Liverpool's owners have given the green light to Philippe Coutinho leaving in the

January window if their £132million valuation is met by Barcelona, according to Sport.

The Spanish publication claim Boston-based Fenway Sports Group are ready to authorise

the exit of the Brazilian playmaker as long as their transfer conditions are met.

Sport report that secretive 'behind the scenes' meetings have taken place in the

American city as Coutinho's camp smooth the path for his departure from Anfield.

It is said that "everybody knows that the Brazilian is pushing to leave" after Barcelona

tabled a series of £100million-plus bids for him in the summer window.

Not in January, no.

Coutinho might have pushed hard to engineer a move to Barcelona as he effectively went

on strike in August, but his performances since his return have done little to suggest

that he is hankering for a move.

In 12 appearances in all competitions, Coutinho has scored five goals and supplied four assists,

and demonstrated the brilliance that makes him one of the Premier League's most dangerous

attackers.

With a top-four challenge and the Champions League knockouts to aim for, it would be a

disastrous move for Liverpool to sell one of their star players in January.

The Catalan media are pushing this story hard, and it appears that speculation about meetings

between Coutinho's camp and FSG are well sourced.

But Liverpool's owners are smart cookies and not looking to cash in on the club's

prize asset.

Stonking January transfers do occasionally happen – as with Fernando Torres and Luis

Suarez – but they are rare.

It would be a major shock if Coutinho left in January.
