Divorce is never an easy thing to go through, but it can be an especially painful process

when you're constantly scrutinized in the tabloids.

Over the years, many stars' careers in Hollywood have come to a screeching halt after their

high-profile relationships ended in divorce.

The following celebs are still trying to pick up the pieces.

Robin Thicke

After dominating the charts for the entire summer of 2012 with his hit single, "Blurred

Lines," Robin Thicke's career essentially died overnight after his high school sweetheart,

Paula Patton, left him amid rumors that he had been unfaithful.

Thicke tried to win back Patton by releasing the critically maligned album, Paula, in 2014,

but that was a flop with its namesake and with fans.

Things only got worse for Thicke in January 2017 when the former couple battled over custody

of their son, Julian.

The legal battle took a number of shocking turns, including allegations from Patton that

Thicke was physically and emotionally abusive during their marriage.

The dueling exes reached a settlement in August 2017.

LeAnn Rimes

By the age of 14, country singer LeAnn Rimes had sold millions of albums, won two Grammy

awards, and was considered by many to be the next Patsy Cline.

Sadly, her solid reputation was essentially destroyed after she was caught cheating on

her husband, Dean Sheremet, with her married Northern Lights co-star, Eddie Cibrian, around

2009.

"Obviously, y'know, we made decisions that were not necessarily, um, the right ones,

but obviously brought us to a place where we are now."

Rimes quickly went from being a well-respected singer to the subject of every tabloid in

sight, and her album sales suffered.

She married Cibrian in 2011, and co-starred with him in a short-lived VH1 reality show

in 2014.

Jon Gosselin There was a time when millions of people tuned

in weekly to watch the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children on the TLC

reality TV series, Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Even their one-hour special to announce their separation was seen by millions.

After splitting, Kate landed a spot on Dancing With the Stars and managed to salvage at least

part of her reality-TV career, due in great part to the revival of her spin-off series

Kate Plus 8.

Jon, on the other hand, hasn't had as much luck.

In 2013, Entertainment Tonight reported that he was living in a cabin without TV or internet

while waiting tables.

He later worked as a cook at TGI Friday's and a DJ before his messy relationship with

Kate blew up again in the press.

Jesse James

In the early 2000s, Jesse James became a household name thanks to his chop shop reality show

Monster Garage.

His rough-around-the-edges public profile skyrocketed when he married sweet-as-pie actress

Sandra Bullock.

America fell in love with the unlikely pair, especially when she thanked him in speech

after speech on her way to an Oscar win for The Blind Side.

That love affair was ripped to shreds after it was revealed that James had reportedly

cheated on Bullock with a tattoo model.

He was also photographed wearing Nazi memorabilia, and doing a Nazi salute.

From that point on, James' career was pretty much over.

That hasn't stopped the tabloids from covering his every move, like the time his now-ex-fiancée

Kat Von D accused him of cheating on her with 19 women.

As of this video, he's married to his fourth wife, drag racer Alexis DeJoria, but his past

affairs still come back to haunt him during interviews and his showbiz career may never

reignite.

Marla Maples

She was an aspiring actress and model from Georgia when she allegedly got in the middle

of Donald Trump's marriage to his first wife, Ivana, at the end of the '80s.

But even Marla Maples' agent and manager Chuck Jones admitted to People in 1990,

"She's not Meryl Streep…

We don't expect a career leap to happen in the next two weeks."

Certainly, her whirlwind romance with and subsequent marriage to "The Donald" opened

many doors for Maples, including stints on Broadway and minor parts on television.

However, a "career leap" never materialized.

In fact, Maples fledgling career fizzled after she split from Trump at the end of the '90s,

likely due to the baggage that came from their relationship's intense tabloid coverage.

Maples did enjoy a mini-comeback of sorts when she appeared on Dancing With the Stars

in 2016, but that was likely fueled less by a desire to see Maples dance the cha-cha and

more by her ex-husband's controversial bid for the White House that year.

"He is the father of my child.

I do not ever want to speak negative about him.

Do we agree on everything?

Absolutely not.

We would be married if we still agreed on everything!"
