- If you want to make more money, make more sales,
and build a bigger better business,
then you're gonna need more leads,
which is why today we're talking all
about how to generate more leads with the world's
most powerful social media network, Facebook.
Let's get to it. (rock instrumental music)
Hey there, my name is Adam Erhart,
Modern Marketing Strategist.
Welcome to The Modern Marketing Show
where we help you make marketing that matters.
If you're interested in learning
about the latest and greatest marketing strategies,
tools, tips, tricks, and tactics
that are really gonna help take your business and marketing
to the next level you may want to consider subscribing,
hitting that little notification bell.
All right, today we're talking all about lead gen,
specifically lead gen on Facebook.
Because, frankly, there's almost no better platform
out there whether we're talking about online,
or offline, or different social media networks.
Well, regardless, there's almost no better platform
out there to generate leads than Facebook.
For starters, pretty much everybody is on Facebook
regardless of their demographic details like age,
or gender, or occupation, their geographic details.
No matter where they're located, in what city,
or state, or province, or country.
Also, their psychographic details,
which means that we can laser focus
in on different attitudes, or interests, or behaviors,
or anything else that they might be interested in.
Also, advertising on Facebook is really easy to set up.
In fact, the odds are pretty good
that if you've got a business and you're watching
this now you probably already have all
of the assets required to set up
and start generating leads on Facebook.
Whether we're talking about personal profiles,
business pages, or even an ad account.
But I'm getting ahead of myself,
and we'll get to that in just a second.
Also, the strategies that we're gonna be talking
about today are either free,
meaning they obviously don't cost any money,
or they're incredibly inexpensive to use.
So you can be done with only a few dollars a day.
And you can scale up as required or as necessary
as you want to start increasing that lead flow.
All right, let's get to the meat and potatoes.
Here are five steps on how
to generate more leads with Facebook.
Step number one is to get your ducks in a row.
I'm not really sure where that expression came from.
(duck quacks)
When we're talking about getting your ducks
in a row what we mean is making sure
that you're set up for success
by ensuring all of the foundational,
and principles, and all the basics are in place
before you start trying to generate those leads.
Now, there's some obvious things you're gonna need
to do like make sure you've got a Facebook account,
both a personal one, and a business one,
as well as an ad account, which is all gonna help.
And if you already have an ad account
you're going to probably want to make sure that it's set up
under a business manager, rather under a personal name.
This is gonna give you more flexibility later,
allow you to sort of share access to it,
bring in other ad managers if you want,
as well as create backup ad accounts.
And creating backup ad accounts
is definitely something you're going
to want to do if possible in your account.
This is because once those leads start rolling
in you're not gonna want to take a chance
of anything getting interrupted
or your ad account getting paused or shut down.
So you always want to make sure
you've got that backup just in case.
Also, even if you have no intention
of running paid Facebook ads
to generate leads you still want
to make sure that you do have an ad account set up.
And you've got the Pixel from Facebook,
which is completely free to get
and installed across all of your online properties.
This is incredibly important,
and the sooner you do this the better.
Because it's going to allow you
to start collecting data today.
All right, step number two, once we've got things set up,
once we've got all our accounts registered,
is to really dive into the psychology,
and understand the principles
behind successful lead gen campaigns.
Specifically, the successful lead gen
campaigns taking place on Facebook.
The best thing to do here is to really understand
that Facebook is a social platform,
which means people aren't logging in
in the morning with their credit card
in hand looking for something to buy like
they would if say they were searching on Amazon.
No, you need to understand that they're there
to catch up on news, or chat with friends,
or see what family's up to, or anything like that.
Again, not with purchase intent.
It's for this reason that any of your lead gen efforts
on Facebook need to be friendly,
they need to be casual, they need to be conversational.
And they need to be kind of like you're acting
like a good neighbor or a good friend.
Just chilling out and having a chat.
All right, step number three to generating
more leads on Facebook is to leverage
both your personal profile and paid Facebook ads.
Now, we all pretty much know that organic reach
on a Facebook business page is pretty much dead.
Facebook basically throttled any reach
or any chance of your organic posts,
meaning posts that you don't pay
on your business page, from reaching anyone.
But the same isn't true of your personal page.
Now, by personal profile I mean the one
that's under your name, the one that you're
probably connected to friends and family with.
And the one that you would go to pretty much any time
you log into Facebook just for personal use.
Now, lately, this has been one of the most underutilized,
and yet most effective tools available to us as marketers.
Specifically, in direct marketing and lead gen.
Now, obviously, the tactics and the strategy
behind going out and using your personal profile
to generate leads is gonna be pretty different
than if you were using a business profile.
Because, again, you don't want
to come off here as too salesy or too pushy,
especially on that personal profile.
But that doesn't mean you don't want to use it.
Now, I get a lot of kickback and a lot of resistance
from people who don't want to go out there
and put out business messages
on their personal page because their friends
will see it or their family will see it.
They'll get negative feedback, people will criticize them.
They'll say, hey, why are you
doing this, or what's up with that?
And, really, you gotta kind of get over that.
I know, I know, that's easier said than done.
But the reality is that if you want to be generating leads,
if you want to grow your business,
you're gonna have to develop a little bit of a thicker skin.
And that means accepting a little bit of criticism
that's gonna come with you first starting
to make those posts on your personal page.
But I assure you the criticism
is well worth the effort because the results,
and the authority, and the authenticity,
and the ethical way that you're able to market
by kind of coming at it personally just far supersedes
any of the negative comments that you might get.
Plus, nobody's saying that you need
to be salesy here on your personal posts.
You can use this to express your views,
or to tell your story, or to tie things into your business,
and how that's a part of your life.
Because the odds are good that if you're an entrepreneur,
well, the entrepreneur aspect of your life
is a pretty big part of your life.
So don't be afraid to share your story,
and share your journey, and share how you're helping people.
All right, so I hope I've convinced you,
but let's move on to paid Facebook ads,
which is where Facebook really starts to shine.
Now, the key to running a successful Facebook ad campaign
to generate leads is really to be strategic,
and to think things through right from
that very first click all the way to the sale.
This means spending a lot of time ahead of time
by making sure that you've got things set up
with good ad copy, and good images,
that you've chosen the right objective whether you're going
for traffic, or conversions, or video views.
And, essentially, just being
strategic about the entire process.
Now, obviously there's a lot to talk
about when it comes to setting up a high converting
and profitable lead gen Facebook ad,
so I'm gonna link up this video right here,
which shares some of the tips
and tricks behind some of my highest converting six
and seven figure generating campaigns.
You definitely want to check it out.
All right, step number four in generating more leads
with Facebook is you need to give them something.
Now, this approach is pretty much lead gen 101,
but essentially what it means is that we're gonna need
to offer something of value in exchange
for our lead's contact details.
Whether we're going for an email,
or a name and email, or a name, email,
and phone number, whatever it is,
we need to provide something of value in order
for them to be willing to exchange that detail.
Now, when it comes to giving them something
of value you can overdeliver because we're all busy.
And the last thing you want to do
is burden someone with a 1000 page E-book,
or a 30 hour video course, or something
that they are gonna really just have no time
to consume or no desire to consume,
which means you won't even get the lead in the first place.
So when you're thinking about what
you can exchange for their contact details make sure
to remember to keep it short, keep it fun,
and keep it actionable, which means that they're going
to be able to get it, consume it,
and then take action really quickly to get a quick win.
And when they take this action and when they get
this quick win, well, they're automatically gonna view you
as a position of authority, and they're gonna know
that you know what you're talking about.
An example here is my Facebook ad image guide,
which is gonna help you select
the perfect image for your Facebook ads.
Now, it's not gonna walk you through absolutely everything
you need to know about setting up a Facebook ad.
But it is going to give you a very quick win,
and it's going to be very effective
in decreasing your cost per acquisition,
increasing the quality of the lead,
and basically making your campaigns
all around much more effective.
So if you haven't already you might want to check it out.
I'll make sure to link it up in the descriptions below.
All right, step number five when it comes
to generating more leads on Facebook
is you need to send them somewhere,
which means you can't leave them hanging.
This is a mistake I see all the time,
whether we're talking about personal posts,
or whether we're talking about paid ads
through a business page, or an ads manager, whatever it is.
People will write really good copy,
they'll have really good content.
And then they'll essentially just say, all right, good luck.
You don't want to do that.
Rather, you want to end absolutely everything
with one single crystal clear call to action.
You want to give your prospect,
or the viewer, or the reader, whoever's going
through this content the exact next steps to follow.
And, normally, they need to be incredibly,
incredibly simple and incredibly clear,
which means one click, yep, one click.
Whether you want to say click here for more info,
click here to register now, click here
to download this free guide, whatever it is make it clear,
make it simple, and make it direct.
But make sure to include it.
So the key then to generating more leads on Facebook
is much the same as generating leads anywhere.
First, you need to understand
the psychology of the platform.
Next, you need to make sure that you're being strategic
throughout your campaign from click all the way to sale.
Next, you need to leverage all the tools available.
In this case it's gonna be your
personal profile and paid ads.
After that you need to make sure
that you're giving them something of value
in exchange for their contact details.
Finally, make sure to include a clear,
concise, and compelling call to action,
which tells them exactly what to do next.
When you get all these lined up Facebook
is easily without a doubt one of the most effective
lead gen platforms available today.

FluteTips 43 How to Get Good Tone From Low to High Leaps - Duration: 2:57.
FluteTips 43 How to Get Good Tone From Low to High Leaps
Today's FluteTip is how to get good tone from low to high leaps.
When you're playing low to high leaps such as what I was just playing in Mozart's Concerto
in G. But they're spread out in a lot of different solos you have big leaps and sometimes what
happens is that our low register notes get lost. The tone dissipates it gets airy they
just don't come out as strong as the high ones. So, here's how you have to approach
that. What is really happening when you're doing low to high leaps is you're changing
your embouchure to the high embouchure and then you're keeping it as a high embouchure
and then trying to get the low notes. When really you have to do the opposite. You have
to have a low embouchure and then reach for the high note with that low embouchure.
Now you can't fast passages you can't change back and forth. You can't have a high embouchure
and then a low and then change and be you moving in and out air stream high air stream
low air stream high. It's too fast for that. So, the key here is to do the opposite of
what usually happens meaning you keep your high embouchure. What you have to have is
the low embouchure. Aim for the low note and then make the high note come out. So, if I'm
playing I've just chosen a passage in Mozart's Concerto in G in the first movement. If I
aim for this Low D
I can get the high note out with the same embouchure
And then F#
G
If I keep that low one I'm going to get all
my low notes out and the benefit will be that my high notes generally will be better in
tune. You can check that with a tuner because your flute may be slightly different. But
generally it's going to help with that. So, I want to keep the low embouchure.
If I had a lot of time between that
I might be shifting my embouchure.
When you have to go fast keep
the low embouchure and then just get the high note to come out with the low embouchure.
Practice that you'll see that that really works well.
That's today's FluteTip.

How to get a 45-day-aged steak in only 48 hours: Cooking with koji (and science!) - Duration: 3:10.
How to get a 45-day-aged steak in only 48 hours — Cooking with koji (and science!)
Koji is a fungus from Japan that ferments food.
Its spores grow on cooked rice.
When applied to steak, its powerful enzymes break down proteins and slowly tenderize meat.
Number 1. Here's how you age a steak with koji rice.
Buy koji rice at a Japanese market or online.
Then crush the rice in a blender.
Number 2. Dry rub your meat.
With koji, any cut of steak will do.
Take the blended powder and rub it on all sides of the steak.
Koji works well turning an average cut of meat into a way above average eating experience.
Number 3. Let science do the work for you.
Put the steak on a wire rack so the koji can breathe.
Pop the steak in the fridge for a full 48 hours.
After 12 hours it will look like a snowy slab as the enzymes break down the flesh.
After two days in the fridge, the steak is hard crusted.
Number 4. Scrape and rinse.
Use the back of a knife to scrape off the koji.
What you're now holding should look dark red and dried, just like an aged steak.
Rinse the steak in cold water to get rid of the remaining koji.
Number 5. Sear it!
In clarified butter, pan sear the steak for about 4 minutes, until it forms a dark crust.
Season with salt and pepper.
Be careful because koji steak caramelizes much faster than a non-treated steak.
Pop it in a preheated, 400-degree oven for about 4 minutes for a medium rare steak.
Take it out, then let sit for 10 minutes...
Now all you have to do is slice and serve!

How to Get Rid of Tree Suckers - Lawn Maintenance Tips | DoMyOwn.com - Duration: 10:25.
What is up everybody!?
Thanks for coming back for another Do My Own Lawn Care video.
Before we get into today's subject I wanted jump into the back yard and do a follow up
on our button weed problem video.
So, let's go back there.
Overall, really great success with the post emergent that I mixed up and sprayed back
here.
Or I should say spot sprayed back here.
And I don't know if you can tell on camera but these bare spots and kind of thinned out
areas that you're seeing is where a lot of the button weed was.
So, again, the post emergent that I mixed up and spot sprayed back here in the back,
did a really great job of kicking the crap out of the button weed.
I waited about a week, I busted out my mower, gave it a fresh cut, and my button weed problem
was almost, ALMOST, all gone.
I noticed there was a few fresh new patches that popped up.
It's not a whole lot.
It's just right in there is a little bit, and right in here is a little bit as well.
But overall, post emergent worked, it did what it needed to do, cutting it down helped,
and it is pretty much all gone!
Ok, so on the last video, I gotta call myself out.
I learned a valuable lesson.
See, I was going for convenience and ease of use, which is why I used my battery powered
backpack sprayer.
And while that's great because you don't have to pump and it keeps a consistent pressure,
the problem with using that one is, I keep a fan tip nozzle on it at all times, because
that's what I primarily use to do my pre and post emergent blanket applications over the
whole yard every year.
And that's not really what you want.
What you really need is a one gallon hand pump sprayer that's got an adjustable cone
nozzle on the end, so that you can go through a lightly spritz the weeds for these spot
treatments.
And the reason I say that, what I noticed after about a week, is the four gallon back
pack sprayer, the battery powered one with that fan tip nozzle, although it did put a
good amount of chemical down in the yard, what it did is it kind of just burnt up some
of the areas back here in the back.
Now since then, those areas have bounced back because we've had a good amount of rain, but
what I learned from that is, the constant pressure of a battery powered sprayer and
that fan tip nozzle, just puts too much out to be doing spot spray treatments.
So again, do yourself a favor, just use a one gallon hand cannon with that adjustable
cone nozzle.
So on today's video and why I'm making it.
I went out of town for a week, and I came back, the yard hadn't been mowed, and, well,
it looked like this.
And because of that, I noticed this lovely little problem.
And that lovely little problem are suckers that are coming from, my crepe myrtles here
in the front yard.
And before we talk about how to deal with this problem from the crepe myrtles here in
the front, let's first talk about what causes suckers in the first place.
Alright, so what causes suckers?
Generally there's two main reasons.
One, the tree or the shrub is under stress or two, a graft has failed.
And before explaining those two reasons, if your trees like my crepe myrtles back here
are just starting to look like shrubs because they've got a whole bunch of bushy clumps
of young stems sprouting from either at the base or a spot up on the tree, those are suckers.
Those are what we're talking about.
And why are they called suckers?
That clump of stems or anything that's coming from the base or the trunk, they're called
suckers because they zap water and nutrients from the main tree.
They're unhealthy, they're unsightly, they just look bad and they're kind of just sucking
the life out of the tree.
So going back to our two main reasons, reason number one, stress.
So suckers are a tress attempt at growing more branches.
Most often because it's had some kind of injury.
If you have exposed roots that are on top of the turf or on top of the soil, and those
roots have been damaged, most often the tree's going to sprout suckers from that area.
If the suckers are growing higher on the trunk, we call those water sprouts and those most
often show up because of some kind of pruning injury or crack on the tree trunk or other
some kind of damage.
So you want to make sure you prune these off when they're really young because if you wait
until they get older their tender skin can turn to bark, and if you try to prune them
off then, you could risk damaging the trunk of your tree.
Suckers are a sign of age.
When your trees are starting to get older, they might start to decay, and that's when
they tend to sucker more.
If you've got a wood boring insect, that's probably going to disrupt the tree's ability
to get water and nutrients up to its branches and instead its going to send it off to those
suckers.
Now on to the second reason, grafts.
And grafts for those who don't know are the trunk and branches of one kind of tree spliced
onto the roots of another.
Now sometimes those grafts fail at the base of the trunk and when that happens, the root
stock is going to start sending out shoots of it's own, those are suckers.
And if you don't prune out those suckers, the root stock of the flowering tree can actually
over take the tree that it was grafted to.
Now tree suckers are not really that huge of a problem, but you want to deal with them
early on so that you can preserve the long term health of the tree.
Or in my case, it's just making your yard look terrible!
So let's talk about how to deal with them.
Right here's a really good example of what I'm talking about.
This is at the base of one of my crepe myrtle trees right here in the front.
I usually don't let them get this out of control and big but I wanted to give you a really
good visual and a really good example of what suckers look like.
So again, you can see this is at the base of the tree.
Looks like there use to be some significant branches coming off right here and somebody
has pruned that back.
I didn't do that.
Somebody previous to me did.
But uh, the tree is kind of stressed out right here and it's trying to regrow those branches
into these little suckers.
Now as for the suckers that you saw at the beginning of this video, I can't really tell
where there at anymore because, well, yeah, I busted out my mower and I went through and
mowed my yard.
I mean I can't have that thing looking like trash, I've got to crush my competition around
me so, got to stay on top of my lawn game.
So I've got to wait for those to sprout back so I can pinpoint exactly where they're at.
Pull them out at the root system and use my Sucker Stopper RTU on it or ready to use spray.
This is what I'm going to be using to try and prevent these things from popping up in
the yard.
I'm not even going to try and pronounce the active ingredient in this product, because
I would just fail miserably.
But it's most commonly known as NAA, so this is what we're going to use and I'm going to
show you how to spray this on the areas where the suckers are sprouting out.
I do have one area where I can most definitely see a sucker sprouting up.
That's this little clump right here.
Underneath it is a root to my crepe myrtle.
Because it keeps getting hit with the mower, every time I go and cut the front yard, this
is an area where it's sprouting one of those suckers to get water and nutrients to it.
So, in order to get these out, what you've got to do is pull them out by the roots as
best as you can.
Pull them out the best you can.
Like so.
And we're going to take our spray, spray the area they use to be.
So right here's another example and another clump.
Do my best to pull it out.
Freaking suckers are hard.
There we go.
Got a bit of grass in there.
That's okay.
Just going to take our spray.
Spray that in the little surrounding area, and should be fixed.
Right here's another one.
I'm going to try and get all the way down to the root here.
Push the grass back a little bit.
There's the root.
Go in, pull it out.
Put our sucker stopper on it.
Check out how gnarly and deep the roots were on the sucker.
There is a Bermuda runner in there, so, ignore that.
But, just look at this.
This is why it was so hard to yank out of there.
Look how intertwined and deep it was.
Crazy.
I know it's one of the suckers from the crepe myrtle because it's got the reddish green
leaves coming out on the top and that's what these suckers looked like at the base of the
tree here when they were first starting out.
So, I know this comes from these guys right here.
Alright so there you go.
That's suckers in a nut shell.
I'm going to keep my eye on the front yard here and as I see those little suckers, I'll
pluck them out and spray them like I just showed you and, yeah!
Try to get rid of that little problem here in the front.
Getting up into the high 90s with a bout 1,001 percent humidity today so, I'm going to hurry
up and get my hand cannon out and mix up some herbicide, post emergent, and spot spray some
weeds I'e got going on in the front.

How to Get More Customers by Knowing Where to Advertise your Business - Duration: 4:41.
As a business owner where should you advertise to get more customers. knowing
where to advertise can get you much better results and save you money in
your marketing campaigns but in order to determine where it advertised you need
to know who your audience is which leaves that question who is my
audience. This is Sharlene from Graphic Intuition and today we'll talk about
determining your target market and using that to figure out how to advertise to them
If we ask who your target market is a lot of people will tell us anyone that
needs our products or services - great thanks dad. Some people will be more
specific than this and say for example men between the ages of 25 to 40 in
the Winnipeg area who are interested in classic cars. Although that's a great
start will tell you to be even more specific than this because within that
demographic you can have a lot of people with very different purchase behaviors
and world views so for example one person might have a family and likes
tinkering on cars on the weekends while another might be single and career
driven and takes his car out to show off so although both these men fit
within that demographic your message to the two men would be very different if
you're trying to get their business. So to determine your target market
demographics are still really important you'll still want to know things like
their age their gender where they're located but take it even a step further
and get to know your ideal client. Get to know their characteristics what
drives them and their purchase behaviors are they the type to buy brand-name
products or are they the type that are looking for deals. Once you have your
target market profiles figure it out you'll be able to cater your marketing
much more specifically you may even notice that you have more than one
target market profile which is great you can then use that to know who you're
targeting and which online platforms will give you the best results. So this
can be quite the extensive topic
so I'll just leave you with a few examples today to help get you started
Number one is Facebook. Facebook has 1.18 billion daily active
users not million, billion. That's a lot of potential people to reach but
there's even greater potential to lose a lot of money if you're just throwing
advertising dollars at the platform without a specific strategy so
generalizing personal experience with many of our clients, again this is not
the case for all of them but I tend to encourage Facebook and social media if
your goal is brand awareness because when people are scrolling through
Facebook they're not planning on making a purchase they're looking at funny
videos they're interacting with their friends so if you keep that in mind you
can still create a killer marketing strategy but the sales funnel tends to
be a lot longer when you use platforms such as social media. Example number two
look at the social channels demographics 78% of Snapchats users are between the
ages of 18 to 24 so if you're marketing to 40 year olds
I wouldn't recommend Snapchat. Example number 3 if you're looking for a shorter
sales funnel I usually recommend going for Google AdWords advertising on there
allows you to choose specific keywords or phrases that you want to appear for
so for example if someone searches for restaurants near me your ad will come up
so this platform has a much shorter sales funnel because people who are
searching those terms already have the intent to purchase but a warning if you
haven't set up campaign in Google AdWords before it's still very easy to
lose a lot of money if you don't know how to set it up so I would definitely
recommend talking to a digital marketing agency like Graphic Intuition to help
implement your campaign. Thanks for watching if you have any questions or
comments please leave those below and either myself or someone from Graphic
Intuitions will get back to you see you next time

How to Get More Conversions on AdWords (5 Quick Tips) - Duration: 8:06.
Are you ready? I'm going to give you five of the quickest and easiest ways to
increase your conversions on Adwords. Let's go!
hi this is Phil Taylor, PPC Strategist. Welcome to another video!
If this is your first time here and you
want to learn how to get more out of your PPC marketing then start now by
subscribing and clicking the bell so you don't miss anything.
So today is about increasing your conversions but before we get into the five tips, if you don't
already have conversion tracking set up then you please do that before you do
anything else, because if you can't count your conversions and see what's driving
them then you'll really be flying blind when it comes to trying to increase them.
Okay you've still got five left; here's the first one. Check your search partners
traffic. Now this is a segment of your AdWords traffic that can lie pretty well
hidden if you don't know where to look for it. By default your ads are opted
in to show not just on Google search results, but also on Google's search
partner sites. Now this is fine if you want to maximize traffic, but if you want
to optimize your conversion rate then it's not usually good news. Typically
search partner traffic is cheaper but converts at a lower rate and the two
don't normally balance out in your favour. The way to check your search partners
traffic is to choose segment from this icon - go down to 'network with search
partners', then you'll see a breakdown of your stats for each item in whatever
view you're in showing how it's performed on Google search and search
partners. The differences that you can see between these two sets of stats
are pretty typical and most importantly here, cost per conversion for search
partners traffic is considerably higher so let's remove search partners to
improve overall cost per conversion. You do that at the campaign level so I've just
selected the campaign you go into campaign settings and down to networks
then just make sure that this check box 'include Google search partners' is not
selected and make sure you save. Number 2: make sure you check your search term reports
OK, into the computer...
You can find the search terms report from
the keywords view by selecting searched from this drop-down and within the
search terms report you'll see a list of the actual phrases that people have
typed into Google to bring up your ads. Now often in this report you'll find
some phrases that are overly broad - that's the main problem - or otherwise
irrelevant to what you're trying to promote and what you want to do is
eliminate the wasted spend on those less relevant terms. This example is from
an ad group that's about kitchen sales. If the search 'Homebase sale' brought up
the ad, that's something we don't want. We want to want to get rid of this kind of wasted
spend and if we go down the list we'll see some other examples of funky
phrases that we really don't want to be spending money on, like this and
this. So there are two ways to eliminate this kind of waste: one is with your
match typing, by making sure that you're using chiefly refined match types like
exact match and phrase match and, at the broadest, modified board match. The other
way is by filtering out these phrases and these kinds of phrases with negative
keywords. Quick bonus tip: if you want a head start on a negative keyword list
then head over to my site at PPC Strategist for a free list of negatives
that are useful for almost all campaigns. Link in the description.
Number 3: advanced location settings this one is really useful and when I look at
existing accounts for the first time, at least nine times out of ten there's room
for improvement here so what it is is when you set your location targeting, you
might expect ads they need to show in the places that you've selected but
actually unless you specify otherwise you'll tend to find that your ads
show in a much wider geography than you expect.
We'll see what that means in practice. Here we are in the locations report for
a campaign that is targeting a few areas around London. These are the areas
that are being explicitly targeted, but if we check the user locations report
from this drop-down, we'll see where ads were actually shown and clicked on...
and you'll see that it's not just about London but all around the world, so
money was spent - a significant amount of money was spent - on clicks that came from
places where we didn't ask to show our ads at all. The way that you deal with
that is under the campaign settings and additional settings under 'location
options', make sure that you've selected 'people in your targeted locations' not to
target the default option which is 'people in or [people] who show interest in'
your targeted locations. Number 4, the device type report. So there are quite a
few different variables beyond just keywords and ads that you can adjust to
improve performance. You've got demographic groupings; ad scheduling (so
what hours of the day and days of the week your ads show); locations; audiences,
and some are more useful than others generally - although it's worth looking at
all of them - but if you only look at one, it definitely be the device type report.
The devices report is over here and when you look at this which shows performance
by device category you will almost always see quite a significant
difference in conversion rate or cost per conversion by device. Typically
mobile traffic converts at a lower rate, but it varies massively from campaign to
campaign and you can make use of whatever patterns you see by making bid
adjustments by device category, so that people who are on a certain type of
device will be given a higher or lower bid depending on how much their traffic
proves to be worth to you, and you could also set a minus 100% bid for clicks
that you don't want at all. Okay we're on to the last one so number five is
language settings. Now the first four have all been more or less defensive
strategies that is they aim to cut out wasted spend, so that you can direct more
of your budget to areas of activity that work. This one is more of an expansion, so
if you're already getting conversions at an acceptable rate and you just want
more traffic to do the same thing, then this is a good one to try. Simply change
the language targeting setting from the default language to 'all
languages'. This might look risk but it's not, because your keywords
still have the final say on whether users see you ads or not so provided
your keywords are properly targeted that's enough to make sure that you're
only going to show out to people who are searching in your primary language. This
just allows ads to show to people whose first language might not be English (or
your primary targeted language is) but if they're still searching in their
language than that should be enough to make sure they're relevant
so this just expands your market by a few percent depending how cosmopolitan
your targeted area is. Quick recap then: number 1 was check your search
partners activity. If it's weighing down your conversion rate than uncheck it in
your settings. Number 2: make sure that your search term reports are being
checked regularly so you can find unwanted phrases that are triggering
your ads. Cut them out with better match types or negative keywords and find your
starter negative keyword list in the description.
Number 3 is advanced location settings. Unless you have a good reason
not to, you want to change this to only show ads to 'people in your targeted
locations'. Number 4: device reports. Check these to see whether you need to
change your bids or exclude any devices. Increase bids to get more traffic on
better performing device types... raise your overall conversion rate. Number 5:
expand your market and get more traffic by changing your language setting to 'all
languages'. That's it for these five quick ways to increase conversions. Share
your own conversion optimization tips in the comments, and there are plenty
more where these came from, so don't forget to subscribe, but for now this is
Phil Taylor, PPC Strategist, until next time!
