Senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump donated $50,000 to Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, to help care for migrant children who have been separated from their parents
According to CBN News, Trump contacted Pastor Jack Graham, who has been at the church for over 30 years
"I've had the opportunity to meet with Trump a number of times over the last year, and I've been struck by her kindness and concern for those in need," Graham told CBN News
Based on their previous encounters, the pastor shared that it wasn't "surprising" when she reached out to help, but added that when he tweeted that his church was going to care for migrant children, he didn't expect to hear from Trump

According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) fact sheet, about 349 minors were separated from their parents and a total of 2,053 minors are being cared for in a facility funded by Health and Human Services (HHS)
Outrage over the policy was heightened after audio was released from one of the facilities of migrant children crying
While Ivanka Trump took heat for not speaking up about the controversial policy of separating children from their parents, the pastor argued that more Americans should be like her
"What if more Americans, whatever their politics, decided to take to heart the needs of others and do what they can to help? Countless lives would be transformed," he told CBN News
He added that he hopes her "generosity" will get Americans "off the sidelines and provide tangible help to those in need
" Newsweek reached out to Graham but did not receive a response in time for publication
Critics of Donald Trump's policy that allowed undocumented immigrant children to be separated from their parents targeted Ivanka Trump, because the first daughter's platform has largely been centered on helping families
"Where is Ivanka in all of this?" The View co-host Meghan McCain asked during a segment on the show
"Because she's all for women and mothers and she has a White House role and a job
" McCain added that it's interesting that she "doesn't have anything to say about this" when her platform is entirely about women and mothers
Last Wednesday, the president signed an executive order ending the practice and offered a different narrative about his daughter
"Ivanka feels very strongly, my wife feels very strongly about it, I feel very strongly about it," President Trump told reporters
"I think anybody with a heart would feel very strongly about it." According to NBC DFW, the first daughter made the donation before the president signed the executive order
While some lauded her for taking action to help others, others chastised her over the organization that she chose to write in the name line of her check
In August, Graham was among the evangelical leaders that signed what became known as the "Nashville Statement," which listed 14 beliefs
USA Today reported that among the list of beliefs was the assertion that it's "sinful" to approve of gay or transgender people
