Hello and welcome to the SAP HANA Academy.
The topic of this video tutorial series is Getting Started with SAP HANA cockpit
and in this video, I will show you how you can download the latest version of cockpit.
Hi, I am Denys van Kempen.
In the previous video, I showed you the new product page for cockpit on the SAP Help Portal,
although, as we discussed, cockpit is not a product - there is no entry in the product
availability matrix, for example, nor is it on any price list - but is a software component,
part of SAP HANA (just like the client) and software component means that it is contained
as an installable unit.
It is something that we can and need to install, not something that you have to enable with
a configuration parameter, or something of that kind.
We also mentioned (here we have the illustration), that cockpit is a system, it is not an app,
as was the case with the previous version, cockpit 1.0 for SAP HANA 1.0 which was an
XS classic application you could just import and activate using HANA studio.
Cockpit 2.0 needs to be installed and, in fact, we can see that here, we will be installing
an SAP HANA, express edition system running XS advanced, and cockpit here means both the
cockpit and cockpit manager web applications as a number of background services that support
all the functionality.
So, where can we download SAP HANA cockpit?
Easy, the SAP software download center.
Just go the support.sap.com and click on Download Software.
This will open the Software Download Center in the SAP One Support Launchpad.
You can also bookmark this location, of course, it is an app.
Now, we could start to navigate by alphabetical index or by category but it is just as easy
just to enter sap hana cockpit as search term.
Hit enter.
Select the category; SAP HANA cockpit 2.0 - maintenance software component
Make sure Linux on Intel is selected (unless you want to install cockpit on an IBM Power
system of course) and then take the latest version.
Today that's SP 04 patch 9 for SAP HANA cockpit 2.0
Select it and add it to the Download Basket.
Small files you can also download directly but cockpit is almost 3 GB, so you might want
to prefer to use the Download Manager.
There is a link on the footer: Install Download Manager
This will bring you back to SAP My Support > Software Downloads and if you scroll down a bit,
you will find a link to the SAP Download Manager.
It is a Java application, so you will need to install Java as well if you don't have it
which you can download from java.com
When you first run the SAP Download Manager, you will be prompted to provide your login information
and typically this will be an S-number.
And if you are working from an office behind a proxy server,
you might need to configure this as well.
Then just start the download.
Next, we need to get our file to the HANA server.
There are several ways how you can do this, of course.
You could, for starters, download directly from the download center to the HANA server
but this might be a bit tricky to setup.
You could upload the file to an AWS S3 bucket of the equivalent for GCP or Azure.
This would make sense if you need to install cockpit multiple times.
Here, I will just upload the file to my HANA server using FTP.
First, check if an FTP server is running on your HANA system.
You can do this with YaST, for example.
I will be using secure FTP here which uses the same port as SSH, port 22.
This way, I don't have to open port 21 for regular FTP.
I am running my HANA server here on Azure, so for regular FTP you would have to add a
rule for TCP 21.
AWS or GCP work the same way.
If your HANA server is running in a corporate data center, you will have to ask your administrator
how you can access it.
Next, you will want to use some FTP client.
Here, I am using Cyberduck for MacOS.
You can use Filezilla as well, also available for Windows.
Works the same way.
Use SSH FTP using the key file.
Then just select the SAP HANA download.
The SAR file, SAP Archive file.
It is a zip file, specific to SAP.
And upload.
This will take some time, 3 GB to upload, couple of minutes at my site.
But eventually, the file will be there.
Let's double check.
SSH into the HANA server.
Substitute user to hxeadm.
Change directory to /hana/shared (at least, that's where I put it) and list contents.
That's it.
In the next video, we will start with installing SAP HANA cockpit.
