Garmin Explore: Using the Software to Save Waypoints and Routes - Duration: 3:54.

Garmin Explore is the mobile app for mapping and organizing your outdoor adventures.

In this video, we'll show you how to use the Garmin Explore app for map viewing,

trip planning and cloud storage of your favorite hikes, rides,

trips and adventures for future reference.

Once you've downloaded Garmin Explore to your smartphone or tablet

and paired it with your Garmin GPS handheld or wearable,

you're ready to start accessing the detailed maps

and other outdoor resources provided through Garmin Explore.

We'll assume you've downloaded the maps you want,

and now you're looking at the Garmin Explore map screen on your smartphone.

To start with the basics, let's create some waypoints.

Waypoints are locations that you record and store,

so you can create a route or return to the same spot later.

To mark your current location as a waypoint,

simply tap the Plus sign icon on the upper-left side of the Map page.

This will bring up selectors for Add Waypoint and Add Route.

Tap the Add Waypoint selector and you'll see a New Waypoint page

showing you the GPS coordinates for your location.

You can type in a name for your waypoint and select a graphic symbol to represent it on the map.

There are also on-screen cues that will allow you to edit

and save the waypoint to a new or existing Collection,

so you'll know where to find it if you ever want to return to that spot on future excursions.

Alternatively, if you want to create a waypoint somewhere besides your current location,

you can simply zoom in and tap that location on the map to drop a waypoint there.

Then choose Add New Waypoint from the Selected Location pop-up menu.

A waypoint symbol will appear on the map,

and a New Waypoint page will come up,

showing you the GPS coordinates for that location

and allowing you to select and enter a name and icon symbol for your waypoint.

You can also enter any notes you want to remember about the site.

Now that you've created a waypoint, or multiple waypoints

you can organize them for future reference by tapping Collections,

creating a new listing,

giving it a file name,

and saving it for return trips or to share with others who want to follow in your footsteps.

To revisit or review your Collection entries,

go to the Library icon at the bottom of your screen.

You'll find a section there for your saved Collections.

The Collections list displays the name you've given to the trip,

along with the distance covered and the date.

You can sort the list by any of these criteria to easily locate the saved route

or waypoint you're looking for.

You can also plan for your next journey by creating routes in advance

using multiple waypoints on your app's Map page,

or you can also create them using the Garmin Explore web portal

and then sync them with your mobile app.

If you've paired the Garmin Explore app on your phone

with a compatible Garmin GPS handheld or wearable device,

you can also sync your waypoints, routes,

tracks and activities from the navigation device to your phone,

so you can save,

organize and upload them to cloud storage for future reference.

These will appear on the Library page as well,

allowing you to select and convert items from this page

into organized Collections for future reference.

All the waypoints and routes you've created

will automatically sync to your Garmin Explore website account

when you're within cellular or Wi-Fi range.

So it's easy to keep track of where you've been,

and preserve your activity data with unlimited cloud storage.

Well, that's a quick look at the basics of using Garmin Explore.

Check out the other videos in this series to learn more.

Thanks for watching.

Boosting Software Performance in a Complex Trading Landscape | Intel Software - Duration: 2:32.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Fidessa works in capital markets.

And it feels like every year, there

are more venues that we have to deal with,

more rules, more regulations, and more protocols.

And against this growing complexity in the marketplace,

Fidessa provides a single interface

to trade across the world and across the asset classes.

Performance across this complex trading landscape

is important to our clients because if they

want to execute a trade, they don't

want the market to change.

Determinism is critical in the capital markets.

We tested a server based on the Intel Xeon Gold 6154

Processor against a previous generation of the Intel Xeon

processor.

In one of our core tests, we simulate 10,000 orders

to market and we measure the latency

through the application.

We saw an improvement in performance

across the board with a mean improvement of 18%

in direct market access trades.

We also saw the consistency increase,

with the difference between the fastest

and the slowest improving, and the standard deviation falling

by 16.8%.

Consistency is important to our customers

because they need good performance even when

the markets are busy and there is a lot of selling and buying.

A layer above just accessing the markets,

we have a smart order routing solution

that monitors potentially dozens of markets at a time,

and has to make decisions to send orders out

to those markets in parallel.

The Intel Xeon Gold 6154 Processor

helps us tackle the complexity in the marketplace

because it offers us 18 cores for parallel processing.

Our solution is highly parallel, but it's also

very sensitive to single-thread performance.

And in the Intel Xeon Gold Processor,

we're able to combine those 18 cores

with great single-thread performance.

At this level of performance, the interaction

between the software and the hardware is really important.

We use Intel VTune Amplifier to help identify places

where the software is taking longer,

and that allows us to tune the software for the biggest

performance gains.

We've been working with Intel for more than 10 years.

Intel gives us access to information and products.

Intel engineers help us tune our software on their processors.

And in exchange, we give Intel feedback

about how our software runs on their processors,

especially in the capital markets.

At Fidessa, we spend a lot of time

making our software more performant.

And one of the great things about the Intel Xeon Gold

Processor is that it just makes our software faster.

And that means that our clients can get their orders

into the market faster, and that makes their business better.
