved for treatment of the submental fat, the fat

underneath the chin, the double chin and we'll typically use a template like this

because the injection should be equally spaced we'll apply this template to the

skin and it'll put a little these are just little tattoos and then that will

direct the the treatment. So wherever the area of concern is the excess fat

wherever there are tattoos in that area for treatment then we'll inject a

certain volume of the product, and again just similar to the CoolSculpting the

fat will in a similar process be absorbed over a period of about four to

six weeks. > And that's for that what did you call it in the commercial -- turkey

neck, turkey gobbler, double chin -- yeah I just have long hair and that I can hide

look that I'm just gonna hide it. > I don't know that you're candidate... oh no I'm

not I'm just I'm saying a lot of us have it, but I'm sick I don't. I'm seeing if

you're a candidate but actually I don't think you would be a candidate -- thank you --

if you have a little skin laxity than there are other treatments that are

indicated for that but for that this is this or the CoolSculpting the

CoolSculpting has an applicator for treating of the turkey neck as well.

Whiplash Treatment - Parker Chiropractor Awaken Chiropractic - Duration: 1:30.

Hi everyone, Dr. Alex Willard with Awaken Chiropractic again. I want to talk this

week about whiplash. Whiplash injuries in your neck following

an accident whether it's in your car or something else that might sustain a

whiplash injury. So did you know that it only takes about a five mile an hour

accident in order to sustain that in your neck. Most people don't think

of a whiplash injury as being 5-10 to 20-40 miles an hour or 80

miles an hour getting rear-ended getting t-boned in your car and being in

excruciating pain. That's not necessarily true it is most of the time that's

usually where people feel the most pain but you can sustain a whiplash injury at

much lower speeds and actually that might actually be worse for you because

you don't think about. you don't get it corrected and sit there for 10 or 20

years which starts early degeneration in your neck and therefore it's not

correctable. There's nothing you can do except for surgery which, who wants

surgery to just fuse everything together, right? Not me. So in order to correct

that, get your spine checked out make sure that everything is in proper

alignment whether it's the bones or the muscles making sure that the nerves are

functioning correctly and so we can make sure that we awaken your health and we

can help you live a better life. Check us out online at www.awakenchiroco.com

we have blogs on there as well explaining everything so check out all

of those and like us on facebook to see all of our contents thanks have a

wonderful day!
