Welcome to my office.
Today I will tell You about my working space,
and my co-driver's workplace.
I'll show You a wide range of equipment
tools, buttons,
which are in the Toyota Hilux, also known as the Black Hawk.
Let's first look at the common space.
As You see we don't have too much space
that's why everything has to be arranged very ergonomically.
Ergonomically - it means comfortably.
Drivers are protected by roll cage.
They are quite uncomfortable to get in and out,
but they are very important for safety.
We also have sports seats.
That is - ergonomic seats.
Essentially You fall into a bowl.
It covers You from all sides.
There are six-point seat belts.
This means that the two belts are between the legs
two belts are at the pelvis,
and two belts come across the shoulders - down.
All of them come into a single knot.
Very firmly attached.
Fastens.
Both the driver and the co-driver are pressed to the seat,
to make them safe.
If we need to get out or quickly evacuate the car,
one twist, all the belts loosen.
We are free and independent.
Everything is so thought out that even if
theoretically the belt would not come off,
we must have special blades next to us.
Which are easy to get into Your hands to
cut the straps and get out of the car quickly.
Which may be sinking, perhaps burning or something else happened to it.
If the car is burning, we have a portable fire extinguisher
we also have a stationary extinguishing system
with the tank behind the co-driver's seat.
In this system, many tubes are routed throughout
the car and at certain points,
which can potentially be dangerous,
special foam is sprayed.
It is activated from the outside of the car
shown by the E button, which means "Extinguisher".
Or the crew can reach by activating this switch.
The driver and the co-driver communicate with each other.
Of course, the sports car has a lot of sound.
110 decibels are allowed according to technical requirements.
It is a loud thing.
In this case, we wouldn't be able to talk inside the car
bearing in mind that there are helmets on our heads.
Or we have a special headset when crossing between stages
so we can talk to the co-driver together.
How does it work?
We put our headphones or helmet on our head,
then we connect...
We have a special device that we call "Intercom"
Volume can be increased or decreased and even in a loud car,
I can talk to the co-driver quietly,
sometimes very quietly.
Because we have to be ready for all situations,
we understand that the equipment sometimes fails.
In this case, we have a backup Intercom
and if this doesn't work
we disconnect the primary one
and connect to the backup.
We have a connection again.
To finish talking about the seat and our sitting
it should be said that both me and the co-driver have two bottles,
with 1.5 l each, where we carry water or
special fluid to refresh.
This means that if You want to have a drink,
we make such a move.
There is a mouthpiece here, biting it open a hole, and we can drink cool water through it.
We also have bottles,
and they have designated places, so that
we could take them out to drink if we needed it.
Let's move on to not crucial but important attributes of a race car.
Here we have ducts.
With them we can get the air from the outside.
There is a special hatch that we open
and in this case the air travels to the face or elsewhere where we can direct it
I'll tell You the truth, it's just the same temperature air as outside,
because it gets in from the outside.
We also have two miniature windows,
that open or close in a simple way.
Essentially, they can also get in a relatively small amount of air
or a co-driver can give a time card or get a stamp when he needs it
Let's move on to the most important devices.
Steering wheel.
It can be adjusted for the driver
to be most convenient to hold it.
It should be said that the steering wheel is designed so that
in case of disaster or convenience
it can be removed very quickly
and put to the side.
In this case, You can evacuate more quickly
or do something more here.
The steering wheel is put back on very quickly as well.
It has to be said that there are a few buttons on the steering wheel
These are the specifications in the car
it has a Speed Limiter
to control the speed
and is used by my co-driver.
And when we need some speed,
In the case of Dakar it is 30 km/h, 50 km/h or 90 km/h
and not a km faster,
I press this button to activate the system
we drive some distance at maximum permitted speed
and not faster.
Tire Pressure Monitor, but we don't have this feature in this car.
In other words, we cannot know
How much pressure is in our tires.
This system is very important and necessary
but it was a little too expensive and we didn't take this option.
Also, two very important tools are these two levers.
What do You think they are for?
Red is a hand brake.
In other words, this stop is used when
we want to turn the car quickly around its axis.
It blocks the rear wheels
using a certain speed I turn the steering wheel
I pull the handbrake and our car turns around
and makes it easier for me to overcome a turn.
Usually this is done in very narrow places,
where some accuracy is needed.
The other lever is the gear lever
Here's how it connects:
change the first gear moving to Yourself
and all the rest - second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth.
If I need to lower the gear:
fifth, fourth, third, second,
neutral and reverse.
Neutral and reverse to prevent damage to the car and gearbox
I have to press the special lever
and then activate reverse gear.
Let's move on to specialized equipment that is
used only in Dakar.
First of all, these are the main computers with which the co-driver works.
These two ERTF monitors
provides all the necessary information about
our direction of movement, current location and so on.
Basically, we can see our true speed here
GPS readings.
Here You can see the waypoints that You will often hear about at Dakar.
They open and close when needed.
Because the co-driver basically uses the road book.
You can find out about the Road Book in my other YouTube video.
Searching a little below.
If the co-driver has two ERTF monitors,
basically, only one is mandatory,
we take two if one suddenly stops or
Sebastian has different information there,
I also have a small ERTF monitor as a driver
where I can see the real speed by GPS.
where I can see the azimuth,
that is in which direction we should go.
And sometimes I see
direction to the waypoint if the organizer allows us to see it.
The ERTF system has one more important function.
It is called Sentinel.
You have heard that during the Dakar we are often outraged to catch up to someone,
we give him a signal and he doesn't let us pass,
because according to the rules, if You catch up to the opponent, You are faster.
You must tell him about Your approach.
It starts working probably about a couple of hundred meters to the car.
And then our opponent should go sideways and let us pass.
For this we have this yellow button.
The Sentinel also has a red button.
The red button is used as an alarm signal.
In other words, if we stopped on the track, in a dangerous place
other competitors may not see us
we click it and our system sends the signal around
and the upcoming drivers get a signal that
look, look, somebody is nearby and has troubles
is probably hard to see.
Another important device is Iritrack right here.
With satellite support for this device
we can communicate with the organizers
or call for help if we need it.
The organizer can also send some special information
to a small monitor here
Here's another small security device in this small tray.
It is called Balise
Balise is the last resort.
In other words, it is a satellite signal, an alarm signal saying:
look, we really have a problem,
Iritrack system is not working
help us, we need help.
With this device we send the signal and the organizer receives it
and sends us help.
Cars, helicopters, everything possible.
Another help to the co-driver
are the two on-board computers.
They are called "Tripmaster"
They contain information like,
how many kilometers the car has driven.
The co-driver can adjust different distances
and have a better understanding how far we are
from the start of the special stage
how far we travel from one waypoint to the next,
how much is there from one obstacle to another.
Basically, this is a very much needed computer.
"Tripmaster" is controlled by these keyboards.
Also, the co-driver has two buttons that are used by the feet.
There is also a special device on the door
which can also calibrate these devices.
In the Tripmaster remote by the door
the middle yellow button is a signal button.
Not only the driver can press the signal, but also the co-driver.
If we talk about what the co-driver is controlling with his legs,
it's the two Tripmaster buttons.
One button is, You won't believe, but the screen wiper button.
Sometimes when You come into a river,
and suddenly Your car is covered by water,
the driver may not have time to turn on the wipers.
In this case, it is done by a co-driver with the foot.
Ok, let's move on to the most interesting part or
something You waited for the most.
What are these monitors and buttons in the car's central console.
Well, first of all, we should turn on
electric power
and make this beast awake,
We turn on all electronic systems
and You see two monitors.
One monitor is a driver's monitor.
It contains the basic information
about the state of the car.
In the center is the gear switching indicator
which shows the current gear
it also has engine temperature readings
oil pressure, engine speed,
fuel or fuel system pressure.
Tells the brake balance
what is the current speed
and the engine oil temperature.
The main monitor has a lot of information inside
and here we will find all the information about the car.
Every sensor, hundreds of them, have their own interfaces,
has its own map
and here we can find practically all the information.
And we can know how each unit works,
does it work, does it have the wrong load.
Basically, modern cars are very smart.
There is a lot of information here.
These two buttons - one is for burning, the other is
to turn on the starter or start the engine.
The button next to it is
front heated glass.
The windscreen is heated and, in especially in rivers
steam gathers on the windscreen.
It needs to get warm inside
and then that fog dissipates.
The next button is the Brake pump.
This car has not only air but also liquid
Cooled brake calipers.
Either the system activates the motors that move water,
or the pilot can turn it on.
Tire press display - this feature is not actually installed,
it costs too much, but
there is basically a chance to see how much air is in Your tires.
I told You about that previously.
Alarm reset - this means that if
some errors appear on the screen
You can hit this button and delete them.
If the error persists and there is a problem in the car,
we continue to see errors.
Master, Master Override
these blocks act as fuses in the car.
But there is a button that takes all the systems
and makes them not work as fuses.
Some part will burn,
but You can make it to the finish.
This is the button.
Then the button that does not need to be pressed but the light comes on.
This is when we lock center diff.
This is center diff lock.
Then every normal car has a horn.
The horn is on the co-driver and on my steering wheel,
and one more button here on the console.
We also have special anti-fog lamps
for participants who arrive in the fog
no fog - dust,
so that they have a chance to see a really bright red light.
There are also three buttons for Cruise Control.
We are driving quite a lot on shared roads.
You can set a certain speed and which is very convenient,
You do not need to hold the accelerator pedal
or to maintain the same speed.
An interesting button is Map.
There are four different engine management programs in this car,
which let You
use Your car in various conditions.
When You start the car normally
it works with a program that is programmed for 98 petrol.
Here in Dakar we go with AVGAS,
special aviation fuel.
There is another program for this, with one or two presses of a button
I can change the settings.
And use one, another or a third program.
There are many different radiators in this car.
Practically every oil or cooled unit
has its own separate radiator.
If You have a radiator, it's natural to have a fan.
This is an engine oil fan here
Me or the co-driver can turn it on from the cabin.
Then there are the fans of the engine radiator
Then there are the fans of the engine radiator.
Another interesting button is Jack
Jack is the Hydraulic Legs
which we can use to get out of sand or
to change the tires.
In this case, the legs under the car can lift one or the other side of the car.
In that case, what do we do?
We activate.
Jacks on
And here is the right-hand hydraulic leg,
here is the left-hand hydraulic leg.
The same tumbler, up or down,
we have on both sides, near the driver and co-driver doors,
if we inadvertently need to operate those hydraulic feet outdoors.
In the tank
there are two high pressure pumps for fuel
and four low pressure pumps.
With these buttons we can
operate other pumps.
This is also done so that we do not stop under any conditions.
One of the most important things, perhaps
or the most important comfort things,
is the cabin fan
that works with the air conditioner.
Believe me, this duo is probably used the most during Dakar.
We also have two buttons,
where we can set the maximum speed of the car.
That is no more than 29 or 30 km/h
Not more than 49 or 50 km/h
Or less than 88 km/h
It is calibrated in this way.
This means no more than 90 km/h.
The other buttons on this system are activated.
There are also fans in the car for cooling shock-absorbers.
Hazard or emergency lights.
Flashes in all four corners of the car.
Possibility to lighten or darken screens.
This is important perhaps when You are driving during day or night.
To see properly.
And the ability to change the main monitor windows where
all the information is listed.
All sensors are
we can see the data of all sensors here.
Well, maybe I didn't tell You everything about the possibilities of this car,
with all the things in the cabin
but probably most of You now understand how it works.
Finally, do You think the Toyota Hilux without rear window
has a rearview mirror?
You think it doesn't?
You're wrong.
Here we have a monitor. At the end we have a camera.
And it's great, this combination.
Monitor and cameras.
Like a rearview mirror.
It is a very important thing because when You drive backwards
which happens quite often during Dakar.
It's better not to be blind and see this and that.
That's all for this time and see You
in other videos.
You just saw my video. If You want to get
