My name is Eugene Nadyrshin, I am the CEO and Co-founder of Plexus, and we make
high-performance gloves for augmented and virtual reality.
Plexus platform allows for very high precision tracking of the fingers. We have 21 degrees of
freedom, so you can do tactile feedback. So each fingertip as a feedback motor
similar to the one that Oculus Touch has, and as you come into contact with
virtual objects, you actually feel them, so you can know exactly where the eye can
manipulate things like you would in the real world. Computer design is something
that you can imagine that how great it can be with you being able to use
your hands to design things. We have the capacity to do that. We have focused on
the hardware in lieu of the software, but we had computer-aided design
programmers that have come to us, like, "Hey, we want to integrate into our
packages," which is great because we're using the software factories develop our
gloves, and now we have CAD designers actually looking to use our gloves and
to develop other products, which is amazing.
The reason that haptics isn't as big as it could be right now is because it's
been price-prohibitive for quite a while. You can pay anything upwards of
$2,000 for a set of gloves. We're looking to change it completely, and be coming
out with a develop a kit for $249, and that's for a pair of gloves with SDKs for Unreal and Unity.
One of the big uses for our technology
is in the med-tech field, so surgical training is very big one, and their precision
is really important, so being able to precisely control a tool, being able to, let's say,
have a scalpel, hold a scalpel while making an incision, it's really important to have
that precision in the your finger tracking. And we can actually offer that, so
instead of using controllers, which would be not natural for something that's used
to holding a scalpel, we can really make the whole experience immersive,
allowing our clients to train the surgeons, and without the need for
expensive cadaver operations, but also without having a need for physical set of tools.
It's a first entry into training for them it's a really good way of getting the experience.
