Family Reboot Post-Divorce On Morningbreak Sodoma Law Rock Hill SC - Duration: 2:30.
this week on Morning Break we're talking about lifestyle changes in 2018
and this morning we're helping you with a family reboot especially when it comes
to managing two households after a divorce Nicole Sonoma is here
from Sonoma Law good morning good morning so you talked to a lot of the
clients that you've worked with and really you came up with three of the big
issues that families deal with post-divorce right right so when we talk
about merging families it's just so great I love that you guys are
doing a family reboot I went back and I survey to handful of my clients and I
said okay looking back on your journey what would you do different what what is
it that that you would have done for your family whether they're merging
families or or now with your new family dynamic overwhelmingly there the
response was how we interpret the order how we interpret the parenting agreement
because they're not one size fits all and they're they can be really specific
or they could be really vague so that was overwhelmingly the first response
that I got from everyone and interpreting that I mean does it help to
sit down with somebody and really lay out specifically piece by piece what the
co-parenting agreement means well you know when we're yes but you know you
think about it from a merging family perspective after you divorce and you've
got to parenting agreements when you go on your date with with who ends up being
you're a new family a new merged family you don't say can I see your parenting
agreement right can we make sure our custody schedules match so planning out holidays looking at the parenting schedule for a
merging family perspective it is really important and it helps in the long run
aside from interpreting the provisions inside the agreements most couples
you've dealt with though Nicole do you find that they are amicable or are they
that's a trick question well but for the most part it really depends it depends
you know one of my clients one of the one of the my favorite things that they
said was he said I knew it would be emotional but I wasn't expecting the
emotional endurance I didn't know that I would have to have that emotional
endurance and be thinking so long-term so part of what your family law attorney
should be able to do for you if you choose to hire counsel is you have to
think in the moment but you also have to be thinking about the next chapter a
year from now two years from now what it looks like when you merge families so
I'm sorry and really quickly what are the some of the consequences if
one party does not fulfill that agreement
well if well it depends on the the format of the agreement from a legal
perspective if it's an out-of-court agreement or if it's actually a court
order there are going to be consequences likely depending on the way the order
