Hi guys

Today, we will assemble the kit version of this WPL C14 Toyota Hilux Crawler.

The kit version comes with a better motor than the ready to run version

and with a standard 3 pin steering servo!

The used receiver / ESC comes from a WLtoys K989 rally car and fits perfectly

The STL data for all 3D printed parts in this video can be found on my Thingiverse page.

I don't like the galvanized frame.

So I decided to paint it in black.

After some sanding and degreasing, we are ready to paint

The next step is to assemble the axles.

They jammed a bit and I had to slightly shorten the joint

The grease for the bushings is included

This is the front axle and you can see the steering dogbones.

The crown gear touches the axle housing,

so we have to remove a bit of the housing

Now its turning nice and free and we can grease and mount the bevel gear.

The next step is to do the same with the rear axle.

Both axles are done

The steering linkages are now installed

Next step: assembling the axle carriers and the shocks

The spring is inside the shock and you can replace it, if you remove the top cover.

The preassembled suspensions can now be attached to the freshly painted frame rails.

Here you can also see the motor, the steering

servo and the central gearbox

Both frame rails are now screwd together and the result is a nice and sturdy frame

The next step is to attach the axle linkages to the frame

The screws, which are used to mount the axle to the carrier are too long

So I 3D printed some spacers and added them below the screw heads

The same procedure is done for both axles

The frame and the suspensions are now finished.

The suspension works fine.

Next step: mounting the central gearbox

The included tires are nice and soft.

So let's mount them.

Now we want to mount the steering servo which came with the kit.

To mount the servo horn, we have to move it

to the center position first.

A servo tester is used to do that.

A servo mounting screw and a grommet, which came with the kit

are used to connect the steering linkage.

But it doesn't really fit good.

So I decided to 3D print my own servo horn.

To keep the servo horn in the right orientation, I filed a flat to the servo shaft.

The grommet and the bushing go into the bore

of the steering linkage

The servo horn is attached to the servo shaft

and to the steering linkage

The entire steering mechanism is now assembled

Time for a test.

The movement is still a bit too much with +/- 45° servo angle

This receiver was left over from my K989 "Micro RC" conversion

I assume it will be perfect for this car.

So let's wire it up and see, what it does!

Looks good!

Thanks to the adjustable throttle duel rate, it's perfect for crawling.

But will it crawl?

Let's test it!

OK

Something is wrong here.

But what?

Yes, the headlight reflectors need some paint!

Look much much better now!

So now we can attach the front grill to the bumper

And then the bumper to the frame.

I think it doesn't look too bad with the paint!

Poor coke can car!

Of course we want black windshield rubber seals

Now the steering servo needs to be attached

So I 3D printed this clamp

It fits perfectly to the servo, which came with the kit.

The next thing to do is to make the battery wiring harness.

The piece on the left came from the K989

This is the test of the battery wiring

Now we want to branch off some 5V wires for the lights.

They are soldered to the servo supply pins of the receiver

This slot is required for the wires

Of course a crawler needs a waterproof receiver.

So it is conformal coated.

The coated receiver is now ready for reassembling

And now it's ready to be mounted in the car

A 100nF ceramic noise suppression capacitor is soldered across the motor terminals

The receiver is then attached to the servo clamp and the motor wiring is finished

This is the finished motor wiring

Next step: routing and securing the battery wiring.

The engine was not inserted deep enough in the gearbox

and the result was a grinding noise

Removing a bit of the housing allows to push it in deep enough for a proper gear mesh

To prevent it from sliding out again, it's secured with super glue

Now we are ready to mount the bed on the frame

To make some room for the wiring, we have to Dremel two slots in the front cover

Here you can see, why the slots are required

Of course we also want working rooftop lights

All 4 LED are wired in parallel

The next step is to solder the wires and to protect them with shrink tube

Again a slot is required to route the wires

Finally, the wiring is secured with zipties

Next: painting the LED wires in black

Of course, this window rubber gasket also needs to be black

The entire rear wall can now be attached to the bed

A small hole is required to route the LED wires

The DIYGuy999 Junior is now finishing the body

Of course we also want working headlights!

So let's prepare a 5V distributor board

Fits nicely on existing mounting posts

The 5V supply wires are now attached

Nice working rooftop lights!

They are wired with a 100 Ohm series resistor

Next: soldering wires to the headlight LED and protect them with heatshrink

The LED are then secured with super glue

The wire ends are now stripped and soldered to the distributor board.

The series resistor value is 220 Ohms

Of course, the distributor board also needs to be waterproof

Here you can see the details of the 5V distributor board

The electronics are now finished and we are ready to mount the cover

The cover is secured with two screws

These headlights are really nice looking!

Time to mount the body!

It is attached with a total of 6 screws.

That's it.

Doesn't look bad at all!

I was not entirely happy with the steering.

So I decided to design and 3D print a new, shorter servo arm and a new, longer steering linkage

The new parts allow a symmetrical steering angle

Finally I glued the bevel gear shaft bushing

and shortened the rear prop shaft about 1mm

Now we are ready for the first real outdoor test drive!

Let's plug in the LiPo battery!

Will it explode?

Yes, it's a crawler, this is top speed!

So, it should have off road capabilities, right?

Thanks to the waterproofed electronics, water is no problem.

But will it like snow?

Wow, this is really respectable for a 1:16 scale!

I hope, this little tutorial was helpful for you

The K989 receiver seems to be the perfect choice and makes this build really easy!

2018 Toyota C HR SUV Crossover Comfort and Quality Review - Duration: 3:04.

While the 2018 Toyota C-HR looks like a small car, it's not so petite inside.

Constructed on a shortened versions of the underpinnings be useful for mid-size cars,

the room is wide-cut and surprisingly roomy front and back .

Up front, occupants sit lower than you'd expect in this "high-riding" auto, and the front

seats are delicately bolstered and comfy, though the lower cushions may feel short to

longer-legged equestrians.

The high posture gives spate of brain area even for those over 6 hoofs tall .

We rate the C-HR at 5 points out of 10; the object it incomes for having a capacious interior

is offset by one docked for the lack of cargo room in a auto that Toyota insists on presenting

as a stylish crossover utility vehicle.

In contrast to the front, that posture tells rear passengers sit high, scaping the knees-up

post of some smaller hatchbacks with bench cushions close to the flooring.

Toyota has scooped out the backs of the front seats and invoked them off the flooring, rendering

spate of" shoe area ," as they say.

There's rear brain area for 6-footers, very, making this one small hatchback where three

adults might actually fit into the rear bench for more than 5-minute emergency trip-ups

.

The C-HR has a conventional shifter, but it still has spate of storage bins, cupholders,

and trays.

The rear benches turn and fold along a 60/40 separate to create a flat onu floor--which

isn't always the case in this segment.

The cargo deck is amazingly high to load, at mid-thigh level, though, and its 19 cubic

hoofs of cargo publication with the rear seat up is only average.

It's 32.4 cubic hoofs with the rear bench folded flat, less than other front-wheel-drive

hatchbacks and even some actual crossover utility vehicles.

We'd hazard a guess that's because there's area standing under the C-HR's flooring for

the all-wheel-drive hardware that's not offered in the U.S .

The quality of information materials was about median for a small auto; thin soft-touch surfaces

are used where passengers may touch it, but spate of hard-plastic surfaces continue, numerous

accented with diamond layouts.

The all-black interior doesn't feel specially upmarket, and is alleviated by only a small

amount of silver-tongued decorate.

One dissonant memo was the cheapness of a flimsy cargo extend made of pitch-black nylon

textile rather than vinyl .

2018 Toyota C HR SUV Car Styling Review - Duration: 4:05.

By far the most noticeable and distinctive feature of the 2018 Toyota C-HR is its exterior

intend, one of the most adventurous ever to emerge from the republican Japanese maker.

If you thought the Nissan Juke took a while to digest, the C-HR will have you analyzing

its nonstop collection of curves, fissures, upkicks, and pinnacles for daylights .

The name, Toyota says, expressed support for" Coupe, High Riding ," and while Toyota may

call it a crossover, it's a five-door hatchback with expressive styling that hides the rear

opening treats in the rear pillars( they labor fine ), use a rising window direction to imitate

a two-door coupe.

It's also a much greater auto than it seems, practically a shortened mid-size vehicle that's

significantly wider and taller than the subcompact Yaris in the same showroom .

The C-HR's shape will pull your eyes from one slant or curve to another.

Every occasion they come to rest, you'll be distracted by some other intend flourish.

Animal-like jowl and cat-eye lamps flow into fenders that wrap themselves tightly around

its wheel shafts.

The sills and side stampings impress a deep skeletal shape into the sideview.

The roofline descents and the rear pillar switches up--and they meet at the rear opening

treats.

The taillights bracket a tall rear end, where the three-quarter belief of the C-HR switches

thick and emphasizes its high-riding posture, moving high standards 18 -inch rotates seem

small despite all the accents "ve been meaning to" confuse your seeing .

In the end, though, we conclude the C-HR has something that will intrigue us for years.

It's a far more successful speech of the Toyota design language first used in the Mirai fuel-cell

sedan and the most recent Prius hybrid hatchback.

Neither of those vehicles has an exterior that's quite resolved, but the C-HR is all

of a piece--and has no glaring feature like the Juke's bug-eye front lightings.

The intend is still likely to be polarizing, but it may well succeed with the younger customers

Toyota searches .

Functional cockpit, with diamonds

Inside, the C-HR has one of the better cockpits among the variety of small hatchbacks and

crossovers.

Toyota cloyingly calls the center husk of controls the MeZone; let's just agree that

it's a stylish, unconventionally molded laid of substitutions, grip, and touchscreen restrains

that's attractive and far away from derivative.

The C-HR's 7.0 -inch display screen sits on the dash like the screens in other small vehicles,

but it's better integrated, and the surround restrains complement it well .

Diamond motifs are a intend topic not only on the exterior but also inside the hut, with

a grid of diamonds molded into hard-plastic lower opening panels and even into the headliner.

It adds visual attention and doesn't interfere with any restrains.

We wish the were available in complexions other than all-black( with a few silver-tongued

accents ), but we'll defer to Toyota's suggestion that it's what the specific objectives customers

are comfy with .

In the end, we give the C-HR 7 points out of 10 for styling.

The interior working for you, and the adventurous exterior lastly would point out that Toyota's

new design language can create a stunning and distinctive intend without the kinds of

jaw-dropping clashes found on the Mirai and Prius.

Not everybody is like the result, but we didn't dislike it on first sight and it developed

on us significantly during our time with the test vehicles.
