On the Toyota-stand, everything's about the return of two model names.
Corolla and Camry. The Camry hasn't been around for years in Netherlands,
but people still remember the name from years ago. In the USA however, it has had huge sales numbers for years.
Now Toyota wants to present the Camry as the successor to the Avensis.
For now, it's only a saloon, and I think it'll remain that way.
It's a worldwide car. However, because the Camry was always positioned above the Avensis,
it's a lot bigger as well. It's 4,88 m long and that's 10 centimetres longer than the Passat.
Actually it's an E-segment car without a premium brand name, and that's a first in the Netherlands.
Because of its size, you can describe the Camry as a cheaper alternative to the Lexus ES,
which is a car we haven't seen before in Europe either.
There are a lot of technological similarities between the two. Both are on Toyota's new Global Architecture Program,
and of course, this Camry has a hybrid drivetrain producing 218 horsepower,
which is the same as the Lexus ES puts out. It's also the only drivetrain available in the Netherlands.
The dashboard looks rather creative with this line which goes from here to here and ends next to the middle console.
You can clearly see it's not a Lexus however. That's partly because of the materials,
and partly because of the way you operate the infotainment. Lexus has the hard-to-get-used-to touchpad,
but here we've got just a touchscreen with shortcuts around it.
Anyway, it's a matter of taste, but it's clearly different than in a Lexus.
The seating position is very good and the used materials are decent as well.
If you think that's very important, you can still buy a Lexus ES.
On the rear seat, it's even more apparent how much extra space you get.
It's incredibly royal, and it gets even better.
This version, and I don't think it's standard, comes with a armrest full of controls.
You can electrically adjust your backrest, and the sunscreen for the back window...
You can also alter the temperature back here, so it's almost like a top of the range limousine.
The second returning name after Camry, is the Corolla-name.
You might recognize the front from our site as the new Auris, but Toyota decided on the last moment to change the name...
from Auris to Corolla, like the way it was before and the way it is worldwide.
The nose is known, but the rear is new. This is the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports,
the TS. That means we're talking about the estate.
This car is on the TNGA-platform and it has a very long wheelbase. It's 2,70 m. long, which is comparable with the previous Avensis,
which has to clear the way for the even bigger Camry. That's supposed to be good news for the space.
For the rear seat as well probably, but we'll start at the back.
That's where the Corolla Touring Spots offers almost 600 litres. 598 litres to be exact.
That's a lot more than the 540 litres its very popular predecessor offered.
But, a big wheelbase is mostly impacts the space on the rear seat, so let's try that as well.
Well, I'm pretty good back here. Of course, it's not like the Camry,
but you'll survive back here as an adult.
The headroom is good as well, even though this has a panoramic roof.
It has some effect, but it's still very decent.
You can get the new Corolla as a non-hybrid. It's available with a turbocharged 1.2-litre from the C-HR,
and you can get two hybrid drivetrains as well. The 120 horsepower version and one with 180 horsepower.
