Hi I'm Alice and I'm the Patient Information Manager here at Myeloma UK.
When I'm not working, I love baking in my free time today I'm going to show you
some simple yet effective cake decorating techniques so that you can
use them on your cakes for your Coffee Morning Month event. So I'm gonna show
you three different designs today and this first one is a marbling design with
a chocolate drip. So I've started with a cake already covered in buttercream and
then I've added blobs of coloured buttercream randomly over the cake. You
need to use something flat or straight edged and so here I've got a scraper but
you can also use a knife if you don't have one and use that to spread the
colour to create the marbled effect. If you like you can add another colour or
more of the base color and repeat the spreading until you get the desired
pattern or effect.
Now I've got two melted white chocolate and I'm going to use a spoon to pour
over the edge of the cake. It helps to pause and pour a bit more at the point
that you want the drip to fall.
And then you can spread the rest of the chocolate over the top.
This second design uses a piping bag but you can also use a sandwich bag if you
don't have fun you just need to cut the corner off and then fill it with
buttercream. You can use more than one colour to create a nice colour
changing pattern. So squeeze out some buttercream and then pull away and that
will form the scale-like effect. You can repeat this all over the cake as I have
done here or you can just do it around the edge of the cake. This last design is
a floral design and uses a star-shaped nozzle. Here I'm dropping food colouring
around the inside of my piping bag and then I'm going to fill it with a
different coloured buttercream. To create a rose like affect start in the centre.
of where you want the rose to sit and pipe as well moving outwards. You can see
how the colour in the bag creates an interesting effect on the roses. You can
do this all over the cake randomly or you can do it in a pattern. I've then
used the same bag and nozzle to pipe small stars in any gaps.
And here are the three finished designs.
We'd love to see your best cake designs from your Coffee Morning Month event.
