hey if you have a Tacoma in you're experiencing some issues with your
windshield wipers this video might help you I looked around at a bunch other
videos on YouTube and online and I have a couple things I'm gonna share that I
didn't see on other videos when I first had a problem it was because the little
plastic socket on the linkage broke so this part of the linkage came apart and
the plastic socket had been worn down so much that it wouldn't stay intact and so
I had one wiper that was moving and the other wiper wasn't moving at all once I
fixed that problem I got the wipers so that they were both working but when
they were going to the resting position they would come all the way down in the
bottom and then they would bounce back up about six inches and then stop in the
middle of the windshield and so when we were driving you know the windshield
wipers would just be sticking up and I figured out how to fix that problem too
so if you having trouble with either of those problems this video will probably
help you out a little bit one other thing I would say before we get started
is check your wiper fuse just double check the fuse
alright check this out look what I just picked up I found a
junkyard we went there hi chief they had ha ha I
want your wiper transmission four wheeler took home ah that's just when I
need it in the previous video when it was super rainy when you're driving our
windshield wiper on our truck broke just one of them the passenger side and I
pulled over tried to figure it out what was going on
figured out what was broken is this little plastic socket you can't just
replace the little plastic socket you have to replace the whole linkage I
looked it up on Amazon Taylor can you look up on amazon toyota tacoma
windshield wiper linkage $125 so 125 bucks on amazon for a brand new one
which I was like that's not gonna happen so then I looked it up on some other
like wholesale auto parts websites and it was 80 bucks then I called this
junkyard and they didn't have the part in but they said they could order it for
me and end up costing me 47 bucks so still not what I would want to pay to
fix a windshield wiper however a lot cheaper than my other options
oops I just pop the cap off there and we went down there no no where did it go
I should have put my hand over it before I popped it off well like I just looked
everywhere for that little cap I can't find it I crawled underneath reached up
like tried to reach above the transmission and stuff use a flashlight
looked all around I can't find that little cap that's what we're looking for
but can't find it
well I'm more efficient than it was last time last time I put the hood up and
down maybe like four times
out with the old wonder if I just
so I'm trying to tighten this bolt onto the motor but when you tighten it it
moves the other bars so trying to figure out how to leverage this now we test and
see if it works before I put the wipers and everything back together
all right so plug it back in all right Taylor's gonna turn the wipers on here
yep
awesome turn it on as high as they go I'm gonna keep the old linkage and that
way I'll have it if anything happens but we're right across the street from
the junkyard and I wanted to make sure I put it in right now
before we drive because we're camping tonight about 30 minutes away and I
wanted to do it right now just in case something didn't work or whatever I
could go back across the street but we need to get the blades back on and then
we'll really be able to test if we fixed it we got the wipers back on go ahead
and test it Taylor so it looks like they're working at the bottom they're
like bouncing up a little bit which is a little bit different from before I think
when I was tightening the bolt on to where the motor is I had to like move it
a little bit so that might have changed like the beginning position however at
this point they're functional so I'm gonna call it good because I'd have to
take everything completely apart again and we need to get on the road all right
I'm back at it I took everything apart pulled that motor out the linkage and
I'm trying to figure out why it's bouncing at the bottom and I think I
figured it out oh when the wipers are in the bottom position and the stop
position this arm right here should be the farthest to the right as possible if
you look right now this is at an angle so this joint should be farther up here
and this arm should actually be parallel or in line with these bars and so you
take this off and just turn it a little bit more and connect it again because
the motor right now is in the stop position and so I'm gonna loosen this
move it over we'll see if that fixes it all right now I have all the arms facing
the same way see how they're all lined up now it's not at an angle
so that is the start position and this arm is as far right as possible which
means the blades are gonna be down in the stop position so I had to make sure
that I didn't spin the motor at all when I took this nut off and also when I put
it back on and because it's right below this bar I had to just use a wrench from
here to tighten it and then had to make sure that these stayed in the same
position this whole linkage moves when you try to
tighten this and so you have to either like put a screwdriver in here to stop
it from moving or you know if you can hold it tight enough but I just threw a
screwdriver right down in here rested it against the bar and that kept everything
from moving all right now that I have the linkage all lined up correctly you
can see that this arm is stopping farthest to the right where before it
was going and then bouncing back just a little bit so I'm gonna put it all in
and then we'll see if the wipers work all right moment of truth yeah look at
that so the blades are coming all the way up to the corner up here and then
they're stopping all the way at the bottom no more bouncing and it feels
good to fix a problem and especially one that we just drive me crazy having the
wipers up like that was just gonna drive me crazy so yesterday when I filmed the
majority of this video I just was kind of like okay this is where I have to be
done and we just need to go because we just need to keep rolling we need to get
to our camp spot and then today I was like all right I'm just gonna go back at
it and just figure this out and make sure I complete it because I want to
make sure that's all good to go and I'm so glad I did that because now it's
working like brand-new so the only thing is I lost a little cap so
that's still gone but I switched it so this one on the driver side you can't
really see it and it's also covered by the hood a little bit so more protected
from weather by the hood so that should be fine and I'll need to get some new
wipers at some point because the passenger side one got ripped up pretty
good when it flipped over in that rainstorm so wipers are all good to go
this is awesome feeling good about that fixed it and if you knew the channel
push your subscribe button all the way in and I'll see you in the next one hats
off to you
